Between Cherry and MacLean, it's like watching a caricature come to life. They argue and shush each other, Cherry bullies his way so that he can say whatever it is he wants to say, etc... And every week, I laugh. Sometimes what he says is harsh - other times, he hits the nail on the head. (Although, not many people like to hear the truth...) He's the type of arrogant, pompous a$$ that you love to hate. | |

You guys totally went off topic, brought it back, and still. Nuthin.
Basically, Cherry, as a wealth of coaching info. Is dead already. He is simply, a mouthpiece. Just like the doods you see in the wwe. Or Mike the mouth Matesaw (poker). He is simply there to add some entertainment value, so you wont go a snackin in the intermission.
I would love to see Jim Hughson as the play by play guy all the time. Im kinda spoiled in that I get to hear him in the canuck broadcasts, he is very good at what he does, He won a gemini, an award show made by the cbc, for the cbc, when he worked at sportsnet! Thats praise, kinda like Samoa Joe winning a slammy! (hope you guys watch rasslin!) So cbc knew he was good, really good. I do find that Bob Cole is to home team bias in his PBP now, he has toned it down, and sometimes he gets the names mixed up, but us, as a society, dont wanna see him go, because we all fear change, its ok guys and gals, we shall all be fine. We survived the ending of "friends" we lived thru the "seinfeld" final episode together. We shall all realize that people come and go.
One poster had mentioned that the NHL is dying, I disagree, it will never die, although I dont watch the NFL, I certainly respect the way the league is run, and applaude the way they turned that ino the juggernaught that it is.
Cherry can stay, his run will fade as well, when he goes, Cole will to, and we will just have to accept, and watch.

Don Cherry is a dinosaur in the industry. That being said, he does make a lot of good points and at least he's not afraid to speak his mind when other people try to sugarcoat things.
My biggest beef with Coach's Corner is the endless eulegies to fallen soldiers. Let's keep things about HOCKEY. I don't care who died over in Afghanistan because I see it on regular news.
And for goodness sakes, enough with Bobby Orr. Just a *slight* built-in bias there having coached him in Boston...

When he talks, what do you normally hear him saying " Hey KIDS !!! don't try this or that "
You show me someone else who still knows this is a game for the kids ??
Yeah sure at times he rants and yacks about nothing important but at times his teaching for the kids can't be beat.
It's been like close to 45 years in hockey and 25 with CBC alone
Nothing beats it when he is told he has 30 seconds left or when he has to remind Maclean what the name of the show is lol | |

I have seen him often enough and yes while he does seem somewhat opinionated I do believe alot of that is for the sake of the fans and viewers. If he wasn't the way he is, coaches corner would be boring.
As far as him not talking about hockey. I did watch one night not too long ago where they spent quite sometime showing pictures and names of our Canadian Troops. How many of you out there shooting him down have taken the time to respect and thank the troops like he has???Honestly?? Damn right they deserve that recognition. They aren't going home to their families every night!!!!
I have been fortunate enough to meet him on several occassions as he was a regular at Shoppers Drug Mart where I used to work.
While many of you are knocking him down you should know that when I approached him and asked him for a signed picture for my brother who was dying of cancer, not only did he give me one. He took me to his car and gave me everything that he could. Duffle bags, hats, magazine covers, pictures. Whatever he had!!!
He took the time out and asked me lots of questions and was sincere with his condolences for someone he had never even met!! Unfortunately it was a very short time after that my brother was taken from us. Shortly after that Don was in our store again and took the time to come and find me and ask me how he was?
I don't normally voice my opinion on topics I'm not too familiar with but in this case I felt an injustice was being served........ | |

That was on rememberance day. I can accept that. I just take issue with him showing photos of dead troops during all the other shows. His show is about hockey, and he can talk about any issue within that realm. When he starts getting into his pro war "ra ra ra" mode and spending the entire intermission talking about dead soldiers, that's best left to CBC National News.

He does his rockem sockem videos with the fighting, then comes back with..." K kids..." kind of a contradiction.
if Don Cherry Goes, the Stock in Polyester will drop, Looney toons ties will all of a sudden lose popularity??? ( does anyone wear them anymore??) Who will they replace him with???? Tie dummie??? (no comment) Al Bundy?? ( wrong sport) The Hansens ( they disappeared on their last visit to Disney world) William Shatner ( ahh ya )
Ron Maclean will be forced to talk to the Teleprompter....or with CBC cutbacks....the teleprompter is now an etch a sketch.

An what, just because the show his based out in the East you think he has to cheer for the Maple Laughs... give me a break, another example of the world revolving around Toronto...
The guy brings color to commentary, he says what's on his mind... even if it upsets those who bleed blue...
He is a proud Canadian, he always spot lights out youth coming up, whether it be the Junior nation team, our shame full Olympic team, or giving pointers out there to kids who are playing minor hockey... he goes much further than hockey, with all the charities he helps with...
So yes, boo hoo that the Maple Sucks did not get some lime light... must suck though, traffic being more if an interesting topic that the Leafs... | |
