| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 10/31/2006 7:39:49 PM | I'm not sure its a guy thing, but more of a personal choice of how to unplug from our regular lives. I live with cell phones and computers and cars and street lights and voicemail and honking horns and foul air and rude people day in and day out. Heading out to the country allows me to completly unplug, cold turkey. Take things slower. If it too me two hours every day to prepare my dinner I'd be dead or seriously sleep deprived, but the mental massage of doing this at a serene campsite listening to the ripples of a lake gently lap at the shore couldn't appeal to me more.
And you'd have to call me a fool not to want to share this state of being with someone else.

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 10/31/2006 7:54:19 PM | Yes there are women who like to camp. Why do I like it? I like the independence of being able to sleep wherever I can throw a tent; the fun of gathering my own wood and cooking my own food over a fire I made; the knowledge that someone could take away everything I own, and I could still survive and provide food, heat and shelter for my loved ones. | |

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 10/31/2006 8:01:42 PM | There is something about getting away from so-called "civilisation". To be able to look around and see no sign of a car, or a building. To hear nothing but the leaves blowing in the wind. The birds singing. Frogs chirping. The smell and feel of pine needles underfoot. Myriad wild fragrances wafting on the breeze. I pity those who have not experienced such peace. I am truly lucky. I can drive 15-20 minutes from my home and experience such peace. I can spend hours just sitting and listening to the silence, letting it restore my soul. | |

Why, why, why are men so into "love the outdoors" and want to go camping and fishing and quadding?? Pleeeeessssssse somebody tell me. Are there really that many women who do this? I don't know of any women who want to sit in the bush with bugs crawling around and strange animals in the forest, and even if it's in a camper trailer (ewww trailer), who wants to cook and clean and make beds and sweep floors on a holiday. Not this cookie. Anyway, it's just a question. Do you really find women who like this stuff? Inquiring minds want to know.
Because maybe while going through some ancestral memories I get this notion that a woman would find nothing sexier than watching me capture and kill a small animal for our dinner and cook it on a fire.
I even like to grunt while doing it.
In all seriousness, when I take a girl out camping with me as a date, I do all the planning, cooking, cleaning. She just has to sit in the shade and enjoy the scenery and my company.

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 10/31/2006 8:09:02 PM | | I honestly have no problems with the outdoors...and I've also met a few guys who don't like the outdoors. 2 of my best friends are guys and they've never even been camping before...because they don't want to be outside. But I guess it's not necessarily the guys it just depends on how you feel about being outside and the different weather, and I guess what you're doing... | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 8:54:30 PM | | The real trick is to find a guy who can live in both worlds! I love the outdoorsy stuff...but I also love going the four-star route (and the five-star when I can afford it)!!! It is a rare man that will stay in a posh suite for a spa get-a-way one weekend and then hike into an isolated camping site the next! Where oh where IS he??? | |

| outdoorsey things Posted: 10/31/2006 11:24:43 PM | It's nice if you can find a woman that enjoys doing the same things you do...
BUT
It's not a requirement at all. Sometimes I actually like to get out by myself and just kinda enjoy being in the woods. If a bunch of my friends and the girlfriends or what not or going camping them I would hope she would go also.

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/1/2006 1:29:33 AM | | I think when we say we like the "outdoors" IMO we mean we like other things besides being deadbeat at home sitting on a sofa all weekend long. There been times when i put "i like the outdoor" on my profile. I do this because im more than just a stay at home guy. Also i hate homebodies! I meet one girl who wouldn't do nothing with me at all i had to ditch her. She just wanting to come over to my house sit on the sofa and watch tv and movies. Liking the outdoors could be a variety of things for me its just getting out of the house and enjoy more to life than sitting in one spot for hours an hours. | |

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/1/2006 7:37:59 AM | | I absolutely love camping! I love being in nature with someone I care about and not a soul around for miles. Beauty of nature, privacy, fresh air, etc. It's great. I prefer backcountry camping way out in the woods with nothing but you and what you can carry in your backpack. If you're so scared of the bugs - use bugspray and/or wear long sleeves. I don't hunt or go fishing for my own reasons, but I do thoroughly enjoy nature and the outdoors. Getting a good camp fire going, telling good stories, drinking some beer - there's nothing like it. | |

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/1/2006 8:20:47 AM | Camping and hiking are integral parts of my life, and wouldn't consider giving them up. Being alone in the woods, for days on end is nothing new to me, and I love doing it.
Msg # 33 has it down pat though, the perfect mate would be able to survive in the woods, and be comfortable in a 5 star resort as well.

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/1/2006 10:19:10 AM | | there is nothing better than spending a warm summer's day canoeing or kayaking or hiking with a special someone, maybe a little skinnydipping, followed by a roaring campfire under a starlit sky ... sigh ... now I want to go camping ... | |

It's simply part of the male code of communication disinformation.
It is really our way of pre-empting the request to go to the mall for 6 hours on a Saturday.
If you've turned down our camping request you're not likely to ask US on a dangerous expedition like that either.
That's funny!! and amazingly true (for both sexes again). When I think of the choice of a man glued to the tv or moving freely outdoors, I'll take the great outdoors anytime. Balance should be in there too, but if it's virtual reality or fresh air and nature - give me the real deal. And for this dirty old woman, nothing can compare to that first shower when you return to civilization (of course I think the same thing works when I return from civilization, aka "the city").

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/1/2006 11:24:26 AM | Sara, hey I used to be a complete city gal. Loved shopping getting the nails done; all the girly stuff. Then, I came across one who taught me to appreciate nature and the outdoors. I am an avid outdoors woman. Hunting and fishing are my addictions. As for bugs crawling all over you; you get over those things. Being in the outdoors on a daily basis allows you to get closer to nature, relax and meet some great people. Limiting yourself is not a good thing. I find that having interests such as hunting, fishing, and hiking; men tend to take you more seriously and appreciate you aside from the physical attributes. Perhaps, you should become more knowledgeable and learn more about the various things that the outdoors have to offer. You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain! I wish that more of my girl friends would come out in the bush with me; unfortunately, most feel the way you do! | |

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/2/2006 6:36:23 PM | Thanks galhunter28, you saved me the typing.:)
If done with the right person, outdoorsy things can become an aquired taste.
My ex was very feminine and a "girly-girl" type and was very upbeat and high maintainance but once we got to the state forest, she opened up and we wound up camping every weekend or possible available moment.
Got her hooked on fishing too!
Now she is all the more alluring and sexy for it. Hence the word "more" for she already is.
She is the total package for the right man.
Best wishes all.

| outdoorsey things Posted: 11/2/2006 8:02:26 PM | heh, that reminds me of a couple years ago, I went to the Dominican one week with a female friend of mine, in the lap of the luxury we could afford. Sun and surf and cool beverages all day. Got back on the Saturday and headed north on the Sunday with another female friend for a few days of winter camping, walking on frozen lake waves, cooking over an open fire (that was warm enough to melt a large perimetre of snow around the pit) and lounging on the beach in our snowsuits.
And I doubt I could have been happier!

| Why, why, why are men so into love the outdoors thing Posted: 11/3/2006 4:58:08 AM | | I am not the " outdoorsy " type of girl ( i.e. camping, hiking etc )...but I do love keeping fit by cycling around everywhere, walking, running and swimming. However, despite my lack of enthusiasm for things like camping or hiking, I can appreciate a man who is very much into those things...in fact, it makes him even more interesting bc he can talk to me about something that I am not really into...and possibly learn to like it in the future...and in addition to that, it's a future safeguard of getting him out of my hair when I need some time alone for myself, shopping in the city, with my high-heeled, b*tch shoes. ( bc there is no way I would ever trade them for Birkenstocks ). | |
