| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 11:13:49 AM | | This is an idiotic question, and I don't know why it has resurfaced. If you don't know the answer, you should go back to kindergarten. | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 4:27:06 PM | All depends on the level you are talking about... Sure Women have the Babies, but who do they call to Lift the Air Conditionor out of the Window and carry it to the Basement??? Who do they call to move the Washer because something fell behind it??? Who do they call to move the Furniture around the living room??? Of course I could go on, but I think you get the point...
I didn't move the washer because something fell behind it, I moved the washer (and dryer) down one flight of stairs (long flight), out the door of our condo, across the yard and into a condo across from the one we were in, back up the other flight of stairs, and into the washer/dryer area, and hooked them up. And that was WITHOUT a hand truck, even! What's more, I know how to separate clothes correctly and what temperature water to use too. So neener neener.
That was a long time ago...
FF to present day...
I've been working on landscaping my yard for the last four years...I've dug holds deep enough to plant trees, and planted them, built gardens, built a pond enclosure with landscape timbers and filled with with 3 tons of dirt at 50 # a piece, put in bags of rock on a hillside to the tune of 40# piece, got rock from my neighbor's landfill where he's making his backyard level -- one excruciatingly heavy wheelbarrow full at a time, and built a flat stone path ...some of the rocks in there weigh, I know, at least 100, 150 #, tilled and dug up plants, trees, bushes, and weeds; dug, planted and care for probably a hundred different plants, cut up and burned timber and logs from old trees and stuff, etc., etc., and did all this in spite of being highly allergic to poison ivy and getting it every year, sometimes quite severely.
Today, I moved around bedroom furniture and took apart and reassembled a king-size four-poster bed all by myself, moved a heavy dresser and a heavy chest, filled with stuff.
And I did all that in spite of having two degenerated disks in my lower back. I've never relied on a man to do ANYTHING for me...very rarely, if I find I simply cannot do it by myself, I'll ask my neighbor. But found out long ago you can't depend on men to do jack, and if I had to wait for them to do it, it just wasn't going to get done. Ever heard the expression, "If you want something done you've got to do it yourself?"
Don't even get me started on the time I had to cut the Christmas tree trunk with a steak knife.
Of course, I could go on, but I think you get the point...

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 5:02:53 PM | This is a rediculous question. Of course men are stronger than women. It's called testosterone and men have higher levels than women. Having said that, I work out with 2 meatheads at the gym and I can beat them on almost all lower-body exersizes. That's only because I work those muscle groups more than they do. If they worked those groups more, they'd bust me on those too. Upper body? Sheeeet. They got me hands down. I bench about 1/4th of what they can bench.
Not being in a relationship, I can physically do all that I'd normally ask a man for help in. I'll change my own tires, move furniture and open my own pickle jars!
If a man was around, I'd let or ask him for help. There's something really sexy about "needing" a man to do it for me. (I'd never tell them that I could do it myself! Men are so awesome when they're being macho guys!)

obviously you have never seen chyna from wwe The question wasn't 'is every man on the entire planet stronger than any woman'. There are some tiny weak men, and some big strong women, but they are the rare exceptions; if you don't know that, maybe you should try to develop your powers of observation a bit more. But the strongest people on the planet are all men, and I'm guessing that most men can easily 'lift' about twice what the average woman can. Our bodies have evolved over time to be best for certain things: Women, for having and caring for children. Men, for hunting and killing things. Men don't need extra fat stores or lactating breasts, women don't need to be able to lift more than a toddler weighs. Although the world has changed a lot, those two things haven't.
As far as pain tolerance, and the whole 'having babies' argument is concerned, have another thought about soldiers who are severely injured in war, yet continue to hold their ground and fight, sometimes without limbs, eyes, and more. There will always be wimps of both sexes, but in general, men are taught not to show pain, while women will openly feel allowed to complain about it, and oh boy, do they. Over the years I've seen several men walk into the hospital with broken legs; I've never seen a woman do it; doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that I've never seen it. I've also never seen a man complain about pain from having their blood pressure taken, but I've sure seen a lot of women scream and insist that it hurts them too much to have the cuff inflate. What do you think that indicates as far as pain tolerance is concerned?

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 7:37:03 PM | | Women are built to carry babies around for nine months. They have naturally stronger legs. | |
|
| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 9:10:23 PM | As a fighter I've found in sparring with men they are a lot stronger than women, at least with their punches anyway. Even guys that are smaller than me are stronger (I don't think it's fair).
How many women can do pull ups compared to guys? That ought to tell you something.
|
| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/7/2008 10:36:31 PM | | Men are definatly stronger, they just have naturally more muscle mass. I can't believe someone actually posted woman are stronger physically. Obviously a woman could be stronger if she worked out a lot or had really good genes physically. But comparing an average man and woman the guy is going to be stronger. I believe woman and men are much closer to being equal in lower body but I still think men have more muscle in that area as well. | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/20/2008 9:39:20 AM | | What a stupid question....why do you think women are segragated in sports, its so they wont get hurt... | |
|
| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 8/20/2008 10:07:04 AM | Men appear to be physically stronger...but women have always been stronger than men...No, I'm not kissing ass or anything, it's just a fact of life and nature...
A woman has babies....a man having a baby would kill a man...
A woman's orgasm is so powerful that if a man had an orgasm equal to it, it would kill him...and that ain't BS either.
just a cold hard fact of life...woman are stronger...but WE get kicked in the balls.....think about that for a second.

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 9/6/2008 6:42:38 PM | | LOL Boy vs girl Men are stronger physically (I've been able to lift more then women who were bigger then me) that's a given As for "pain tolerance" I tdon't think there has been any studies done on that. | |

Physical strength is not the same as pain tolerance.
We will never know if a man having a baby will kill him because it'll never happen.
How do you know a woman's orgasm would kill a man? Judging from all the prostate threads going around it seems men have STRONGER orgasms than women have.
Getting kicked in the balls will do nothing for many men. Many men could get kicked a few times and feel no pain while other men could go into shock. So it varies.

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 9/13/2008 10:45:22 AM | Well, at the risk of upsetting my fellow sisterhood, I dare say men. However, I am referring to outer physical strength. Yet inner strength, because we can endure birthing babies, hands down belongs to us ladies. But, I don't have a man in my life right now, so if the stove needs to be moved, or the driveway needs to be shoveled, or if furniture needs to be moved, etc...it is ME who does it. Even though I am a lady, I am working on getting pretty darn close to being able to arm wrestle any guy | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 9/13/2008 1:15:09 PM | | jimi77.......just how many children have you given birth to????? they dont call it LABOR for nothing! and your right about the pain, men could handle it! | |

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 9/13/2008 1:45:11 PM | Using my old job as an example i will have to say no.
I used to be a Combat Engineer in the armed forces , and until very recently females were not allowed to be employed in that role in the military. This was not a case of sexual inequality or other such sinister thinking, but a pure military decision.......quite simply, combat engineering is one of the most physically demanding jobs that a modern army can do. Extreme physical effort, huge stamina demands and working in climatic conditions that other people are not even exposed to and the uncomfortable understanding that you literally lived/slept/washed/toileted within a few feet of everyone else , meant that few individuals could meet the required standards at the best of times.
One occasion i was teamed up with a female Sapper ( rank of an Engineer private ) in a house clearing team....( search and clear the house of bad guys ). I only stand 5 foot 7 inches, but at the time i weighed about 240 lbs naked......so you can add at least another 80 lbs on top of that for body armour and equipment( 320lbs ). The young lady weighed no more than 170 lbs with all her equipment on........It turned out to be a very, very long day.....she did not have the brute strength to kick in doors or sledgehammer them, and seriously struggled to finish the day in one piece.
Yes....it is an extreme situation but she was classed as exceptionally fit to reach this point, and even though the ladies were payed the same....they always struggled without exception and often passed their share of the burden to their male teammates.
Outside of that environment there are some outstandingly fit women, but pound for pound an identically trained male is very much stronger.......it goes back to the woolly mammoth/ cave man hunting days.

| Are women as strong as men? Posted: 9/13/2008 1:45:59 PM | | Pain tolerance is directly related to the amount of pain one has suffered. Women who have had children, especially natural childbirth, tend to have higher than average pain tolerance. Women who havent, don't. There are men, that have experienced high levels of pain, that also have very high pain tolerance. | |
