| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 4/19/2008 4:13:28 PM | I agree that one can't truley be impartail at all. If you have a T.V. then chances are you have seen and may have already formed an opinion about any give situation.
Being this is the vary first time that I have been contacted for this process, I am at the very begining of said process. (The selection.) And being that I only work selective part-time and rely on Disability Pension for to servive (due to health reasons) I will have the time to partake in this process. And the possibility of making that extra $500 per month that is allowed on Disability.
Plus, haveing used Transit for 90% of the last 9 years, am able to do that with no issues whatsoever.

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 4/19/2008 4:32:04 PM | I've never been called upon for this process, and unfortunately, if I was, I wouldn't want to based on the money. I just wouldn't want to lose out on my pay. However, Spud, if you have health issues, which may cause you to take even 1 day off during a trial, you really do need to be honest about this. Not being able to go due to illness would have a big effect on everyone there. Would that be fair? And personally, if I was able to be part of a jury, I'd want to do it for the sake of justice, not for the money. Just my opinion. | |

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 4/19/2008 11:40:40 PM | Lookin4luvandlaughter...................Yes, that will be taken into consideration. However, considering I haven't been ill enough to be hospitalized for a year now, and there being no sign of that kind of stuff happening, if picked..........I know that I have, and will have what it takes to fullfill that duty.
But as was pointed out at the begining of reviving this thread, this is a process and I'm only being considered for this, I haven't been picked as of yet. But if that happens, I feel that the biggest issue will be for them to accomodate the wheelchair, not my health issues.

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 4/20/2008 1:13:30 PM | Yeah, I'd probably go just to help prevent a possible future of judges-only, politically-motivated bias within modern-day soicialist Star Chambers.
Mind you, Ernst Zundel would argue that such a Kangaroo-Canadian future is here already...

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 4/20/2008 6:29:44 PM | | yes it will cause financial loss, also depending on the crime it could be very dangerous also. A friend simply said that she had a health concern, she was immediately excused from jury duty without any further questions. Good luck. | |

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 5/4/2008 12:31:39 PM | We do not want juries solely composed of retirees, welfare folks and the independently wealthy, BUT we set the compensation for jury duty at a pathetic level that doesn't even cover lunch.
Tough one - a saw-off of Duty vs Hardship. Lucky me has never been called up :-)

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 5/4/2008 1:06:57 PM | Actually one jury selection I was at only wanted a senior...and from the looks of it...preference was given to Older White Males...lol.

At one selection I was at a tall, big...older white gent got to the selection....when asked why he should be exempt he started to shout so everyone could hear him. "I know this guy is guilty, so what is the point of all of this?...are you telling me with all these witnesses and experts and police officers that you have ready to testify that you can't see this guy is guility!"
HOLY MOLY!!!!!!!!!!! the judge was pissed off!...this guy was a retired police officer. The Judge was ready to toss him out...told him to leave NOW!... and don't cross paths ever again! --- now that was entertainment foresure! .....oh...btw ...they don't want you if you are a Nurse...they will take a doctor...but they know there is a critical shortages of nurses....lol....so...say you are a Nurse or a Nurse Trainee or something if you want out.

| Jury Duty...Jump in or avoid like the plague???? Posted: 5/5/2008 1:19:25 PM | | I was called for jury duty when I was 19 yrs old ... young, naive, never ever been in a courtroom before so I panicked & called Dad who got me out of it. I've never been called since, but with my fascination for forensics, medical drama & criminal investigations, I would love to do it, but my analytical mind would have a hard time shutting up & not trying to play the part of the attorney. However, if doing jury duty would cause me to be tossed out of house & home for not being to pay my bills or feed my family, I would decline for practical reasons. | |
