| For the gamer guys... Posted: 6/8/2008 10:44:17 AM | I don't know, given the choice between watching the crap on TV at the moment (give or take the odd documentary) and blowing a friends head off with a rocket launcher online, I'd choose the latter.
I sometimes play Team Fortress 2, occassionally Eve Online (not recently though) and.... Chess.

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 6/8/2008 4:08:19 PM | FPS = First Person Shooter
MMORPG = Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game
Alot of games you play on your computer,PlayStation or such (FPS) which are considered as locally played cause you only play them directly off of your hard drive.
Then you get up into the MMORPG's that you have files on your computer but you hook up to huge web servers on the internet with upwards of thousands of other players and you play together in a real time setting where you can chat, buy sell in game items with other players,go on quests, adventures, craft items for sale, form clans/alliances,go on castle sieges,go on huge monster raids with groups or just become a rogue killer of other players and escape the reality of the real world you live in.
In some MMORPG's the only limits are your own imagination. Lineage2 is imo the best one for the latter statement and is one of the oldest of the MMORPG's still going strong although it is one of the most challenging games when it comes into the player vs player type of enviroment.
MMORPG's alot of times are a "pay to play" type of gaming which means you pay a fee to play on their official servers monthly. There are some MMORPG's though that you can play off of what are called "Private Servers or Free Servers" but often times the latter are not as truly enjoyable nor as challenging as playing on a official retail server environment but offer you a "testing ground" to see if you want to go as far as paying for retail.
I hope this helps anybody who did not understand.

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/3/2008 5:49:24 PM | RPGS are a huge one for me although I rarely GET TO play them. like Final fantasy and Wild Arms and all that wher ethe story line is so prominent in all aspects of intrigue. and the character rosters, abilities and modifications provide such insight. I love the short skit or movie scenes in rpgs especially. Other than RPGS FIGHTING like Super Smash Bros Brawl or whatnot :) | |

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/4/2008 8:08:10 AM | I prefer MMORPG's such as WOW, but I really wish I could find one made for the Xbox and usable on Xbox live. Anyone know of anything similar?
OP: Adam, I would also like to know how you posted an original thread on the "ask a guy" forums since I could have sworn you are a guy? Baffling ....

I'm much more into an online combat fighter sim called Aces High II. I don't play like I used to, but it's great, you have some arenas where they actually pit Axis vs. Allied planes only, then you have the main arena which is my favorite. It's definetly interesting to take up a FW 190, and try to roll in on a ME 262.
That sounds like an online game I could get into. I used to love playing "Aces Over Europe". (Back when we still needed DOS to install/play games. lol)

wish I could find one made for the Xbox and usable on Xbox live. Anyone know of anything similar? PhantasyStar Online was console-based. But I forget which one. Also the upcoming Diablo III will be playable on at least the PS3. Since Sony seems to have a hard time keeping releases exclusive there is a good bet it will show up on the 360 as well.
If you like battlemechs look into ChromeHounds and their online play. It's not entirely a perpetual world scenario since it resets, but it's still pretty decent as far as consoles go.
If you just want something low-key the Champions of Norrath games (two of them at least) for PS2 were EverQuest-lite. But while they use all the mechanics etc from EverQuest, they are turned into a single-player game, not an online game.
And regarding your request as to how a guy posted this on Ask a Guy? Note that it was posted in 2006, perhaps the rules were different. Also, moderators can move threads maybe one moved this here. Though I can't imagine why.

<<--- This guy is waiting for Fallout 3............... .......... ....... .....
War. War never changes.
I am too.
I'm a huge Street Fighter fan, and recently picked up Street Fighter: Anniversery Edition off amazon for 19 bucks.
It's backwards compatible with x-box 360 and has my favorite (and the most obscure) of the street fighters:
Street Fighter III: Third Strike (probably the best 2D fighting game ever made).

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/4/2008 8:55:13 PM | I got Soul Calibur 4 just this past weekend, and I am trying to make custom characters that resemble characters from an old game called Valkyrie Profile. It is very hard so far. I need to unlock more pieces for character creation me thinks. | |

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/5/2008 1:39:25 AM | I read this whole damn thread and was begining to wonder if anyone even played Final Fantasy anymore. I think maybe 5 out of over 100 posts mentioned it. Y'all scared me for a min. I saw mention of FF XIII. I'm seriously behind, I haven't started on XII yet. | |

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/5/2008 1:42:57 AM | I played Final Fantasy X and it is in my top 1o of games' that gave me goosebumps. The game's ending was one of those happy endings that tugged away at your heart because deep down it wasn't so happy for everyone. It was more about strong willed people accepting what they had to lose in order to fight the good fight. Very moving story. | |

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/5/2008 8:08:04 AM | MMORPGs
EverQuest 2 and LotRO.
I like games where when you stop playing, your time invested is always going to be present and advance you.
The people I meet in MMOG's are very different then the people round where I live. I know these people online for years and they are very intelligent, read, friendly, don't revolve their life around partying and drugs.
It's too bad that so many people are close minded about these games and rather be out partying their paycheck away every weekend. Don't get me wrong, I like to go out too. I go to the clubs still but it's just that the atmosphere is so shallow and superficial.

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/5/2008 9:45:45 AM | | I play all sorts of games, genre is usually dependent upon my mood and the situation at the time when I play. RPG and RTS are probably my favourite genres in general but I love action, flight sims, racing, shooters (1st person and 3rd), sports. I play solo, coop, and competitively depending upon who I'm playing and what I'm playing. | |

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/5/2008 9:59:53 AM | I don't like the Soul calibur games or any fighting game without a functional parrying system. Once you've experienced a fighting game with a parry system you're spoiled for life. And I *hate hate hate hate* final fantasy. You want to know some REAL RPGs?
Baldur's Gate or Planescape: Torment
Planescape is amazing, probably the only game where you can have an argument with someone, disprove the other guy's existence through logic and watch him disappear. It's definately a game for philosophy buffs. :p

Posted: 8/8/2008 12:50:06 PM | | I tried to play arcanum, but the combat system felt clunky and uggish to me... not to mention I hate when they fuse fantasy with engineering to the point that arcanum did. Shit, I could barely even tolerate the guns and tinkertown stuff in WoW.

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/8/2008 12:55:01 PM | | So john, what would you suggest as possibly being the best MMORPG right now? Along the lines of WoW ... I mean I loved playing WoW and all, but I just kinda want something different. Well at least after the summer is over and I go back into winter hibernation mode. | |

| For the gamer guys...What are your favorite types of video games? Posted: 8/8/2008 1:03:21 PM | ^^ Well, WoW is pretty much the best one out there. And that isn't saying much to a lot of people.
There is Age of Conan, but I cancelled my sub. It's definately very darker than WoW, has boobies, and you can set people on fire/rip hearts out of people's chests and eat them(if you're a HoX). The Melee combo system, and spell-weaving features are interesting and much more enjoyable than the auto-attack system. Problem is that the game buggy as Hell, And no end-game content.
Warhammer Online is coming out in the next few months, and looks promising (especially if you liked WoW) with a heavy PVP Focus (or so they say). If WoW is your game, I'd stick with it, or cancell if you're bored and wait a little while.
