| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 3:33:39 AM | a good friend of mine (and fellow nurses) said "yeah men dig the nurses uniform until they start dating a nurse"
have to say thats been my experience too , yeah when I've worn my uniform on the subway or something I've gotten a few looks here and there ,which is flattering but any guy I've been in a relationship with liked it much better when I was wearing my pj's or his boxers and a tshirt.

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 11:14:36 AM | Maybe I should have been more clear when asking this question. But I wasn't sure how to put it. The reason for the question, is that I went out with someone, and didn't tell him I was a firefighter, when we were out I got a fire call and had to leave due to personnel during the day. Upon returning, he informed me that he could never date a women that volunteers or is even paid to put her life on the line for others.
So, What I want to know is does it really mater, and could you date someone knowing that?

If the costume/uniform entails carrying a gun It shows that you are a coward.
lmao... now thats about the most blind viewpoint I have read here.
Enjoy your freedom that you leach off of others. :)

He just doesn't want to fall in love with you, and then suffer if you are killed in the line of duty... I bet most guys wouldn't have a problem with dating you as a person with a hazardous occupation... I wouldn't.
You might think of desk duty or something while raising kids though.

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 11:26:37 AM | Its not something I would even think twice about but then agian I've worn a uniform. I have no problem in many ways its possible the only person I could be with would be someone from a uniformed service.
People are fearful and find many excuses, don't believe the failure to have been you pfdems91. It was him.

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 12:06:11 PM | Life is full of risks and a woman in uniform is just as deserving of a loving relationship as any other. What's with men and their little preventive maintenance theories? I had no idea they could be such wimps! Only kidding fellas! | |

More clear? Your OP has nothing to do with dating people who are in hazardous lines of work.
So, to answer the updated question, NO! I wouldn't date someone who choose to put themselves at death's doorstep everytime they go to work. I would surmise that there are many more cop/firefighter widows and widowers out there than any other occupation.
I don't care if they die, I just don't want to have to start all the dating drama again!

I know what you meant, and I was bad for using that phrase, "I don't care..", but after getting beaten over the head, I have learned to avoid that expression.. though I still slip up.

While I do appreciate the concern, I did mean what I said - I really don't care if people who choose these occupations die.
Its like worrying about a lifeguard getting wet. I don't have room in my "emotion bank" to care about the death of people whose job descriptions include dying. Don't get me wrong, I am glad they do what they do, better them than me - but doesn't mean I have to care.

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 12:50:05 PM | | I personally do not date women in uniform, as they seem like they are always out to prove something. I say lighten up have some fun. They seem to take themselves way too seriously and I just don't need the Drama or the attitude, thank you! | |

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 1:39:26 PM | No problems with it, they're often interesting people. Usually they are dedicated, have some ties to the real world guaranteed, and capable of handling their own problems. So, thats a plus. They have a leg up on their counterparts of similiar intelligence/attractivness. However, three things will flip the situation real quick:
1. If you're a disgrace to the uniform. You don't deserve your uniform if you're falling out at mile five. Similiarly, technical/tactical incompetence (like a certain famous female pfc who didn't clean her weapon) means you're risking people's lives, so any positive effects of the uniform are lost and you become little more than a shitbag who doesn't belong. If you were , say, a banker, this would be much less of an issue.
2. You try to overcompensate for being a woman in uniform, especially if you can't live up to your claims. If you can't drag a 250lb victim out of a fire, stay on the hose crew or dispatch. If you can't do something, accept it, and contribute how you can. Slowing a team down just because you need to feel equal is the wrong answer.
3. You stand at "parade pretty." If you try to use sex as a means of job advancement while your at wal-mart, well, no one really gives a hoot. Your co-workers might bytch, but your new position as manager might mean the stocking is done differently. If you use it for job advancement in a uniformed area of work, you are now in charge of high consequence activities because you were more pleasing to the eye.
Avoid those pitfalls and you're golden.

Admit it you like women in uniform. Whoever said military uniforms are not flattering, where'd you get that idea? I can assure you they are tailored to fit perfectly and are flattering.

Thank you, what I have learned is that most people don't understand why on earth anyone would want to be a firefighter, police officer, or in the military just to name a few. What I know is this. If it wasn't for the Military, we wouldn't have a free Country, they fight everyday so we have choices. Police Officers help keep us safe 24/7 365, and rarely hear a thank you. Firefighters work 24/7 365 with 85% of this Countrys fire departments being volunteer, helping those in need usually at the worst time in their life.
I was teaching fire safety to a class the week before last, a little boy came up to me and said "I remember you, you gave me the bear", he said "thank you for helping us" and then gave me a hug. Thats why I do this, because of your children, you and your family. Because their life is just as important as my familys.
FYI: my kids are 20, 17 & 15, almost grown. I did wait for most of their lives. :)

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 4:34:51 PM | Well, I used to be in the infantry and have to say that military uniforms on women do absolutely nothing for me now, if they ever did before. Nurse uniforms, sadly, have gone deeply downhill.
Policewomen? That's another story.
Cheers, Mike | |

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 5:50:06 PM | I'd date you. You seem caring, brave, responsible, have a good heart, not to mention good looks (always a nice bonus). Naturally I'd have just cause to be more anxious in a relationship with someone when they're putting their life and well-being at risk regularly than I would with, say, an insurance adjustor (though let's face it, plenty of people would want to kill them). Who wouldn't be? But none of us really knows when our number will be called, do we? You can't live in fear and enjoy life.
Regarding the erroneous interpretation of the original post, I think the uniform symbolizes service to others, dependability, security, competence and strength--all things that make people appealing. Throw in some training in hand-to-hand, and, well...

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 6:39:07 PM | i've worn 2 types of uniforms - 1 military - 1 construction/weilding.... love both and the different experiences being had....
reference the look of it - being a woman in a uniform gets looks no matter what...it depends how its all put together.... it doesn't matter anyways because its what underneath that counts - always wore something lacy or silky under the cam to still feel part woman with cam all over my face - lol
about the job - i agree with robdesign its the uniform that symbolizes certain aspects...
it goes along with do you look at someone's job as a big piece of the dating? same thing your job makes up a large part of who you are / so it represents a certain aspect of your personality....

I find a woman in nurses scrubs very attractive
I hear this a lot from guys, but don't understand it...Scrubs make a woman look shapeless and fatter than she really is...I personally wear them and am always amazed how when co-workers ever see you in street clothes or you see them in clothes...We're often amazed at how the other looks..Comments like...Wow,you are a lot thinner than I thought or Wow,you have an actual shape to you LOL
I like uniforms on women...they're hot...just as they are on men...But scrubs,I wouldn't consider a uniform

| Women in uniform... guys what do you think about this? Posted: 11/1/2006 7:07:21 PM | It all depends on the woman. I've seen military women look great out of uniform, but when they put on the camo BDUs, it just did not work for them. But when a woman is able to put on a military uniform, AND look sexy in it, she stands out in an amazing way!
Same rule for Police/Fire uniforms. Sadly, I see many female cops with a good figure, but a super short haircut. 'Most' of the time, that ruins it for me.
But again, it all depends on the girl.
