I DONT HAVE TIME TO SIT AND WAIT FOR EMAILS BACK AND FORTH. BUT IT IS YOUR CALL ON WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH SITE YES WE CAN GO GET YAHOO OR ONE OF THE OTHER ONES BUT THAT IS TO MUCH HASEL OR MIGHT HAVE TO GIVE OUT TO MUCH PERSONAL INFO. IF YOU HAVE TO MAKE EVERY ONE PAY FOR JUST THE IM PART OF IT LIKE 5.00 A MONTH OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BUT JUST DONT TAKE AWAY. ATLEAST HAVE A VOTE ON IT....
PLEASE BRING IT BACK....
OR LET US PUT OUR OWN IM ADDRESS ON THE PROFILE....

I have tried all the recommendations on this thread, or do the big red letters at the top apply to all of us, i.e., is IM discontinued, and will it be for the forseeable future?

Well based on the posted numbers that a little under a million people are active on this site each day and the fact that in the main IM thread in the site help section someone quoted userplane as saying 80,000 IM sessions a day here. And if we take those numbers and say that was even 80,000 different member which we know is bogus as many try over and over to use the IM here and who knows if userplane counts connects or initate contacts or the fact some people IM to a bunch of people etc... But lets just use the max figure of 80,000 members OK?
That means like 91 or 92 percent of this site isnt using the IM at all and are not effected by this.
So how many of the IM users will leave the largest free dating site in the world thats bigger then the next 5 sites combined (according to Markus anyway) because he killed the IM? Half? Maybe.... I doubt half of the 8 percent that IM will actually leave completely.
You guys that live on the IM are way overestimating the impact on overall site traffic if you left at least based on Markus and userplanes numbers that have been bandied about. If he drops the forums we would all be in an uproar also trust me. And we too are but a drop in the bucket in the numbers for this site. We dont matter either.
The add dollars are not going down that much as this site will still have massive traffic.
But if you ever have a chance to get the IM back the loss in site traffic is what you have to pray for. Markus is very smart and if site traffic does dip a lot he will MAYBE bring it back. I am just afraid it will be a paid feature for the paid members. Thats only my GUESS so remember that.

This is the main reason I liked this site over the other free site I use that doesn't have the IM feature. I also think that I am not the only one with this problem it seems to be wide spread. I think you need to fix the problem or a lot of people will be leaving for good. | |

Posted: 4/17/2009 8:58:04 PM | I didn't use the IM feature often at all, but I had to find this thread to figure out it was POF that had killed it, not a browser/java malfunction or some setting I had inadvertently changed.
You might want to update the "HELP" section so others can more easily figure out it's been turned off:

No more IM for anyone...
Company that makes the IM is being shut down evidently, and I see a massive increase in site use and number of people using the site when there is no IM.
Sad to see it go. I know that there are other IM services available.
Hope the "ADMIN" folks for POF are doing something about it and will update us accordingly. | |
