Posted: 11/13/2006 2:01:55 PM | I have been on and off dating sites since 2000 so consider myself a veteran of the wars so to speak. I’ve been on a gazillion dates. I’m a little burned out now and do some serious screening before actually meeting somebody. I have to agree with the survey. Basically, almost no one tells the truth OR doesn’t include things they should have on their profile. The most common lies I have found in men are their weight and financial status. I’ve got some really funny stories covering these two areas but I don’t think I have enough room for it all here. I think these are the two biggest ones. There are a lot of married men out there. I sniff those out before ever meeting them though. I went out once with someone who said he was a “casual smoker”. He was a walking smoke stack. If you think about it, is there really such a thing as a “casual smoker?” In all my dates not one has ever lied about their age. That might be because all of my dates have been about the same age or younger than myself. The best approach to take, about on line dating is to have fun with it until you run into a profile that you think you might want to meet in the flesh. Then you become the detective and also turn the dial of intuitiveness to high intensity. Since physical attraction is where mine starts the first thing to get really good at is judging a photo. Do they have one and is it recent. Is it of decent quality and in color? It’s nice when they have more than one and hopefully it is of them and not a picture of their motorcycle or of them holding up a big dead fish. Those are the worst! I don’t respond to guys that have no photo or of course the photo doesn’t pass the first round of inspections. Happy

I'm a voluptuous redhead with fair skin and freckles. I make a decent living but nothing to brag about. I'm independent and self-assured. If a guy doesn't like that, then he can go find his thin blonde, then (or whatever).
Why would people lie? It doesn't make sense, if the other person is going to find out anyway. And then the one who is lying will just look really stupid.

I guess only a few of the sites actually check this stuff out...but they cost the bucks...........so on here and a few others....you have to do your own detective work. I did show the divorce papers to someone before..She was going on and on about how many married guys on here, so I prove it to her. Simple ,huh?
I don't have a problem proving what I say in my profile is true.
I think I would get more responds if I would leave out some details from my profile, and hope she would never found out. It could go on for awhile.
Course it wouldn't be me, I would get caught very fast.
Would be interesting to know, what are those false details?
Guessing being married, or the picture he/she posting. | |

I'm from the school of thought that feels if someone lies about something as simple as their age, they're gonna lie about other stuff - and I don't date someone I can't trust.

If everything would be so great as many claim, then what the heck are they doing on a dating site? Shouldn't they be enjoying their "wonderful" lives? Obviously they have a hard time finding someone for a serious relationship. I've seen these kind of women around on other sites for years. The only change is that they post a new picture now and then and stick to the same bs in the profile.
Unless you think that you can talk your way out of it, your profile will always be hanging over you like a black cloud. What's been said has been said and you can't take it back once you start seeing someone. Another thing is what you tell people in private messages days or weeks before you meet up in real life. You might wind up having a hard time explaining what you wrote online before the date. Online you can take on any role you like and bull$hit people around, but in real life it's another reality, a completely different ballgame. It's a whole lot easier to lie on the Internet than it is to look someone in the eyes knowing that you're just full of $hit. | |

For example, the term "average" has been redefined to fit what used to be called "overweight", it's all pretty relative.
Similarly, 5'5 is usually listed as 5'7.

Posted: 4/1/2009 12:09:27 AM | I find this really doesn't matter.....simply because if you meet someone in real life you are probably hearing the same percentage of lies. It's just human nature to either hide the bad parts of yourself or to embelish the true facts about yourself.
