| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games?
Posted: 11/7/2006 6:25:11 AM | I don't play now, thanks to my Yugo of a computer, but I'm building a new one. 
That won't be top of the line, but it will be a fairly good one.
My interests are FPS games like America's Army Online, and Ghost Recon.
I also have a love for Civ 3, and Sid Meir. There is also an amazing racing game, which you can get for a song, called Grand Prix Legends. Aside from Gran Tourismo, it's the best physics I've ever seen in a racing game.
You pilot a 1966 era F1 car, on the old " dangerous" tracks, in that last great season of classic F1. There are a ton of mods that the online community has designed, and they can really add to the game.
Doing the old F1 Spa circuit in a 1966 era F1 car with those skinny tires, at 175 MPH, is a thrill . After seeing a few races at Mosport, it was also a thrill to race that track - and really start to appreciate it's challenge to a driver.
My games have to generally be ultra-realistic. I tend to play them as "real life" experiences, and have never gone towards the fantasy side. | |

Still there because really most anything new is so trivial, its almost like ya beat it in a month or two...even as a casual player..
EQ still holds the tittle for most complicated to achieve highend levels !! butt is getting to be an old game.. | |

If I were playing RTS I like Imperium Gallactica 2 and 3, Masters of Orian 2, Cossacks, Empire Earth, Blitzkriege,
If I were playing First person, I love Halo, Doom ect
Then third person I am a big fan of Grand theft auto | |

Posted: 8/20/2007 6:08:05 PM | I like anything fantasy or real time strategy games. I also like gothic horror games like Cthulu, Resident Evil or Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, but they haven't made a good horror game in a long time.
I also occasionally go for the shooter like Call of Duty, but I'm more into games like Warhammer: Dawn of War, Heroes of Might and Magic, Spellforce, Warlords. If I need a quick entertainment fix, I'll just put it on skirmish mode for a quick 30 minute battle!
Since I was 10, I was obsessed with RPGs, but after I turned 18, I stopped playing them because they're so addictive and I don't have the time nor the patience to play all the way through (all that leveling up takes forever; when you have adult responsibilities, you simply don't have "forever" LOL). I still like the art work for certain RPGs though, and I usually just buy the game to stock on my shelf. I have all the Final Fantasy games, but the last one I played was 8 and I didn't even make it past disc 2!
So why do I keep buying them if I don't play them? Well, I'm a fantasy writer, so I like to read through the character bios. LOL | |

I don't care for game mechanics, I just love the story
Neverwinter Nights - great game. I know a slew of C++ and Java so I can mess around with the toolset for some shits and giggles.
Not really into gaming anymore, but I find playing old Super Nintendo games is pretty nostalgic. | |

I would play a game for 6 - 8 hours a day until I beat it, and then have to stay up all night finishing homework. I loved strategy games like the "Command and Conquer" series, Starcraft, Warcraft, Axis and Allies, any game where I could play general and take over the world. I don't play them anymore because I'm afraid it will take over my life like before, they are like heroin to me. | |

Posted: 8/21/2007 12:28:38 AM | What a question, for the last decade up to a year or two ago, i was an addict, playing fps /shooter games, doing online tournaments, getting sponsored, having own servers and guild (for counter-strike), also ranked #3 in the world in rainbow six long time ago... now i still sometimes load em up, or play the oldest mmorpg , ultima online, thats all for computer.
then i also like old systems/consoles, i got everything from atari to dreamcast (nintendo, snes, master system, genesis, n64, dreamcast, virtuaboy, atari(s) 400 and 7200) and those I play once in a while. sometimes on the comp i pop in a disk play a rts/strategy like starcraft or civ. Now i do more productive stuff - sports AND games 
and once in a while, i do get the urge to go on rainbow six and and blow some people away, but i never last too long in a server, always get 'banned' for what they think is obviously god mode *tear* | |

I tend to play along but competitive is fun.
Right now I'm into a lot of online gaming. I play a LOT of hours per day and I won't say how many because I don't want to scare the woman off. lol Hey if I was with someone I would not play so much but since I'm single then errr yea many hours per day.

Posted: 8/21/2007 4:18:13 AM | | This is pretty sad. I have a PS2, and I rarely touch it. I'm much more into an online combat fighter sim called Aces High II. I don't play like I used to, but it's great, you have some arenas where they actually pit Axis vs. Allied planes only, then you have the main arena which is my favorite. It's definetly interesting to take up a FW 190, and try to roll in on a ME 262. | |

When they make an actual Wii native zelda next year, it will have to be ridiculously amazing to top twilight princess.. and they better not go with cell shaded graphics.. thats such a cop out, even though it looks cool.
On the PC i'm into all sorts of RTS (starcraft, warcraft, homm), RPG (mmo, bg, nwn1/2), and emulated games from many of the older consoles. Some of the recent remixes/remakes for the GBA and such are really neat with the additions (ff3 remake, ff5 remake, etc) | |

Out of all the games I have tried (which admittedly isn't many) my favourite had to be Half Life 2. It is called a FPS, but the part I liked best about it was that you had to figure puzzles out. Does anyone know of Xbox games similar to Half Life 2? I liked the original Unreal on the PC, but don't much care for the versions I have tried for Xbox. Halo doesn't do much for me either - simply running around and shooting things is boring after a bit. | |

Posted: 4/15/2008 2:16:00 PM | Currently I'm preoccupied with my XBox 360. Specifically, Rock Band, Overlord, Bully, Mass Effect (I loves me a good controversy), and The Orange Box. I may also replay Bioshock.
On the PC, I mostly play World of Warcraft and City of Heroes (in moderation, of course) and stuff like Civ IV. | |

Posted: 4/15/2008 6:10:11 PM | Favorite types of video games are usually party/multiplayer games where it's fun to play by yourself, but even more fun with friends whether online or in the same living room.
I have a PS3 and a Wii. For the Wii I have Super Smash Brothers and Wario Smooth Moves. I pre-ordered Mario Kart Wii yesterday.
For the PS3 I'm loving my Rock Band, Guitar Hero 3, and soon Gran Turismo Prologue and Grand Theft Auto 4. | |

Right now I do love all the Guitar Hero / Rock Band type of games. Awesome party games.

Posted: 6/8/2008 10:37:18 AM | Oh man it gotta be the MMORPG's for me like Lineage2 where you get lots of adventures and more. 
World of Warcraft is ok but too cartoony for my liking and the open PVP combat system in Lineage2 is the best still going out of all of the MMORPG's still out there or are to be released.
Now to find a lady who will understand it is just one of my hobbies and not an obsession. | |
