Bah, I wish I could make my profile sound like a peice of artwork, unfortunately, I can never get my mind wrapped around what to say in those description. I'm normally a person full of words, however, when it comes to a self description I'd rather hide in a corner and train my cat to type my profile for me.

I've met a couple dozen people over the years from these sites, and its been a rare occassion that the person was who I imagined from their profiles. I've leanred to go inn with really low expectations... and try and have a good time no matter what. Hehe

I think your profile should give the reader a good glimpse of who you are and pique their interest enough for them to send you a message. A really vague profile forces people to send you a message based soley on your picture, should you have one, if they send you a message at all.
Personally I like profiles showing a sense of humour and hopefully some of the same interests as me. I have met a couple guys without pics in their profiles based on what they had to say and it was okay. In the end it didn't work out but was worth a shot.
And people wonder why they don't get mail!

I bet you like soccer, running, camping, reading, hockey, golf, sports, cycling, dancing, dogs, and horses?

I can read .... and copy & paste!

I like a great sense of humour too! I am going to send you a profile in my favourites, I think it might just make your day Smilie!

i find you can tell a lot more about a person by the forums than by the profiles .... seems to me that people can write whatever they want about themselves in their profile and hope that people will believe that it is truely who they are ... whereas the forums tends to reveal a bit more about the persons "true" personality ....

I TOTALLY AGREE S & S!

The forums are a great way to see what people think, their values, and who they really are!

Great point!

Can't say I can totally figure people out but, judging by the word's they use and how they present themselve's, I can atleast kinda get a feel for where their head is at.

Some profiles 'read well' and then you give your head a shake when you read some of their postings. Hyde & Jeckyl effect takes place

Yes .. we all have our bad days (or in the case of some women .. PMS? lol) so you need to take all the postings under consideration and read through the thread to see if b*tchiness was warranted.

Smilie, I think some people don't even know what forum means. LOL

Doug, have you ever met someone that wasn't like their personality in the forums?

I think that in the abscence on information in a profile we all refer to assuming. We use our past experiences as a guide in that case.

So if someone has prefer not to say under has kids, means they have kids.
So if someone has prefer not to say under smokes, means they smoke.
So if someone has no picture, means they are hiding something or do not feel they are attractive enough to post a picture.
So if someone has prefer not to say under drugs, means they do drugs.

I am sure you all get the idea.

The more vague the less of a chance you have of being able to connect with that person. So the more you can safely disclose about your self the better a chance a person has to understand you.

I do TOTALLY agree with your photo message for sure, but boy that one irks ALOT of people!

We can go into hiding together. LOL

When i see a profile with next to no information it simply tells me that person isnt that serious about meeting someone here in this fashion.

Obviously it's an assumption but what else can you think?

@AB, yes I have met people that are nothing like what I thought they were. For the most part though, I can tell if I'm going to atleast like the person.

BAD GRAMMER!

Drives me crazy! If they don't know what a
period or comma is, I click on by. They may
be the most acticulate person in the world in
person, but if their profile is just one long run
on sentence, I can't even finish it.

I think that a profile is nothing more than a brief and albeit a subjective and sometimes biased view of oneself ...

I mean to say this ... Would you actually post a profile that made you look bad ?

It is just that some are better than others probably due to writing ability, and in some cases the pix says a thousand words.

Can I tell alot about the person ?.. No ... But does it give me something to go on to want to possibly chat with that person ... yes ... The profile is the teaser not the main course ... that is the way I look at it.

What is the deal with bad grammer, seriously, how many people are having to use grammer and punctuation in their daily live? i don't think i have ever needed it since i got out of school.

To many people assume grammer and punctuation is the be all sign of intelligience, did you know Albert Einstein could barely read, or that stephen hawking was the literary Grammer and Punctuation champion? HE WASN'T

Now try to convince me their idiot's!

The only thing i look for is blatent preferences, like type of music or movies and things generic like that, the rest is upto interpratation. I don't see how grammer and punctuation are gonna make any difference to making money, raising a family, having good sex, or cuddling on the couch, etc.

I mean omg, a girl that cant multiply 274 by 36 in her head, must be a idiot, oh wait she has punctuation and grammer. lol

Rod,

You can say that because you have good grammer.

Besides it's my pet peeve, and I'm sticking with it.

Phab, I am with you.

Spelling and punctuation is something we learn in grade school.

Rod,
Your grammer is fine.. what I'm talking about
are those people who write like this:

What is the deal with bad grammer seriously how many people are having to use grammer and punctuation in their daily live i don't think i have ever needed it since i got out of school
to many people assume grammer and punctuation is the be all sign of intelligience did you know albert einstein could barely read or that stephen hawking was the literary Grammer and Punctuation champion HE WASN'T now try to convince me their idiot's

Sorry to quote you, I'm just using it as an example.
I have seen many profiles like the example above,
and I just can't get my head around it.
