| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/19/2008 3:19:11 PM | | It seems to be a regionl thing, I have one in my truck and home. My sister in Tn same thing . I live in a rural area in Ms and grew up around them. My sis is a flight attendant for American and travels late at night often. So I have no problem being around a female who has one. | |

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/20/2008 3:13:35 PM | Let me know what you shoot and Ill bring the ammo. We will see just how good you really are with your "shooting iron".
This is my response to any lady that brings up the fact that she has a gun. It is nice to have some friendly competition on the range. kychas

I'd rather everyone who wants one, carry one.
Shootings would go up about as much as they have in right-to-carry states, meaning not at all.
People would be much less in a hurry to insult others, and more prone to civil behavior. Stress levels would generally decrease.
With more people around who have them, the training rate would increase. It would become a point of pride to shoot well.
With increased training, accidental shootings would decrease dramatically. Accidental shootings happen because someone wasn't following even the most basic safety rules, and with an "empty" gun (they're ALL loaded until you personally verify otherwise).
Ignorance breeds fear, which is where we have been going for the past few generations. This is QUITE obvious from reading some of the posts in this thread.
A whole lot more people die in auto-related incidents. How many of you are refusing to date someone who can easily, even accidentally, squish you flat with two tons of hurtling steel?
I was never brought up around guns/weapons so I would be very much apprehensive about anyone, not just a woman, ANYONE. I know in some cultures, people have been raised to use guns to hunt and that's fine, god bless them. I'm just saying that I don't particularly wish to be around someone who is a gun holder. It doesn't make them a bad person or anything, just their preference.
I do fear guns and if the person has to carry it around with them(unless they are in the police force) then I don't want any part of that person whatsoever.
And especially living here in NYC post 9/11, I doubt you're going to see anyone walking tall with any guns anytime soon.

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/23/2008 2:28:17 PM | you mean some women DON'T own one???
i'm in a rural area and it's so common that i'd be astounded if someone i knew didn't own a few. my first was a pellet gun (when i was a child) and i still have it. i was raised by a hunter/gun owner, married one once, raised one of my own, and have many as friends. it would never cross my mind to inform someone that i have guns. if i said that to a local, they'd just look a little puzzled, smile kindly, and say Um...gee... leslie, that's great
i don't carry one on a date because it makes my purse so very heavy.... ......or do i........?

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 5:16:40 AM | Hell lol if I dated a woman with who had a gun, i would take her shooting. If I dated a woman who was interested in owning a gun I would teach her basic gun safety and take her to the range and help her pick out a gun she could carry comfortablly and if she ever had to use, do so. I have absolutely no problems with a woman who knows how to use a gun and owns one.
Saying that, if a woman owns a gun and does not know how to use it, I have a huge problem with that, and if she is willing I would help her learn how to use it correctly. I have huge problems with people not just women owning guns in general and having no clue how to maintain them and use them. But then again thats just me.

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 6:15:58 AM | | It would depend on what sort of gun(s) she owned and why she owned one. If I lived in the U.S., if a woman owned something like a pistol or handgun in the drawer it would not bother me too much, given the culture there. However in Australia few people own guns and if I saw a woman owning one, it would raise some questions for me. | |

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 6:24:43 AM | | Greg, not sure why an aussie lady owning a gun would bother you. I know more than a few aussies and their wives, granted all the guys were navy pukes, but I forgive em, and almost all of them wives and guys alike new how to handle a rifle pretty well, and more than a few took pleasure in target shooting with me using my various handguns. Of course this was when they were here in the states, but it makes me a bit curious why it would raise questions. | |

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 7:02:14 AM | Here is a perspective from the UK.
I would have no problem with it whatsoever. I would be more interested in the character of the lady concerned. If I like her, possession of a gun does not matter.
Here in the UK ,I shoot rifles ( mostly target ) and used to shoot handguns until they were banned.
We are NOT allowed to possess ANYTHING for self defence here. One can use something he already has for self defence when attacked ( ie you are a carpenter and happen to be carrying a hammer ) - its referred to as "instant arming" but if you admit that you are carrying ANY item for self defence, that item becomes an offensive weapon and thus unlawful.
At least ladies over there have a choice...................

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 4:22:42 PM | heh...ya know a group of motorcyclists known as the Hell's Angels carry ball peen hammers...not illegal, often needed for repairing those old panhead & shovelhead Harleys...but also make great offensive & defensive weapons.
All someone in the UK has to do is wear a full toolbelt...they aren't weapons, they're TOOLS...hehehe I'm going to go to my mothers to fix her easy chair....

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 11:33:35 PM | | My ex husband made me take self defense trainning before putting in my hand's. I was trainned not to pull unless I was in fear of my life and not to let me be the one to die. I was trained to kill in self defense ONLY. I was on the news because they came by to do a segment on woman protecting themselfs and I was the only woman there on the gun range. They interviewed me. My targets were so good that my instructor went and asked my now ex if I had ever shot and he said no. The instructor said u have got to see her targets. They were shocked. I did better than the guy's. Guess what, I passed and got my certifacate and just to let u know, The class was so hard. They didn't care if I was a woman they wanted to make sure I could defend myself. They taught me things to do and not to do and things to say to a cop if I got pulled over and my gun was in the car and if I shot someone what to say and not to say. It was worth the money. They taught me how to load and unload in self defense. They taught me how to watch my surrounding's. I turned in the securty guard at work because I didn't know who he was, I thought he was up to stealing something. He later came to me and told me that he wasn't suppose to tell me because I was new that he was security . He said he was watching a shoplifter at the time. I told him I was trainned to watch body language. | |

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/24/2008 11:57:53 PM | A woman with a gun would never be my gf or wife. Maybe if i lived in the country and she had a hunting license... but if she owned a magnum and lived in the city and she wasn't a cop? hell no!!
I grew up around people solving their problems with social skills and self defence. Those people are still alive and well.
I've also grew up around a few people who owned guns. (althought not many of them) But the ones that i had knowledge of that owned guns fired them at least once at another human during the heat of the moment. Some of those people are dead or in jail.
You can forgive someone when they punch you in the face... you might not be alive to forgive someone who shoots you.

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/25/2008 6:09:33 AM | If they live in the city, they probably NEED a Magnum...
Just tell all your potential girlfriends that you'll be there constantly to protect them against everything that could possibly happen...they'll believe you *cough cough*

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/27/2008 12:47:08 PM | This actually reminds me of what Sean Connery's character said in the movie Entrapment. Having a gun means that you intend to use it.
I would have to pass. | |

Having a gun means that you intend to use it.
Cannot see your logic there !!
So, every single gun owner intends to use their gun ?
I am sure many have bought them as a safety measure and have never felt the need to use them !!
|
| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/27/2008 2:49:01 PM |
Having a gun means that you intend to use it.
Having a gun and not intending to use it if the need arises is just silly. A gun is a form of protection.
The law abiding citizens that I know that own guns fully intend to use them if some non-law abiding citizen intends to harm them or their family or loved ones.
Of course I intend to use any one of my guns if the need every arises and I must protect myself or my family. I have no intention of becoming a victim because I own a gun and don't intend to use it.
Responsible gun owners do not use their firearms to get their way in an argument, or to threaten someone in the heat of an argument. Responsible gun owners know the rules and the consequences. Responsible gun owners are not the ones you should fear. It is not the law abiding citizens that should concern you. It's the folks on the street buying guns out of the trunk of a car in some dark alley that you need to worry about.

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/27/2008 3:36:54 PM | I would say cool, what do you have, where do you shoot, and would you like to go shooting sometime.
I feel better knowing that she had a gun, because she has decieded not to become a victim. Call a cop and order a pizza, and see which shows up first. Cops only show up to complete the paperwork.

| How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN? Posted: 3/27/2008 10:11:19 PM | To all those people who say a gun is good for nothing. Lets say your house gets broken into..they have knifes and or baseball bats and are looking to kill you and steal you stuff. How would you protect yoruself with out a gun?..oh thats right you'd be beat to a pulp and/or shived to death, but atleast you didn't own a unless gun eh. Now granted whata r ethe odds your place will be broken into. Also ask yourself what good is car insurance if odds are your never goign to get in an accident. I wouldn't care if the women I was dating/wanted to date owened a gun. All i'd care about is, is she trained and two do the police know she has it and is allowed to have it.
