| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/23/2005 7:33:52 PM | | I'd have to say men, the child bearing part aside. I was listening to the radio, and they were saying that the women who have been in combat in Iraq are much worse off than the men who have been it. | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 5:14:43 AM | Some women might be physically as strong as as some men. That is, if the woman gets lots of strength building execise and the man is a wuss then it's possible.
Give me a very feminine, soft and curvy woman who smiles when I call her darlin' in my semisouthern drawl and I'll move a mountain for her anyday. That's the real strength of a woman and I like it that way- darlin'

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 6:18:43 AM | | Basic biology 101 - Naturally a man has more physical strength than a woman simply because of the way the body develops. A woman has a higher pain threshold which is observed during difficult physical ordeals like the menstrual cycle and childbirth. | |

Welcome to Jersey. I see you landed in Passaic.
Did anyone give you the scoop on that town before you moved there? Just curious.

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 9:41:26 AM | | Yes, women are stronger. As for earlier comments about carrying an a/c and such. I do all that myself thank you very much. I think some of it just depends on the man and the woman being talked about. I think women are stronger physically. We're able to bear more pain than men also. Have you ever seen a sick man? Pitiful. Although really cute too. *L* Just my opinion... | |

However, on a whole men are physically stronger, but women can endure more pain for longer periods then most men. This is just built into their system as a female...prime example is giving birth, or even PMS.
Emotionally, most men are stronger. We all need love and affection, however women desire and even crave it more. Just the chemistry difference between man and women.
As for mentally. I would have to give it to women. Women are more cunning, and devious when they want to be.
Have men fight in combat, and have women decide who to fight I say!!! Less wars, but more wars fought more tactically and more aggressivly when needed.
Im all for women having equal rights....as it should be. However there will always be the issue of women in combat being captured and the possability of rape. I know it can happen to a man as well...but we all now if it happens to a woman....there is more attention and people are angred more then if it happens to a man.
Just a perspective, not definitive answers.

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 10:04:14 AM | There is no doubt that there are some physically strong women. However we are talking more of as a whole. It is physically easier for a men to become physically stronger then a woman usually, just due to our gender makeup. As Rick stated, Men have larger and thicker bones then women. Our bones are made to endure more physical shock trauma then a womans, as is our muscle mass. However, women are sleaker, more narrow bones and muscles...made to withstand pain and physically stress for longer periods.
Now this all relative according to the man and woman you are comparing. However on a wide target area women as a whole (I think) are physically weaker, but made to endure pain for longer periods. Women are mentally stronger, but emotionally weaker.
These are generalizations....but they do have some factual base to them.
We all have strengths and weaknesses....nothing is black and white. However understanding that some generalizations are correct, and that individualality is what is important in comparing men and women, makes it easier to understand the differences.

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 10:29:50 AM | The short answer is men have the upper-body advantage, and women the lower....
I remember one instance where me and a lover were roleplaying forceful sex. If I really really tried, I could get her legs apart using leverage and all my upper-body strength. However the instant I let up to try and get between her legs, snap, back shut they went. I got so tired from trying over and over I finally had to ask her not to try so hard. Most men don't want to accept that fact that your average woman is more intelligent than a man. Ever heard the saying that the body can adjust for a lost sense by enhancing others? The same is true for the sexes really. Women live everyday in a world where men are more violent and stronger (at least in upperbody). While many fathers encourage physical development in their sons as the way to make their place in the world, many mothers teach their daughters to sharpen their mental skills: observational, manipulative, charismatic and perceptional. This has been going on for generations and generations. Women have survived, quietly and sucessfully, in environments that men would find intolerable.
As a general rule, and it has served me well, I assume that a woman is more intelligent than I am. It keeps me sharp and on my toes. Women can get overconfidant just as easily as a man...

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 12:24:13 PM | Know women stronger than most men, know men weaker than most women. In terms of the issue of "mental" toughness the same certainly applies, but forgive the humor here from "As Good As It Gets": "So how do you write women so well." "I think of men and throw out accountability and reason!" | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/28/2005 12:38:26 PM | LOL Im enough of a pig to love that line as well.... "I picture a man.... and I take away reason and accountability"

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 3/29/2005 6:08:20 AM | technically... it's mostly women that suck. Sorry, couldn't help myself. But no.... women and men both have there own strengths and weaknesses... it also depends on the individual in question. | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 9:14:38 AM | | Its all relative really. But generally men are stronger. However, I knew a little guy who was weaker than most women( Very small boned and could never get his benchpress beyond the 45 lb only). And know of a few women who probably stronger than most men. I remember a female prison guard I knew who worked at a male facility. She was built like a tank. A force to be reckoned with and stronger than most men Im sure. | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 10:52:27 AM | It would be interesting to compare to people of different genders, but with the same height/weight or as close as possible... Then put them both through 6 months of identical physical training and see who came out strongest.... Otherwise, comparing a 6' 250lbs guy to a 5' 120lbs lady is just not going to be fair... | |

The average man is "stronger" but martial arts can take care of - neutralise that strength.
