Yes we are a predominantly white country so therefor proportionally more whites would be amongst the criminal/fraud/abuse community ... In reality though there are proportionally higher levels of the minority races who commit 'certain' of those acts.. If the powers that be do not want to reflect this I do understand that. Self preservation and all that palaver... But Why isn't the white male afforded the same protection as everyone else in this racism/ageism/sexism/pro-equality era? | |

Posted: 5/7/2007 11:22:10 PM | This is a difficult one beause whereas i agree that no minority should be treated differently to any other or be misrepresented any more unfavourably than another i am also thinking hang on; when 10 - 15, quite possibly 5 years ago when every criminal, or crime in a television drama was being acted out by a person of minority where was all the complaints then, sorry but it makes a bloody change! Have you any idea of what it is like to be watching television and practically every thing you're watching the criminal is a person of ethnic minority? Although it fictional it can be very frustrating and at one time is was considered to be stereotypical.
Perhaps it does have something to do with being polictically correct, and casters or directors are just casting more fairly and recognizing that acts of crime arent just being carried out by Black, weed selling, drug baron Rastafararian yardies and they are now demonstrating this on television via their programmes and advertisements. But as i said before it isnt fair however to cast any one ethnic minority and have them portrayed in a less than favourable light.
Hey i could be really difficult and rant and rave that its because a person of the ethnic minority simply wont be given the job  but i wont. | |

There was an advert last year a white woman with a whip & a coloured girl kneeled down below her all the coloureds were up in arms about it, making claims it was racism and slavery, yet had the women been the other way around it would have been ok. Cant remember what the ad was for maybe one of you POF'ers can. | |

Protection from who exactly?
Its more than likely a white executive commissioned a white director to make a piece of film that's aimed at a largely white audience.
When they want to make advertisments about sickle cell anaemia they'll probably use a black person...not sure..just a hunch.
Its not so long ago that there were no black people used in advertising at all so why should it swing to black people portraying all the negative things in society?

If these ads were full of black people, you'd be complaining that the "blacks" are taking all our jobs. There's just no pleasing some people is there???
From my experiences with black people, I have to say that the majority really don't give a toss about such things, so maybe its the advertising companies that have the real problem here, not the minorities themselves.
I have NEVER met a black man or woman who has a hang up about "blackboards", "baa baa black sheep" or any of those other stupid PC regulations, so who is it with the problem ????
I really think you guys should get out more

So in effect for every 91 white people shown on TV ads..................you should see 3.5 black and 4.2 Asian .Now I see plenty of whites in TV ads and plenty of blacks in TV ads but aside from seeing that one Asian woman scrubbing a worktop in CILLIT BANG......no Asians.................???

There was a report on the national news a couple of weeks ago that gave the statistics for GCSE results, this report showed that Asian children were the highest achievers, followed by Chinese children, followed by African children and, at the bottom of the list for achievement in GCSE???? Yeah, you guessed it, white English children !!!
If a white women goes to one of these areas she will at worst get raped or have some Leroy or Delroy blk dude trying to talk to them.
I used to live in London and frequented Brixton quite regularly. I can honestly say that I was never raped and actually found it to be a very friendly place with a good community spirit. And some of us really don't mind "some Leroy or Delroy blk dude" trying to talk to us !!!!!! In fact, personally, I would feel a lot safer on the streets of Brixton than on the streets of Liverpool.

Yes there are negative white males in this country but also every other representational population have negative members and they aren't portrayed with quite such abandon.. I don't want to see these increased, I just wish that young white men were afforded the same decency in certain cases... It's not meant to appear racist , at all, that was not my intention ... If this becomes a flame war I shall request this threads deletion ...
Oh and just in case people think I'm racist... My grandad was black Australian and my grandmother Spanish. So tough , that stopped that argument ... | |

If PC was there at all................for every 91 % whites shown you would see 3 blacks and 4 asians but you see more blacks shown than their numbers warrant but absolutely less asians than their numbers merit . White men are the most roundly represented persons in media, therefore they offer more of a blank slate. There is no single negative social stereotype that identifies white men as a whole. A white man swiping the mobile off a table does not conjur up images of decades past in which their kind were depicted as thieves and ignorant savages longing for the fruits of a white woman... or for that matter the white woman who deferred descisions to her husband, because, "Father knows Best".
Images that were not a fair representation of a people(s), but rather created by a few ignorant **stards for the purpose of shaping social policy, or just fools who knew little of the people they were trying to represent in their ads, movies and shows. These images were acceptable up until about 20 years ago because there wasn't a substantial audience of the misrepresented, (couldn't afford TVs, a night at the movies, etc...), to worry about significant profit loss.
Now they do have to consider the financial ramifications of ticking off one segment of society or another.
One doesn't need to be an ignorant twit like Sobers to miss that this is not society being overly PC, but rather that this is a society in a course of correction. | |

And not all people think that if someone has been attacked that the victum is white and the attacker is black. I was looking at the woman on death row website and there are more white woman on death row than black, (sorry didn't look at the male list).
What gets me mad is that now they want to put all schools together (muslim) and be one as community but if white people went into a muslim community, the white people would have to wear what the muslims wear and do what they do, because that is part of their country. This country is not like other countries. England, I don't think, is classed as one country because we have so many different cultures. Its losing its origanality. If you go to another country, you have to abide by their rules and laws. Its not the same here, you do as you please. Sorry if I upset people but that is how I feel and hopefully it will all change now Tony Blair has gone.
But as for the ads, they are just playing it safe, but I bet they get complaints off ethnic minority because they aren't using ethnic minority. So basicsally they can't win. | |

1. The term "muslim" refers to a religion and not a race
2. There are white people that practise the muslim faith
3. I'm pretty sure I don't have to change my religion when I travel anywhere in the
