What browser do you use?

^^^ Win98se ... nothing else running in the background whatsoever. Played around with that for a while too, see if anything else might be the cause of it.

Also, IM locks up, then looks for 'Quicktime', which I also have installed, but doesn't seem to able to launch it, for rather obvious Reasons we already know ... lol.

Then FIREFOX freezes.

Probably an Add-on, Codec, Plug-in missing somewheres ... ie. 'Macromedia Flash'. No other application I have seems to need a seperate install of it except what 'Windows Update' Site dumps to my machine. Besides, just installed 'Flash' directly off the Vendor's Site a few days ago after a Disk Clearing.

Don't matter to me really, way too many other things wrong with it too.

IE runs fine ... so nothing to resolve, was just testing it anyways. Biggest difference is the speed, IE is way faster & smoother.

Next version they come out with, I'll give it another go.

3. Display less pleasing than IE.

you can download themes :)

5. No complete full Screen View.

hit 'F11' (unless you mean it leaves that 10 or so pixel command bar at the top... but it's small and hardly noticable :P

8. Browser refresh every 4- 5 seconds interfereing with commands.

you can set how long you want it to wait till it refreshes

as for the other issues, i haven't experienced those problems, no need for the back and forth buttons if you are using mouse commands instead of the buttons :) my FF runs smooth and fast. i love FF because of the tabbed browsing and it isn't embedded into the freakin OS like IE. i guess for some people IE runs better but for most FF runs better. guess it depends on how you have your computer set up.

Firefox .03, newest version, love it, especially the tabs, I like the 'clean' look it has, nothing pretentious, functional.

oh and with some custom settings you can make it up to 3 times faster.

IE, no hanging/crashing, no popups, no worrying about viruses or spyware since I actually know what security settings to use. Im also a programmer and need to use a browser control in some programs, so its good that IE is on every computer thatll run my programs

I used FF when I tore out IE. Then I gave up on M$ and now use Galeon! I absolutely love it; There are sooooo many options. Occasionally I use Mozilla or Konqueror, but I still prefer Galeon.

Firefox on Linux. I tried Linux because I kept reading about it and figured I should give it a whirl. Let's just say I haven't had to reboot since I dipped my toes in the water (about a year ago) and I get a little sadistic pleasure to know my computer, while not totally impervious, can't be swept up in anything like that of the homogeneous IE/Win environment.

I tried Firefox and I know that it's an excellent browser, but it acted up a lot for me. I think it was because I have windows ME (shudup shudup shudup already...I know ME sucks. LOL). I am hoping to get a new computer soon and have a nice little disc with Windows XP office on it, so when I get that up and running, I'll probably try the firefox again.

I usually use Firefox, but sometimes I use IE if I'm responding to something using Webmail
I tried Opera a few times, but then I didn't bother downloading it again after I lost my license info.

So you've heard about these two big holes found in Firefox recently? BBC Oline Tech. news ran a story on it. Lucky there have been no exploits yet, but it's a bit embarrasing given that it's touted as more secure than IE.

A heavily modified variant of Firefox, which allows for stealth mode browsing, so that I can visit sites without them knowing I am there. You have no idea how much crap that cuts down. I haven't seen spyware near this system since I switched to Firefox, except for running the last of the non-essential updates to get XP up and running quicker. Now I can cruise through government sites without my defences getting knocked down for a look at me. If you can stealth you browser AND Firewall, you become a ghost. Forefox allows stealthing, although you can stealth Mozilla Suite too, but it is like driving a semi-trailer where Firefox is a slick sports car, you know? Firefox also allows you to have a lot of fun stuffing around with all those add-ons, and Thunderbird or Pegasus for Email client. Both are free, both rock. Thunderbird definitely offers more features, although Pegasus would probably get the nod for security.

Firefox at work, Safari and Firefox at home. Safari has got to win for my all time favorite simply because it has the usual pop up blockers and tabbed browsing, plus it also has a built in spell checker, dictionary and thesaurus.

Just_a_dude, "So you've heard about these two big holes found in Firefox recently?"

Version 1.0.4 came out a couple of days ago, before any "embarrasing" attacks ever took place.

IE suffered from unpatched security holes for 359 days in 2004. According to Scanit, there were only 7 days out of 366 in 2004 during which IE had no unpatched security holes. This means IE had no official patch available against well-publicized vulnerabilities for 98% of the year.

Attacks on IE weaknesses circulated "in the wild" for 200 of those days. Scanit records the first sighting of actual working hacker code on the Internet. In this way, the firm was able to determine how many days an IE user was exposed to possible harm. When Microsoft released a patch for an IE problem, Scanit "stopped the clock" on the period of vulnerability.

Mozilla and Firefox patched all vulnerabilities before hacker code circulated.

Another security firm that tracks security holes in IE, Firefox, and many other applications is Secunia, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. As of today, Secunia reports that there are still 19 unpatched security flaws in IE, the most severe of which is rated "highly critical." Firefox has only 4 unpatched flaws, all of which are rated "less critical" or "not critical," the lowest severity rating.

As I remember Firefox was a Linux beast as is Mozilla. They were ported over to Windoze due to demand but because the Evil Empire's software is buggy and loaded with extraneous garbage they don't work as they should.

I date back to the era of punchcards and Tandy machines from Radio Shack, using Morse Code on the 20metre band and slide rules instead of pocket calculators. This all changed radically within a year of my 15th birthday and it continues today with my discovery of a Linux tablet that's comparable to a Sony Viao for less than $500.
