Why did a link to this appear in one of my threads? I am confused. Am I being singled out?

I have had that happen to me too. All I can say is men, or women for that matter, who do a hit and run are cowards and not worth the time it would take to formulate a reply. You are obvioulsy a bright and ariticulate woman, that alone makes you a target on here and men who respond to a rejection that way are emotionally disturbed individuals who have done you a favour by not allowing you to get caught up in their delusional world.

I for one, block anyone that sends a negative message to me because I have no time to get into a useless game of oneupmanship and I am sure you have better things to do with your time as well, as irking as it is.

Personally, I think that anyone that cannot accept a polite rejection or feels it is their right to insult you because they do not like your profile should be permanently deleted from this site as undateable instead of letting them spew their venom to anyone and everyone that does not live their lives the way they feel you should or, simply because you are not interested in them.

POF would be much better off if people like that, both male and female, were not allowed to interact with the rest of us through the anonymity of a computer keyboard since they would not have the guts to act that way in the real world where there are repercussions to such behaviour.

My hands are damn near black with the gangrene from the circulation being cut off from me sitting on them so as not to type a reply to some complete and utter idgit, who wouldn't "get" it anyways.
Same goes for my tongue .... a mere stub from being bit off before I can say something that would give them the impression I care. And after 15 seconds, I really don't.

E-Mail Block as a first Step, unless the "Venom" is of a serious Nature that requires a Review of their POF Status, better delineated upon in the Link below:

Wouldnt a profile with direct intent to flame also be considered a bit pyscho and crazy? I have had this happen as well.

I also recieved some nasty emails from someone who has a profile with clear intent to flame. I think that would be a direct violation, no? I blocked and now they seem to flame on the board and violations board. There is no way to stop this person, as they keep comming back years later to continue doing the same thing.

I think the best thing to do is contact your local police dept. Im lucky I work for one. As of right now, their isp is being tracked thru my line of work and a friends. I think if POF doesnt solve the problem of stalkers, the police dept. shall.

This one particular person I had a problem with 2 yrs. ago, and they crossed the line to threaten to come to my state to find me. POF banned them, and now they have made a new name to instigate. At what point does POF draw the line into real life situations?

Just one fish's opinion. There are always different perspectives.

People show their nature in a lot of ways after you send them a first contact:

0) they delete it without having read it (never happened to me)
1) they offer no reply after having read it (happens to me a lot - could mean at least two things: not interested to the point where they have no desire to let you down politely, interested but too intimidated by your profile and don't want to attempt a reply)
2) they reply to you with a cool answer (happens rarely, usually means they are politely showing disinterest, they answer your question, but never ask anything)
3) they reply with a rude reply (also rare, not hard to figure out what it means)
4) they reply showing interest, by asking something about you, as per normal conversations.

Blocking is a waste of time unless someone is truly harassing you. Why waste any brain energy on the #0, #1 and #3 sorts of replies? As the saying goes, there are plenty of fish!

I spend my energy on the good ones. I "favorite" people who show politeness (give answer #2 or #4), since they are rare gems on POF. Even if they're not my match, they showed maturity in how they behave.

the_humormonger broke the deadly silence with the following:
here's the (short) story: i've been blocked twice, both times after saying a polite "no thanks". both guys sent me messages. when i attempted to reply, i found out i was blocked. in both instances, i was irritated. not because i care about being blocked, but because their messages were deliberately inflammatory and/or insulting. ok...the truth is...i also kinda wanted the last word....a rebuttal opportunity.

Two times after being polite? Maybe your cut-the-cheese humor is attracting the wrong type of fish? I just read your profile...

Another thing one can notice about having fake profiles, and more than one...

when they use words in their profiles, such as, well, Ill give an example, lets say, CHATT. Now, the correct spelling of that word would be CHAT. But, if you see its unique spelling in more than 1 profile of said harrasing POF member, then, you know the gig is up.

Just a tip for ya. Blocking and ignoring is always key though.

That is a Threat to stalk, which is against the Law. Report.

That is Soap Opera, unwanted Communications. E-Mail Block.

No one is gonna get their Account deleted because you were called a few Names. Further, Subjectivity enters the Fold, and what extremely offends one Person is forgotten a second later by another.

I would like to suggest that pof add a feature to the blocking function; once you've blocked someone, you [the blocker] are then blocked from sending further e-mails to the blockee. or, alternatively, if you send someone a message after blocking them, the blockee gets a chance to reply.

I would like to recommend a slight change in that suggestion, IF you are blocked from contacting someone then that person who blocked you should also appear in YOUR blocked list, (like the subject line says " blockers should be simultaneously blocked" that way you can tell who has you blocked by just checking your "users you blocked list" without sending a e-mail and getting the message that the user has you blocked.

Just a thought

Nevertheless, should the Blocker have a "Change of Heart" which is quite common when Tempers run a little high for a Day or Two for a
Fall-Out to evaporate, he can undo the E-Mail block and inform the "Blockee" of it. Keeping the extant One-Way Blocking Functions as they are, an Avenue for Resolution exists.

There is a 16 yr old girl that clams that she is 18 on her profile, who is looking specifically for sex. I found this out by conversating with her and have proof of this incident. I give you full authorization to look at the exchanged emails considering this situation. If you need a signature authorization, just send me your fax number and I will provide that for you. My concerns are the young girl putting herself in danger, conflicition with the U.S. Laws, your sites reputaion, encourged predators, and such. Therefore, I am leaving it up to your responsiblity to take the correct actions considering the situation.

Apparently I responded to some pop up when I initially signed up on this site that has resulted in my receiving daily text messages on my cell phone and being billed for each of them. How do I get out of this situation?

Get him to send you a mail message. Then block him. Mail block is also Favorites block.

Belove,

I know exactly what you're referring to. You have to send a text message to them saying you don't want any more contact. They'll then send you one confirming it.
Obviously it's some sort of scam they have going on but since I have no clue who "they" actually are, I don't know how to report them either.

Sorry MODS, I tried to send this through private channels but unfortunately, due to restrictions I couldn't.

Well, I had an interesting experience yesterday......Had been emailing a gentleman and it evolved into a " lets meet" situation.....He emailed as to what I had in mind and I told him. There was a meet and greet (Treasure Island) that I probably wouldn't go to alone...but it might be fun with some company....OR, we had a great band at the local pub (we were less than 5 miles from one another), OR, I like ice cream. Now this morning I've been blocked. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME???? I just don't get these guys sometimes.

All they are telling you is they don't want to play by the Book.
You just flushed him out, and he's saying Sayonara. Move on, next.
If they can't understand you need Safeguards when meeting for a Date, you really don't want these Type of Clowns anyways.

Why not just have a block function where you enter a username into a box and click block?
To undo then have a list with an unblock button, i think one way blocking is problematic and causes people to stress (someone blocks you for reasons unknown, you should be able to make sure they never talk to you again.)

(someone blocks you for reasons unknown, you should be able to make sure they never talk to you again.)

In this Fashion the User who so blocked the other Party can reverse the Block should after the Heat of the Moment feel an Incorrect Decision was made. A 1 Way block permits Resolutions. If they do talk to you again, you can then block them as you like.

Why not just have a block function where you enter a username into a box and click block?

.............................................................................................

My question is how to block someone who spammed me with an ad.

At the top it says the following:

This email was sent because you are within 10k of the event or are signed up to it. If you do not want emails like this disable party emails in your mail settings.

But there is nothing that says "party emails" on my mail settings page.

To block a specific User from contacting you again, go to your Inbox, open the E-Mail of the User in Question, at the bottom left click on the Block User Link. Below the Block User Link, at the very Bottom of any opened received E-Mail Message is also a Spam/Scam Report Link you can click to report that User for having sent you Spam and/or Scams.

There is no block user link in the email, and no spam/scam report link either. How do I block the spammer?

Why not just have a block function where you enter a username into a box and click block?

Good idea.
