| AMD or Intel Whats Your choice people! Posted: 10/27/2006 3:09:32 PM | | I've had some experience with them, but not in a mission critical environment. I will say they have great stability with all of my standard tests. It's a really hard choice, even though they have the potential to be unstable, I might go with the woodcrest just because of the performance gains. Is it going to be in a datacenter or just a server closet? | |

LOL... well I did manage in the past 2 years to secure it (it didn't even have a lock), install air conditioning and climate control. My next step is for fire prevention, but haven't hit the powers that be for the $$$ to make that happen.

They're fine under broomcloset conditions. Have you got the other bells and whistles in the broomcloset like raised flooring? I know that's what I really want to do with my broom closet right now.
Heh, you know what I'd do if I want me server to be super stable in a broom closet? I'd build a chillbox(if you don't what one is, don't be afraid to ask) for it. That's pretty much guaranteed stable and all for under $100.

Trying to stick 2 things into the same space ends is like those houses that share a wall. They're a good idea to save money and space, but bad idea for independence (eg. One side may be too noisy for the other) and thus one or both suffer and don't end up having as good of quality of life as they could if they lived in completely seperate houses.

But generally I have tended to go with Intel in the past, my Laptop the only AMD I ever had, never a CPU related problem with it.

| AMD or Intel Whats Your choice people! Posted: 11/4/2006 12:03:44 PM | For the processors, I like them both depending on the situation. I have liked AMD more in the past though. I am currently running on a pair of Athlon MP 1.9's... Ohhhhhh yeah... :) As for the future of my selections, it is starting to get to the point of who is providing better driver support for the majority of their products. Intel has chipsets for just about everything out there, and has not really had a stellar driver record in the past. AMD is in a smaller, but similar boat. And ATI drivers are a joke half the time. The other half, they are a joke if you try to install in a *nix environment... So either way, you lose... Bah.. I choose none of the above right now... Get yourself a cheapo Via C3. :) (Joking...) | |

Posted: 11/4/2006 6:22:39 PM | I'll always go with the better bang for the dollar, up until a few months ago it has always been AMD but Intels new conroe (Core 2) chips are jsut raping the competition. The E6600 right now would be my choice if I were to buy, for less then half the price of an AMD FX-62 you get a better performer in almost all programs you would ever run. Also jsut a couple days ago intel released the worlds first quad core cpu (Core 2 Quad).
Recomended artice reads: Conroe:
