| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/18/2007 5:10:00 AM |
No spirits. It’s a myth, a fallacy created by man in his arrogant refusal to acknowledge that there isn’t anything after death. Man will not accept that when he dies he will be food for worms and all the other things that rot a dead body….lol “pong”!
Ahh but some "man'' will surely be eaten by worms especially if they aren't able to open their minds to what cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Knowledge is to understand Experience is to KNOW..
Maybe the experience of some poster's outweights any knowledge..

| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/18/2007 5:23:09 AM | May as well tell another one....have we all got the lights out, candles lit, appropriately spooky music playing in the background...
After my husband died I couldn't sleep at all and I'd literally spend all night on the computer, still reading cancer websites until the sun came up, I just couldn't seem to let it go. Eventually I made a promise to myself that I would stop at midnight and make myself go to bed. The first night of that promise, midnight came and I kept going. At half past twelve my computer switched off for no apparent reason. I turned it back on and it was fine. No other lights or appliances went off. The next night it switched itself off at midnight. Again, no lights or other appliances were affected. I sat back, and said 'Is that you Damien', and then the lights flicked off then on in a brief second. I waited a bit and then said 'right, if that's you, make the lights flick.........NOW' and just as I said 'now' they flicked off then straight back on. I waited about 15 minutes to see if they flicked without me saying anything but they didn't. So then I said it again, and it happened again. I waited again and tried a third time, and it didn't happen. (I figure he got sick of playing the game) There were no storms, windy weather, or electrical problems behind it. I did not imagine it. I may have been sleep-deprived but I was overly-alert if anything.
So...do I have the mental power to switch my computer off and make lights flicker through sheer psychological need of a sign from him?
I should also add that he was nursed and died here (in this house I mean), due to a desire not to spend his last weeks in a depressing hospital. Not sure if that has any bearing on anyone's perspective on whether this could be real or imagined.

| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/18/2007 5:40:20 AM | Imagined, no question. You were so sleep deprived that you actually fell asleep at the puter dreamt what you experienced and then woke up thinking no real time had passed and it all had just happened.
How strong or weak your "will" is, is also a factor here. A strong willed person would have woken up, realised it was a dream and carried on.

Posted: 2/18/2007 7:41:20 AM | Many years ago, had a seance, and asked to speak to my mother, who i have never met,? at about 3am, I sat bolt upright in bed suddenly! and slowly looked into the corner, and there standing, in the usual misty form, was a figure of a lady, ?? 25yrs later, i found a family, and found out my grandmother had died in 85, the year of the seance, and she was a small figure of a woman? somehow i know it was her?? will never have a seance again!! In 1996, i died in workplace accident, and wandered around and watched the commotion around me, described this in the ensuing statements, and these matched what the other workmens statements described!!! do not adjust your television sets!!!! call fox mulder,!!!

| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/18/2007 8:11:48 AM | I know that at a glance this might appear to be off topic, but it all goes toward the discussion of ghosts, and the point of interest that's developed here of whether they exist or not. So given that a theory has been put forward to disprove a ghost story from an earlier post, I hope that posting additional info relevant to countering that theory would be still considered within the theme??? It's written in the name of supporting that, yes, I have come across a ghost, as per thread title.....am I on thin ice??....lol...
Thanks for the theory Chiny, I appreciate it. However I think I'd need more than a 'but then I woke up and it was aaaallllll just a dream' explanation. I say this because...
1. As I understand it, it takes at least 45 mins, but usually 90 minutes, to enter a dream state. So I would have woken up with a keyboard imprint on my face had I fallen asleep at the puter long enough to have that dream.
2. Although a microsleep can occur without a person realising it, it happens when people are tired and they are trying to stay awake. I couldn't do anything BUT stay awake at that stage. Plus, no dreams in microsleeps as per point 1.
3. Time stamped posts on the cancer forum I was using, and email records, are a permanent record of the times I was actually online and therefore not asleep. My email saves emails as drafts etc if the computer is switched off mid-email. These incomplete but saved records did not disappear when I logged back on that first time (which you could dismiss as simply also being part of the dream, I know), or the next day for the second instance (which is harder to dismiss as part of the dream because I did actually go to bed, and come back to it the next afternoon.)
4. My will has taken me through an awful lot so I have faith in it. I'm sure you didn't mean to sound as if you were calling someone you have never met 'weak willed', so I'll assume you're tired (she says tongue in cheek) and perhaps weren't aware of how that particular combination of words stating what a strong willed person would have done was equal to saying that I wasn't one of them. Fairs fair.
So, no, not convinced that ghosts have been disproved at this point and still believe I have come across one, or two, several times.
Oh...and it was really the mirror story from earlier that I would be interested in hearing theories to disprove from any good skeptics out there. That one is the 'ghost' story that really defies me. ...S'funny, it's normally me being the one to want to debunk silly beliefs so this is good being on the other end for a change.

My response to you was not a personal attack on your psychological make up, but a generalised opinion that strength of character plays a part as to whether one is receptive or not to paranormal activity. I consider that I have lived hard, experiencing life, death and all the facets in between. From that life comes a strong character and scepticism of any paranormal activity. I doubt and dispute popular explanations for the existence of ghosts, simply because the numbers just don’t add up.
Some of those explanations of “ghostly apparitions”, have been, “the murdered can’t rest until their bodies or murderers are discovered”, or “the soul can’t rest because it didn’t have time to say goodbye to loved ones prior to death”. There are hundreds of other so called anecdotal reasons for parapsychological activity going back hundreds of years and in all cultures.
If it were all for real we would be over run by ghosts. They would be everywhere! But I must admit I love a juicy ghost story and humans have been telling them since the Stone Age. If it were a simple matter to debunk, such as going next door to experience a paranormal occurrence that has scared the woman living there out of her house, then I most certainly would without hesitation.
It is not easy to debunk a belief nor should anyone try, it is simply your belief and that’s it. How can anyone say that what you have experienced or saw was not? You saw it, you experienced it, so to you it was real and that’s it. However if several people witnessed the episode and told and then another several experienced the same thing and told and so on it would change to being a fact. But it is strange that this never occurs and the apparition is always tantalisingly elusive of proof.

It never occurs as such because not everyone is open to "other dimensions." It's not as black and white as "witnessing" an occurance.
I have experienced such paranormal activity, which story to tell, there are many. There was a time when I would tell other people and then get into a debate as such, but I KNOW what I experienced and I trust my own judgements on this matter. I have experienced close family who are now deceased come back, and it's not about having a conversation, it's all in the experience.
The best way I can describe it, is in the movie "ghosts" when right at the end he says "the love, it stays with you forever, it never goes away."
Love unlike any other that one would experience in this physical plane in this dimension. Pure, unconditional, non judgemental, the purest of love. I would say I have lived a long life so far, no in fact I think I have lived in this lifetime 4 different lives already and no where in my experience or in anyone's experience have I ever experienced such "love." Call it whatever, justify, I know what I have experienced and know what is to be true. Can I explain it, no... Can I give it away, not that love, other human love yes, but not that "love."
Where did this love come from...
A very close family member died 5 years ago traumatically. I was responsible in taking her best clothes to the embalmer to have her made up and clothed for the viewing and the funeral. I spoke with the embalmer as he wanted to know how she looked when she was alive and I said "well you would know how she looked as she is now but alive of course."
Fast forward 5 years, my son went to see a clairvoyant and this clairvoyand said there is a message from this person who is trying to get through. She described her to the detail and said the message was "my hair had to be cut, because it was all stuck together." My son put it all down to stupid nonsense, but the clairvoyant insisted that this message had to be passed on, the clairvoyant repeating it many many times to make sure my son got the message.
My son came home and told me what the clairvoyant had said and I just remained there shocked with my mouth gapping open.
Rewind now to the embalmer 5 years ago, I told the embalmer that she looked liked she did when she was alive.
He said "no, I don't know what she looks like because during the autospy they made a bit of a mess (he then went on to explain in full detail the mess made, which I won't repeat here). I was somewhat shocked but okay, and I never told anyone else about this as it was just too gruesome.
The embalmer then said, "I had to cut her hair, because it is all stuck together." Those same words he used the clairvoyant had used 5 years later. I never told anyone, not a single soul on this planet what the embalmer had told me in the five years that had gone by.
Apparently the message was given to my son to pass on to me, there were things I had to deal with which were all left undone when she passed away. They were all handled.
The embalmer, the clairvoyant had no relationship with each other. My son at the time of her death was 21 and dealing with his first death experience in the family, I told no one of what the embalmer had said to me.
The 'Love" that came back to me was from her. She gave me something that nothing can ever compare a gift so beautiful and so rare that it has stayed with me since that day. That love now exists within me all the time, it is always there, all I need to do is get present to it and it stays with you forever.
I think I am going to sleep really well tonight..

What you can't realise is that I'm a skeptic too...and yet these things happened. I've never been one to blindly accept anything, always full of questions, always the one wanting proof, and a cynic/doubter and all those traits you seem to value so highly. So I know exactly where you are coming from. In some ways I envy you that absolute belief that it's not possible, that I too used to have, because it's easier, I can tell you that much. But I can't ignore evidence as much as it messes with my logic.

| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/19/2007 3:06:12 AM | I used to do that... gather evidence, logic and all the mind games trying to justify what I have seen, but it was after that incident above, I stopped doing that.
That "love" was a huge changing point in my life, I knew what can be achieved here in this life and I realised that life is more than words, mind, physical bodies.
If I give just a little of that 'love" away I would do it right now. The best I can do with it is in the movie "ghost" when he is about to be taken away .. the love he was describing and everyone cries at that point.. that is what it is like.. the love overfills my whole being, takes over, there is nothing but love and respect for every living thing.
I have so many many other stories, but that one was the one that I not only experienced but changed the way I think.
The more one questions these experiences the more we close off to having the experiences. It's the judgement, the critical thinking in fact it's the mind that then takes over and stops one experiencing.
We are have free will and choice, when one gives up fear and the ability to analyse for one moment, that allows fear to dispersed and allows other experiences unbeknown in the world of what we don't know to come through.
One has to trust. omg.. I just realised as I was writing this, I was actually in a "zone."
Okay time I snapped out of it, but I am still going to have a wonderful night's sleep.

| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/19/2007 3:29:33 AM | Hey Chiny, you can come to my house to do the ghost search thing. I can not make up my mind on this subject - I've never been dead so don't have any first hand experience. However, many people say my house is haunted. Not long before I bought my house an Aboriginal elder died in the loungeroom. She bled to death. I believe it happened on Christmas eve. Two years later on Christmas eve I was printing up fridge magnets of pictures of my kids for the relatives. I had made a collage of my youngest daughter. On the first printing a grey line appeared down the side of the magnet. Annoyed that some how the printer had jammed, I cleaned it out and reprinted. On the second printing aboriginal faces appeared in that grey area. I have the magnets here. The area is not like the original collage, which I also have. Given the number of times that printers break down throughout the world, and leave nasty ink splotches on your work, the odds are that someone will end up with ink splotches that look like faces - it is possible that this is all just coincidence - or is it not?
I also heard my son crying and saw my brother being walked to the 'other realm' three days after they had died. It felt real, I wanted to touch both but for some reason, I felt like I knew I wasn't allowed to interfere with them. I also saw my grandmother standing at the end of my bed. I've always put this down to emotional trauma and desperately wanting to see them again.

There really is not a lot more to say, than what I have already said above.
And I do love ghost stories and watch "Supernatural" every week. But they never actually take over. For me it's their entertainment value that keeps me interested.

Posted: 2/19/2007 4:51:45 AM | | I wasn't seeking any further response really, just acknowledging that your perspective was once mine. I guess it's like what GG has expressed so well in her posts about experience being something beyond knowledge, particularly when it comes to matters less tangible. You can describe something, say 'love', to a person and they can understand what you mean, but until they experience it they can't really know how real it is. "Ghosts", same same.

| Have u ever came across a fun, cheeky, ghost or bad, naughty ghost? Posted: 2/19/2007 5:15:05 AM | What gets me in life is people who tell me emphatically that it just isnt possible....lol
isnt possible....but happened just the same
I have had one real experience.....and really im quite a skeptic as well....but this episode did happen
Not long after my best friends mum died....her father decided he no longer wanted to live in the family home, too many memories i guess....so he moved out. At the time i was working part time and studying full time. He didnt know what to do with the house so he asked if i would house sit til he decided.....god yes....no rent for a poor student....was a god send
I had lived in that house for just over a year....and prior to this one night....i had seen and detected nothing at all.
on the night in question.... i was sitting in a bean bag in front of the lounge suite watching tv which sat in the corner to my left.... to my right were two large glass doors that were open with the hall way beyond that, directly in front of me was the stereo cabinet with glass doors. On top of the TV was one of those dome clocks with the pendulum below the face of the clock. that sets the scene.
Any way watching TV as i had done many times before....all of a sudden all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up on end and i felt as if someone was watching me from the big double doors...i quickly looked right to the doors.....nothing there....gees deb dont freak your self out....lol
as i looked from the doors to the TV my glance passed over the glass doors of the stereo cabinet...and there was an image of a lady sitting on the couch behind me.....freak me out....i jumped up and turned around to find.......
NO ONE sitting behind me.....lol...i looked back in the glass doors on the cabinet and there she was clear as day sitting on the couch
i couldnt stand staying there....i ran across the road to my folks place ( they lived across the road) and i got my brother to come and stay with me for the night
although she didnt do anything to hurt me...it was still un nerving......oh and when my brother came back with me....there was no one there BUT
BIG BUT
The clock on the TV was going backwards......the hands wher going the wrong way...i have since been told this just cant happen....lol...but both my brother and i saw it
i never saw her again....but occasionally a door or draw would be left open or the stove would be on in the morning and some nights i could hear a vaccum cleaner noise when no one was vaccuming
one day my sister told me she had borrowed this womans earrings from her belongings in the front room....once the earrings were returned....no more sounds were ever heard
thats my experience with ghosts
i did some silly stuff as a kid....but nothing really worth mentioning
smile | |

I wake up in the morning, jump out of bed with a spring in my step a smile on my face ..and I really can't explain that.... ..so all in all thumbs . ...I am satisfied....

We got used to footsteps up and down the corridor and doors opening just like that . There had been some nastiness in the house in the late I88Os and it was a bad tempered , sort of petulant ghost . Never saw it but certainly felt it and heard it . This is absolutely true .

So...do I have the mental power to switch my computer off and make lights flicker through sheer psychological need of a sign from him?
Yes but I can only offer anecdotal evidence for my claim. At the end of a very bad period and rough background I had such a nervous breakdown that I hallucinated and noted a series of rather odd observations. Firstly the breakdown put me in quite bad physical shape, extreme lethargy, severe anxiety, etc., diagnosed clinical depression. On the day of the breakdown I did find it rather odd that, well following some hallucinations about colours and so forth associated with pedestrians, I picked a leaf and watched it turn dark and wilt in my palm, which was upsetting. But on the plus side I noted when I approached pedestrian crossings (was living in St Kilda at the time), they changed at my touch rather than by pressing the button. Many of these crossings will only change if someone presses the button as they interrupt thoroughfares. I decided to test this, and found I could stand beside the crossing for a time, then touch the post and get instant response. Odd. I also had very serious headaches and during the light change it felt like someone was flicking on my head, rather painfully, and there was an acidic smell, like I my gums were bleeding or something. And of course people were looking at me strangely. This only went on for a few hours and subsided with the headaches, later I naturally regarded it delusional as any well intentioned person on the road to recovery. One of my first jobs following the breakdown, several months later was corporate security, guarding a computer installation in South Yarra. Well I noticed the computer room gave me those severe headaches every time I entered (it was in a sealed, environmentally controlled section of the building). Could be the air conditioning? I also noticed you could hear the clicking of various electrical gates and such of the mainframe, and in concert with that clicking I felt those hard flicks on my head, echoing through the migraine painfully. I really hated that computer room, was a bit paranoid about developing some sort of brain tumour actually (at the time, you get that). This sort of thing pretty much disappeared as I recovered from the depression. There's a whole bunch of things, but this is the short version.
Naturally my anecdotal and poorly evidenced conclusion is that the workings of the brain are somewhat electrical in nature and subject to quantum mechanics, thus are interactive with the environment and most immediately electrically, especially considering only fairly slight variations of power regulation are required to make lights flicker and computers shut down.

OK ? .. that was not happy with too many visitors and would be most active when people came to have a Russian cuppa and talk a bit , it manifested itself to me the most violently when I was visiting years later , after having lived in the old house for 5 or so years .. I was angry that it disturbed my daughter , a baby at the time , at night repeatedly so I shouted up at it to quit it . There came the most enormous crash in the roof above my head .. so violent and sort of petulant ... I had to take my baby into bed with me . Next day we fully investigated the roof , which was capacious as it was circa 1870 this house , and found absolutely nothing there .. nada .. nothing that could have been thrown with such force . We investigated the history of the house and it seemed there was a very unpleasant situation there long ago between a brother and sister . We actually got a bit ho-hum about ye ghostie and as far as I know he .. I 'feel' it was a 'he' .. is still protesting s'thing or other in that house . I am for the duration in WA and this was in Vic ....so I will check the goings on ghost wise when I go back .

a wealth of literature about the ghost phenomenon.... vague photos and videos....
a bit like UFO's perhaps.... rich ground for the imagination.
considering humanity has been around for so long you'd expect the place to be so thick with ghosts it'd be hard to move around if there WERE ghosts ,as commonly described....
what have ghosts got to be afraid of by staying so illusive?... maybe ghosts are afraid of the living?... wooooooo... why isn't my lounge room full of wayward ghosts smoking whispy ciggies watching TV,shuffling chains and stuff in add breaks...?...
eeeek.. perhaps there IS..... arrrrggghhh!!!!!!.....

Yeh i lke to think that the universe is filled with energy that can cant be created nor destroyed,
sunbeam, me thinks that you thinks like a few very famous scientific minds
and that it has all ways been there since the begining of the begining. The day we died our body releases some of that energy as a soul.
The dissipation of heat from the human body can be directly related to the energy that the body contained during life....this heat cannot be contained and will just simply add to "global warming"...lol
It is a more logical philosophy to assume that the 9/10ths of the human brain in a living being that we DONT use, coupled with the ability of DNA to carry over the memory of the donor family, and added to by the memories you have of the person that has passed away........could possibly manifest itself in a "projection" from the living being.
the dead are just that, any ghostly activity would have to come from the living....unless youve watched................ "The Fallen"
