Posted: 4/6/2006 1:31:06 AM | Hi to everyone who is having the annoying problem of the Instant Messaging Service not working.
This is my story.
I could activate the service but was only getting a blank pop up with "done" displayed in the bottom left corner.
I deactivated my pop up blocker.... problem still there.
I found it was my firewall.
I use Mozella Firefox to access the internet with Zone Alarm Firewall AVG 7.0 Antivirus.
This set up is virtually impenetrable by hackers, virus's etc but sometimes is a little too fussy on the programs it allows to run.
To find out if it is your Firewall
Attempt to use the messenger service.- the blank window will display as usual.
switch off your firewall temporarily.
try the messenger service again.
If it runs and tries to connect then its your firewall settings.
Remember to reactivate the firewall after though.
If your service used to run but stopped all of a sudden, this maight be down to your security systems being updated recently.
hope this helps a few of you out, it wont solve everyones problem but hopefully some | |
