Here in Amarillo, I used to work for a place called "Pistol Pete's Pizza" It was some of the best I have ever had, but is no longer in business here.
In Kansas City, it was always "Poppa Z's". Every day for lunch.
Good Stuff Maynard!

The so-called pizza that I eat here is a good meal, but ...it's not pizza! You can find the only original good pizza in Naples... If you has been in Italy, it's possible that some restaurant outside Naples sold you a so-called pizza, but it wasn't it! At last, a curiosity: tha name "Margherita" derives from the name of our Italian Queen who, in 1905, tasted one pizza in Naples with colors of our flag: white ( mozzarella), red (tomato) and green (basil, an essential ingredient!).

| Best Pizza Place in Your Hometown Posted: 5/11/2007 8:22:37 PM | Black Rock Pizza. Gourmet pizzas with things like Asiago, Romano, Fontina, Gorganzola and Goat cheese, sun dried, smoked, or fresh tomato, various nuts(no, not RK) and berries, turkey sausage, tri tip, smoked bacon, spinach. They have sauces made from pesto, Thai peanut sauce, Buffalo sauce, BBQ sauce, as well at the traditional. The multi-grain crust pops and crackles in your mouth when you chew. It's delish.
My two favorite pizzas are the Cowboy Poetry: BRP's Smoked Tri-tip Strips, Bacon Chunks, Mushrooms, JalapeƱo Peppers, Red Onions, Red Chili's peppers, topped with Asiago Cheese and the Smoke Creek: Fresh Turkey Sausage, Pepperoni, Hickory Bacon Chunks,Smoked Red Onions, Green Peppers and Fresh Smoked Tomatoes topped with Romano Cheese(sometimes I get fresh spinach on it.} My favorite salad is the Wandering Stone: Romain and Red Leaf Lettuce tossed with Red Cabage, Carrots, Jicama and Grape Nuts
God I love that place
Dang JD, You have a face! And a mighty nice one it is. Thanks for sharing it...

I loved Joe's Barn. The best home cooking, on a grand scale. All you can eat for $3.50, and everything was awesome!

Downtown in the Pillsbury Tower is a great pizza place with huge slices, all kinds of wonderful varieties and the people watching is just as good because everyone from the janitors to the top notch legal teams eat there. West side of the second floor, they've renamed several times, I think their latest incarnation is Mill City Pizza. Mill City is the now trendy prebigcity name for Minneapolis. The cheeseburger pizza is awesome as is the canadian bacon and really it is all good and you will never have grease dripping down your arm like the cheap pizza chains!
Second would be Buca and they are downtown between hennipen and nicollet on 6th, I think. But there are some scattered throughout. Best gorgonzola four cheese pizza I ever had!
For deep dish Green Mill Pizza and they are pretty much all over, too.
But you want the very best slice of za you have to come to my kitchen where the secret chef's special is wholewheat thin crust so extra crispy you would think you are eating a tortilla chip covered with pizza toppings! Some one actually heard the crunch over the phone as I was listening to them and told me "Wow, you really are serious when you mean extra crispy"

| Best Pizza Place in Your Hometown Posted: 5/11/2007 9:50:13 PM | Pizza Joint has a superior product
Blu We pulled a blind taste test on the guys @ work...The majority couldn't tell the difference. Pizza Joint was shy on ingredients though. And I guess the thought of Mello using "spring water" in the dough might have influenced their opinions. I'll have to agree with you ...they both satisfied the craving . LOL!

| Best Pizza Place in Your Hometown Posted: 5/11/2007 10:49:19 PM | Used to be a dive called Inferno- great Chicago style deep pan pizza, hellish atmosphere- too dark to see the menu, barely clean tables (that's why it was so dark), and if you knew the waitress she'd bring you a Barley Pop at the time highly illegal in a very dry city. Back in the bad old days about 5 or 6 of us would order a large, a couple of pitchers, and fried mushrooms. It closed years ago when the city finally showed up for an inspection and turned on the lights. Now it's JB's for delivery, if you don't mind tourists then either Uno's or Due's. Malnati's is supposed to be good and won all sorts of awards and stuff, but they're a little heavy-handed with too much oil.
There's also a local chain? (the name escapes me as it's really F**ing expensive) that serves Napolitano style pizza- very different than the standard NY of Chicago style stuff... light, large squares of fresh mozzarrella, sliced roma tomatos, and fresh basil, on a very lightly oiled sourdough crust, and baked in a wood fired brick oven.
Other than those, and all are deep-dish pan, there is NO decent thin-crust pizza to be found in the Chicago area. All we get is cheese on cardboard cut into little squares that burn the top of your mouth at the first bite.

| Best Pizza Place in Your Hometown Posted: 5/11/2007 11:16:36 PM | AAAH...deep dish... But New York and a few other places would take issue with who has the best. But good...no doubt... | |

| Best Pizza Place in Your Hometown Posted: 5/12/2007 6:44:25 PM | Marco's in Dallas. Best pizza, especially the Margarita pizza- medium crust, sweet basil, parm cheese and roma tomatoes. Their calzones will bring a tear to your eye! | |

But there is a place called Michaels Steaks and Subs on South Main Street, that with the right building and location would give Christos a run for its money, its really good pizza....if you live in Lexington, NC please stop by and try his pizza, the owner does the cooking himself and really puts love into it....thats what makes this pizza so yummy!
