| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/26/2006 10:20:51 PM | text message is useful when you're busy doing other things.. there are times where I'm sure we're in the process of doing something, and don't have the ability to talk on the phone while doing it.. I know if there are plans or someone needs to drop me a quick message, they can just email me or text me..
it's quicker to leave a quick note that way than call, wait for ring, wait for voicemail if it doesn't pick up, only for me to call my voicemail, check my message, and see what the person called for afterwards..
it is impersonal, but it's also very handy.. if there's a need for a longer conversation, then call.. it's much quicker to speak a couple paragraphs than to type a paragraph (unless you have 20 fingers or something)..
it has its purposes.. no matter how impersonal it may be.. and yeah, some people are just really shy and they don't feel comfortable over the phone.. one of my friend can talk much longer over MSN than over the phone, because of the awkward silence (which really isn't too awkward after a while), but some are just like that..

one of my friend can talk much longer over MSN than over the phone, because of the awkward silence MSN is free... to the best of my knowledge, texting isn't.
But then again, I don't have a cell phone. There are times in life where I don't exactly feel that someone having immediate access to me is absolutely necessary. I have an answering machine on my land line. They can leave a message and I'll check it out when I get home. I guess I'm just crazy not needing to be "in the know" on everything happening in life to everybody I know exactly when it happens.

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 2:05:22 AM | Anybody watch The Boondocks? There's a great dialogue about texting:
*Ed Wuncler III texting on his palm pilot*
Gin Rummy: Man, I don't get that. EW: Get what? GR: That texting sh*t. EW: and what's wrong with texting? GR: Other than the fact that it's the stupidest f*ing thing in the world? I mean why would anyone in their right mind spend 15 minutes trying to type some sh*t that they could have called up and said in 5 seconds. Plus it involves typing with your THUMBS, which I just don't approve of. Sh*t, I don't have time to be reading something someone type with their thumbs. It's all just ni99a techonology anyways. EW: What'd you call it? GR: Ni99a technology. Technology for ni99as, and don't start trippin' and calling me a racist, because I don't mean ni99a in a disrespectful way I mean it as a general term for ignorant mothaf*ers. Anyone of any race can be an ignorant mothaf*er. EW: Sh*t, I be texting my @ss off. B*ches like texting!! I be texting them all the time. Matta fact, I also be texting my weed man too you know, cuz he don't like to be on the phone, so I text him. EW: Case and point.
I personally like to have texting because I, often times, like to just say hi to someone that I haven't talked to in a few days. Just something simple to let people know that I haven't forgotten about them. I also like being able to talk to someone when I'm in the middle of a class that's dragging on and getting boring.

hahaha is there anything u dont complain about??? just curious
I'm sorry hottfoxy... I know big concepts can be hard for people some times, but last time I checked discussion forums were for discussing things. Read that over a couple times... I know you will understand eventually... And here a question for you.. Do you really need something to say that bad that rather than have anything to post with substance you just go to all my forums to criticize. Hmm.. I used to wanna be cool too... Now I'd thank you kindly to try and discuss the actual topics of the threads.

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 6:56:58 AM | The whole text thing seems silly to me, but then again, so do cellphones in general. I very seldom use the phone. Why get a cell??? Also, I am not yet convinced that holding a low-level microwave transmitter 2 inches from your brain is completely safe in the long term. Would you stick your head in a microwave oven??? When every third person you see on the street is holding a phone to their ear and jabbering away, it just makes me wonder how co-dependant they've become on constant contact. About the only use I can see for having a cellphone is to have in a car in case of a breakdown or accident or other emergency. | |

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 8:08:00 AM | lol....Txt msg's are excellent when my boyfriend is out to sea, or when he's on duty.... lol...ya'll may hate txt msg's but let me tell ya when your heart has been at sea for a week or longer and your sitting in the floor folding laundry wearing dog tags around your neck...and to your complete suprise your cell phone beeps and it's your sailor, txt'ing you that he's okay and that he misses you and is always thinking of you...That's when you learn just how priceless and wonderful Txt msg's really are..lol..I save all of them, along with every email, letter, voice mail, instant msg...etc..etc...and I reread them all of the time..

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 8:40:33 AM | Fieryredhead85: "It seems like every time I start talking to a guy he gives me his number and says "Text Message Me"...
I always decline.. I don't text message... Infact I deleted the service from my phone so I can recieve the message but I don't know who its from and can't reply... This keeps me for having to pay everytime someone sends me one... I just refuse to pay for these things whether per message or monthly when I can make a phone call for free...
But these guys just seem adimant about it. Either they complain or they just go ahead and text message me and then get angry when I don't reply (even though I told them I blocked the service)...
So what is the craze with this text messaging. Are you guys avoiding actual phone conversation or what? What do those tiny quick messages do to help when you are trying to get to know someone? "
Aww it's soooooo cute how you allway's speak your mind and tell it like it is Personally I never really got the point of text messaging either, seem's like a waste I think.

I'd say blah blah blah also if someone made a good point I couldn't contest... And so funny how the more mature person I was actually debating with understand those concepts and actually defended me. Amazing. Someone who understand a discussion forum...

EDIT: Way to edit your previous post to look like you wrote something more than BLAH BLAH BLAH.. If an opinion adverse to mine is valid I ALWAYS point that out. I often admit to being wrong. THis is not an argument.. A DEBATE. Where people learn... Including me. I gain knowledge every day. And many have thanked me for information I have provided.

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 10:13:24 AM | I enjoy intelligent debates on the internet as much as anyone, but it normally requires an intelligent opponent which this is missing :P
And... since it's relevant..

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 12:20:35 PM | | Fieryredhead85, from reading your post you seem like a mature, intelligent lady, I'd stop feeding the troll's if I were youthough, you'd be surprized how fast they'd go away, hottfoxy82 is just trying to push your buttons and is probably jealous of you. You have brought up a great point and the trolls attack you for no good reason. I'd just ignore it. | |

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 12:38:38 PM | MSN is most definately not the same thing as text messaging. Like already stated, MSN is free.
Not to mention with MSN you actually have a damn keyboard and not ten little numbers. Text messaging is a useless, tacky hassle.

| Text Messaging... I don't get it! Posted: 10/27/2006 12:45:40 PM | Thank you King jaym. I tried to let it go however, I noticed that both the recent threads I created had individuals doing this. Each person from the same area.. Saying basically the same thing including the "blah blah blah" and both with no picture. So I kept responding in both posts to test my theory. Sure enough all the replies on each thread came at the same time within a few minutes of each other. When I mentioned it in the other thread both stopped responding in both..
You know i just had to test my theory lol
But thank you I do appreciate your kind remarks.
