Remember when geeks were nerds? Those Star Trek-watching, pocket protector-wearing creatures that shuffled along in life, oh so content to pour over code and live like a mushroom down in their parent's basement.

Ah, how times have changed - or have they really?

Is being a 'geek' the new 'sexy'? And no, not refering to a certain sheep-molester.

Does a true geek intersplice techo-lingo throughout his daily conversation? Even when it is not with fellow geeks?

Does a true geek have the have the latest version of a software package (even when said software package is a steaming pile of crap)?

There are more than a few psuedo-geeks out there. Ladies, take the time to find a true geek - you (and your computer) will be happy you did.

Disclaimer - all in good fun. Geeks should have a sense of humour.

Yes but tech lingo has broken into mainstream so it's not as unheard of.

No that would be the true trend follower. A true geek tries to get the oldest machine and the oldest software that will work - that or build their own.

Would running a production app on a NetWare 3.12 server on a P233 with 32MB RAM qualify?

Seems as hard as I try not to, I always seem to end up dating computer geeks. Guess I have to face the fact that geeks are kinda sexy...if I could find one that was a gearhead too I'd be in total heaven...

You calling me a geek, Red?

486s are only good for low demand apache servers, since there's not much more they can actually do.

If you have trouble getting your boss to approve the purchase of any spare equipment to keep on hand, 486's are great to give his/her secretary when his/her computer breaks down. Ususlly gets some quick action.

I only have three things to say in response to the whole "I'm a geek" topic which will show me who the real geeks are.

(ctrl)(K)(B)
(ctrl)(K)(K)
(ctrl)(K)(Y)

EDIT:
I'm feeling generous, so here is a hint.

What the heck?

So, by your logic, does that mean that if I don't smoke, I can't stand outside and talk to the smokers either?

I have to admit ... I'm not a geek. I do however find intelligent (a.k.a. geeky) men very attractive. I think a man that can talk to me and fix my computer ... just makes me purrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Woohoo!

That key sequence will trigger the trojan horse I installed on all of your computers that will transfer your bank accounts into my offshore account.

Your browser window will close when the transfer is complete.

Oh, one more thing.

Thanks.
