So, what do women lie about? In order of frequency based on my experience...
The number 1 lie... age The number 2 lie... weight The number 3 lie... smoking
While I find the occupation embellishments amusing, I don't consider them lies. For instance, someone who lists their occupation as "legal" when then are a receptionist in a law firm. If this is a lie.. it would beat out smoking.

| 80% admit to supplying false details on their profiles Posted: 10/5/2009 12:38:18 PM | Some guys lied about their heights; some guys lied about their ages; and some guys lied about their shapes. They say they are thin but carry a big belly.
I lie about my height as well. I am real 5'4"1/2... However, I always have a nice shape except once about ten months...

| 80% admit to supplying false details on their profiles Posted: 10/5/2009 1:01:51 PM | Personally, I wouldn't want anything to do with anyone who was so naive about that they didn't shade things at least a little bit in their favor. I want a human being, not someone who thinks of themselves as a saint.
It's really easy to automatically apply offsets to others' data and thus extrapolate to what the truth is more likely to be. The savvy have been doing this for years. No biggie. It's just part of the process, and no amount of railing against it will cause the situation to change. Better to just adapt and move forward. When in Rome...
If everyone just keeps their expectations as low as is humanly possible there's no room for disappointment.

Nor do I wish to correspond exclusively with 99 year old people either.
I guess that puts me in that 80% huh?
Although......the mad part is debatable;)

| 80% admit to supplying false details on their profiles Posted: 10/8/2009 10:57:18 AM | Profiles,
Pictures do not really say it all. I have met famous people while in Cali and when seeing them in person I was amazed that they didn't look anything like in the movies or on TV. Some people look better in a pic and some better in person. Then on top of that you have the way the carry themselves, talk, act and so on which can make a person more attractive or less. But when it comes to saying you are 5'10 and you are shorter than the woman of 5'7" that is kind of silly. Because when you meet she will tower over you. Men often say women want tall men, this isn't always the case, I don't care about height, just want them to not lie. And then there are the pics of 10 0r longer years ago, come on, this is silly. I met a guy once that even when called out on this, continued to claim it was him. No way nothing about the picture looked like him, no one changes that much in less than a year.

| 80% admit to supplying false details on their profiles Posted: 10/11/2009 1:52:29 AM | "Of course people are lying in their profiles. You can read one story after the other about that. If everything would be so great as many claim, then what the heck are they doing on a dating site? Shouldn't they be enjoying their "wonderful" lives?"
I disagree with this comment, just because someone uses the internet to meet people doesn't mean their lives are not wonderful!!
Also - I think a lot of the things people 'lie' about is subjective - the 'average' woman is a size 14 or 16 in the UK I believe. However I am a size 12 - but I tick average, I do not think I could claim to be thin but I'm nt at all overweight! If - hypothetically - I went up to an 'average' 16 I would have a BMI that made me overweight - so would I have to change to 'a few extra pounds' despite being the national average?
Height is a ridiculous thing to lie about, as a 5'8" woman I would feel very silly next to a '6foot' date who turned out to be 5'7"!!
I do not lie on my profile - I even felt guilty when I realised I'd forgotten to update my change of job a while back, even though it was a better job!! However, I could be accused of putting my favourite photos of me up - but then why would I put one up I don't like?! I have a selection anyway, all recent, and in various situations inluding fancy dress lol so people can see for themselves.
If you really want to check someone out get them to add you on facebook if they have it - you'll see a larger selection of photos, whether they have genuine friends and how they are when interacting with them. I find it's a lot harder to keep up the lie on a social networking site!

| 80% admit to supplying false details on their profiles Posted: 10/11/2009 9:52:28 AM | | no one is under obligation to supply facts to complete strangers....no relationship exists for a long time...you have to remain independent and concerned about yourself alone until you really know the person...complete truthfulness is an ideal which is difficult and sometimes dangerous on a daily basis... | |
