| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/13/2005 5:02:08 PM | I suppose Firefox is an Ok backup browser, as is many of the other's out there. Its is a limited tool for me too.
If I end up heading off someplace where security issues my be involved, I will use it from time to time.
Its probably more secure than IE, but far too limited at this time.

Quicktime won't run on Win9x Systems. Neither 6.02, 6.5 or 7.0 ...
Firefox crashes after installing Add-on and Plug-ins under W9x.
PDF Plug-ins conflicts crash on Adobe Acrobat Files v3.0 and earlier.
Instant Messenger Video is sticky. Poor Graphic display.
Occasional Kernel32.dll error. (requires a reboot)
I am sure I could waste some Time to debug.
Need IE for many Online Financial Transactions. Some Security Features are coded for IE and some high Security Sites cannot be accessed without it.
Have more important Things to do than worry about than other Browsers when the one I am using works perfectly OK.
IE runs just fine and dandy. Versions prior to 1.05 were extremely sticky, 'Smooth Scrolling" or not. 1.06 a little better, but not much.

| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/17/2005 9:13:35 PM | I've lately got the new netscape, It seems faster than IE.
I bet it wont be long before microsoft comes up with something newer and faster though.

I have actually never had a problem with firefox in over a year.

| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/18/2005 1:54:28 PM | Firefox. I use IE for some things. I heard there was a way to tamper with firefox so that if "fooled" sites into thinking it was IE but so far a procedure for doing this with the version I am using has not been demonstrated to me.
Where do I get Opera? Is it free?\
Sugarpiehunnybunch, you might want to start thinking about getting a back up browser to avoid collecting spy-bots on your computer that run in resident memory. Although if you insist on using IE for a browser it helps to have the yahoo tool bar on there that comes with yahoo instant messenger because it does a good job of catching pop-ups. After using Firefox for just a few months I have learned to loathe IE.

| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/18/2005 3:07:35 PM | Opera's website
do a google search on it, just type Opera's website and google will pull it up. I forgot what the name of the site is so this is the next best thing.
FireFox is what I use. It blows IE away. The only problem I have with firefox is that you have to code the java plugin. Other then that FireFox is getting better with each version.

It is free but there is a banner ad in the top right corner unless you buy it.
Now this banner ad is about the most tame innocous banner ads I've ever seen. Usually it just says Buy Opera Today! in white on a blue background and then has the opera logo. Doesn't bother me in the least. No flashing, no moving, no shoot the monkey to win bananabucks or any of that silliness.
In opera the way to get it to tell websites that it is IE is to do a default install. Thats the default option. There are still some websites that can tell but those are few and far between. My bank is the only one I can think of.

| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/29/2005 5:43:33 PM | Firefox is my choice.. Im anti Microsoft anyway but its a shame that IE 7 is a total ripoff of Firefox..
It blows But Firefox all the way...

| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/30/2005 3:53:47 AM | | I use firefox 90% of the time, and use IE for the pages that just don't load right. However, I HATE writing code for firefox, a lot of the objects and whatnot aren't included, so javascript can be a real pain in the butt to get to work properly with firefox. | |

| What browser do you use? Posted: 8/30/2005 12:17:51 PM | I use so many different browsers it is mind blowing. I design web sites for a living and I need to make sure the pages of each site look and work properly. I've been using the new Netscape 8 to just browse the net and I'm interested to see what the new IE 7 is going to be able to do if anything. Firefox is ok but getting the pages to work right is a royal pain. The new Opera is great but for some reason it has a conflict with something on my computer and it is always locking up. I use it on my laptop without any trouble but there it only has to live with IE 6. | |

| What browser do you use? Posted: 9/1/2005 1:02:31 PM | I went from IE *yuck* to firefox, and I was hooked, but now I'm using Opera, and holy smokes!!! I gotta say, Opera is the most well thought out, complete web browsing system I have come across. I don't think I can use another browser besides Opera (mind you I would still have to use IE for direct hotmail access and stuff). The layout, simplicity, and customizable controll is astounding. Plus the fact that you can controll how your cookies are used, for the site address, entire server etc is really sweet.
Just my two sense, but any non IE based browser is better than microfizzle lol

For Starters, can't use it to Moderate this Site. Working fine for me. In fact, with a few extensions, it makes moderating a ton easier for me than when I've had to use another computer without Fx.

| What browser do you use? Posted: 9/8/2005 10:42:18 AM | | Konqueror or Mozilla are the best. I gave up on windows a long time ago and like some already posted Firefox has had some issues since it became popular. | |

| What browser do you use? Posted: 9/10/2005 1:11:50 AM | Earlier on I would have said Firefox. But now there are things that make me hesitant...
1) I can't wait to see what IEver 7 is like - I've heard some very promising things 2) Ya absolutely and unfortunately need IE for certain applications, else things get buggy, like ims, pdfs, and most importantly Online Applications...Omniture, many strong CMS, loads of others... 3) Firefox is HEAVY

Opera doesn't have banner ads or a licensing fee now,.. you get the full-fledged version totally free! (P.S. The new IE 7 copies a lot of features from it,... but IE 7, also known as Vista, is heavy, not as slick. )
http://www.opera.com/
Trust me,... it's the most user-friendly browser I've seen. and is only 1 fourth the size of a movie download, or 1 song download.
P.S. I've tried browsers all the way from 1991, still using Firefox sparingly and IE even more sparingly.

| What browser? The TomCat Prowler. Posted: 12/20/2005 8:33:44 PM | Hi...
THANKS for reviewing the Prowler Browser, BDM! I welcome all criticisms. I shall respond to your response, just for responsiveness sake...
Pop-Up Blocker... Yes, it will NOT allow ANY window to "pop up", we chose to go with this type of blocker to circumvent future workarounds to those allowing such a window to open. The button to disable and re-enable is needed for websites who wish to open these windows and you desire that content. We'll try and rework this to allow clicked-on links in a future upgraded release.
The 2-Click Clean... Newbies is EXACTLY who this is for, yes. You can always use any other method you like, just as with any other browser, of course. I admit even I use this 2-click method, however, I never did like cookies, LOL.
We would like to upgrade this software soon, and will look at the Pop-Up Blocker allowing clicked-on links that open new windows. We are also in the midst of creating a better homepage to suit users needs, such as personalized quick links. I'm glad you checked it out and found it to be all I said.
Since we appeal to Dialup users, we try and keep the filesize down, but perhaps adding certain popular plugins might be a good idea.
We actually ASKED THE PEOPLE what THEY would like to see in a Browser when we first created the Prowler. We are also asking the same now for a future upgraded release...
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN A BROWSER?
-Tom

| What browser do you use? Posted: 12/21/2005 5:46:25 PM | | I'm not that particular. I scan for malware/spyware everyday so I use IE and sometimes I use Opera. On the Linux box I use Mozilla or Konqueror. | |

| What browser? The TomCat Prowler. Posted: 12/21/2005 8:16:51 PM | Thats kind of cool of you Tommy. Coming out to a forum and talking about your browser and even asking for reccomendations is something I have not really come to expect from programmers very often. Kudos.
That said, I am still rather fond of Opera. I have a hard time imagining any feature I could want on a web browser that isn't already a part of Opera. Maybe a heuristics engine and database of known malware, spyware, adware and viruses that will add protection while web browsing and downloading, but that is functionality already provided by many free antivirus and antispyware applications.
Maybe I will try out the Prowler Browser at some point, when I have some free time to do so.
Good luck. | |

| What browser do you use? Posted: 12/22/2005 9:42:54 AM | Firefox all the way. I usually run Linux (Slackware 10.1) or sometimes Windows (98SE) and have Firefox on both. I have done the performance tweaks on FF and it rocks.
I have the 98lite mod on Windows which allows you to install Windows WITHOUT Internet Explorer. So I don't even have IE on my machine. I don't much care for Konqueror. I have run Opera on Windows in the past, but FF blows it away.
