| IMPORTANT --> Spyware - Popups, Homepage Changing, etc Posted: 7/23/2009 4:10:44 PM | I have worked with sites like geekstogo and TechSuportGuy, I helped people around the world clean their PCs of viruses, spyware, browser hjackers etc... This what I recommend to have save surfing experiences: 1) do not use "internet Explorer" as your browser, marketing companies attack this browser most, 80% of PC users use IE. Use Mozilla, or opera, takes time to get used to, but much safer and user friendly. Learn how to override cookies. Allowing only the cookies you want gives you more control of your PC 1a) if you insist on using IE, protect yourself well, learn how to override cookies, . Look into HostXpert, learn it, install it.
2) you need an anti-spyware and anti-virus program of course, some are free some aren't. Norton products aren't any good, for a few reasons, it slows down the strongest of PCs, it doesn't play nice with anti-spyware programs and it isn't free. If you are the have to pay for anti-virus program type, use Nod32. If you are like me and love free stuff, then AVG is great, does it's job well, does not use much resources. And it's FREEE. I love dat word me.
2a) SuperAntiSpyware is a great program, it catches a lot that others don't, like Smitfraud, vundo, you won't need 2 programs like Ad-Aware andSpybot, SaS does more then both combined
3)You will need a good program to clean out your cookies, temp files, registry with a click of a button, ATF, very simple to use, but doesn't clean the registry, I use "Ccleaner".
4)One thing I tell people is learn how to use "Task Manager" google this and learn it, here you can see what is running on your PC, kill it, you can re-start your PC when your taskbar suddenly disappeared etc..... Here you can look over at what is running, may not make sense, but if you google taskmgr.exe, which you will see when you open up the task manager, you'll find detailed info to it's origin and what it does. If you see a program exe that is not familiar, google and find if it's necessary or it's bad. Anytime you find a bad exe you want to remove right away. Spyware will re-install every time you re-start your PC, you need to identify in order to get rid of it properly. Tech sites give free help on cleaning any virus. Viruse and spyware are born daily, it's important to know your PC.
5) Use an online spyware scanner, Panda Active Scan updates their files regularly, learn how to use, it's free to scan, but not free to delete, you can manually delete the bad files it finds, again google will help.
6)If you have kids using a PC, you know just how quick a PC can be rendered useless. Run SaS every night, it'll save you a lot of headaches. Marketing groups target kid sites a lot, And of course stay off any porn sites and any sites that offer cracks.
7)Important: keep your Jave updated, Vundo is nasty and difficult to remove, once you have updated Java, remove the old ones, Vundo is waiting to come in.
I'm sure I forgot something LOL
Happy and safe surfing!!!!

| IMPORTANT --> Spyware - Popups, Homepage Changing, etc Posted: 7/25/2009 8:03:03 AM | Don't forget many free online spywares ....are actually spyware.
I would only suggest using the one off of the microsoft.com homepage then deleting it thoroughly when you are done your cleaning.

Hmmmm...or you could learn enough about your os to know what is supposed to be running...and what isn't...
Hmmmm...Not everyone has the time or wants to take the time and effort to research every service, process, registry entry, etc.... to have the luxury of surfing the Internet, checking email, and other computer related things.
Do you take your car to the mechanic???
Ubuntu is Excellent!

This happens when you select a profile that previously had music embedded. The music is now gone... possibly a hijack of that site?
Can you fix it on this end?

| IMPORTANT --> Spyware - Popups, Homepage Changing Posted: 9/15/2009 5:36:36 PM | Been doing computers 35 years (yes, I predate DOS.) My recomendations are:
Free: Anti-spyware Malwarebytes Superantispyware and, of course, SPYBOT
Anti-virus: Avira Avast PCTools AVG - last choice
Firewalls: Sygate ZoneAlarm Comodo PCTools (not as versatile)
Clean-up CCleaner (formerly known as crap cleaner)
For a new PC, pc de-crapifier to remove the trial programs

PC DeCrapifier works very well, it might show up as a false positive in some AntiVirus applications...meaning your AV may detect it as a Virus but it is not.
