| Instant Messenger Help. Posted: 5/11/2005 4:48:37 AM | One of the problems that "could" be happening, and I use the term could lightly is:
You have some form of Pop Up Blocker on your system. now, an Instant messenger window here on the site is seen as a Pop Up and blocked. So, couple ways around this:
When an IM is trying to start with you from someone, if you have sound you "should" here a little "bongo hit" type sound, then nothing, what that "usually" is is a pop up window being blocked, and it's alerting you to that.
So... up on your Internet Explorer toolbar there is a bunch of icons(pictures) one may look like a yellow box with a white/light blue title bar with a yellow looking acorn on it with a down arrow.. clicking this down arrow will allow you to "Allow pop ups from this site" or "Always Allow pop ups from...." clicking that you can add Plentyoffish.com to the list then the IM mystery is solved.
Some of you will have a little windows icon with what looks like a red X in the middle of it, also with a down arrow if you click the down arrow you should get the "Allow pop ups from this site"
With all the pop up blockers out there, it's hard to know which one you have. but if you enable pop ups from this site, (there's not many here) then you won't have this problem anymore.
The same thing will happen if you try to "send" an IM to someone, you'll hear the sound, see the window momentarily and poof it's gone, so just hold down the CTRL key while clicking the link to reopen it, the CTRL key is a bypass key
If you see me online when you're here, and want to further investigate shoot me an email and I"ll try to hook up with you to help you out

| Instant Messenger Help. Posted: 5/12/2005 9:49:22 PM | That is the classic symptom of the pop up blocker doing it's job, if you have NO pop up blocker and getting a window that pops up and disappears?...then you could be in for a world of hurt.
This usually happens after you click some link of some sort, which then tells the browser to open a separate window. the pop up blocker then stops that. So try to remember the link/button/picture/icon that you clicked when that happened and click it again but this time hold the CTRL key down first, then click it the window "should" open up for you.
and again using the instructions above, you can add this site to allow pop ups, and the problem "should" be solved.
There's also a good tutorial at the first page of this thread, I would suggest reading that again, and specifically for the browser you're running, i.e. IE6, Firefox, netscape etc..

Go to the "Privacy Tab", and click the button that's labelled "Edit". Enter the website "plentyoffish.com" and click allow. See if that helps. If not, let me know, and I'll try to come up with other possibilities.

Posted: 5/14/2005 2:58:27 PM | I do not want anything but the process that will get me back to the original setup, which allows me to view my profile, the profiles of those who wish to contact me, people watching, etc. This we have been unable to do, and are somewhat annoyed with the paucity of info available to correct this error. I believe that to which I have been alluding, is called a hoem page, and shuold be easily availble to using your service. Feel free to consult with me ASpP Thomas C Davitt, CD, LL.B

| Instant Messenger Help. Posted: 5/18/2005 10:58:34 AM | | Hey, I use to be able to use IM and now I get to it and it appears to be enabled, but I NEVER get responces anymore, even from people that are looking to talk to me. If they initialize it, I can talk, but if I try to, I don't get a response. I know they could be busy and choosing not to respond back, but these are friends that know me and would at least tell me they were busy. I get connected and it just says "waiting for so and so to connect", and that I should try e-mailing them if I don't get a response. I just don't understand why I used to be able to IM, and now I can't. I even checked the "current males online" link and saw myself there, but it didn't have a link to IM me, just that I was online recently, which is not true. My IM is not disabled in my preferences either. So people aren't IMing me b/c they don't have to choice to when I'm on-line, and I can't IM them, b/c it goes through, or appears to, but I NEVER get a response. Any idea what's going on?? I ran all your tests and they all came back good so I don't know what's up. Help me please!! | |
