How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN?
Posted: 11/12/2006 5:41:38 AM
Look, the question isn't are guns, safe, moral, or usefull only in the hands of the state and it's representatives. And the general concensus seems to be that it is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. The question is how about a WOMAN with a gun.

Personally I have said it all comes down to how she handles the responsability. So for some this is a no problem issue. For some women, society has had it difficult for them and I have grave concerns about what the exposure to power will do to them, as power corrupts, and the power to take life is really up there on the list. And the remainder? The hormonal issue is huge. What about the gal that takes the course during her stable period? Hmm?

"What did that mentality lead to, some 60-odd years ago? This is the kind of stateist thinking that's spreading like a cancer throughout Canada."

--------its the Mentality of ignorent people like yourself who are setting the standards low here are wonderful Country Canada.

"Riiiight. You obviously don't get out much, do you? Between the shootings that go on in Toronto and Montreal, the recent string of home invasions in Laval.... I feal reeeal safe knowing that there are *NO* illegal guns on our streets"

---------- Its a proven fact and statics have proven that 90% of illegal fire arms here in canada are illegally smuged from the the states to canada.. And keyword is "Illegal" im glad you had the open mind to realize that here in canada we are setting the bar high for fighting all theys murders caused by illegal firearms from the usa.....and PS im not even going argue about who has a better life trust me you can't compare. im 22 and your like 43 and im sure ive got atleast x10 of what you own and Cap.....

"What's more, even if the perpetrators *ARE* apprehended, our wonderful revolving-door justice system has them back out on the streets before the new ink on their rap sheets is even dry"

------WHere you sleeping when canada pasted a law that has a mandatory mini sectence of 10 years if caught with an illegal firearm geez like if you post something know what your posting google it or something....

"Let's see. If I'm in a crisis situation where I have to choose between being beaten/stabbed/shot/killed by some f*cktard that broke into my home, and shooting them to save my life, I'll choose the latter, thank you"

-------- This is to easy dude.... I just feel sorry for you if you where born anywhere else other then canada..... statics have proven that Quebec As that is where you clear are from is one of the most safest places to live in the entire world..... with one of the lowest death rates the chances you will be beaten/stabbed/shot/killed by some f*cktard is slim to non unless your a real loser who asks for it which wouldnt surprise me.....

"And if I can find a woman that shares that sentiment, so much the better LoL"

------Have fun with your quebec women they dont shave past there knees and armpits

"--------its the Mentality of ignorent people like yourself who are setting the standards low here are wonderful Country Canada."

The fact that you can't even SPELL "ignorant" , or even construct a proper sentence speaks volumes about you.

"---------- Its a proven fact and statics have proven that 90% of illegal fire arms here in canada are illegally smuged from the the states to canada.. "

What statistics? Provided by whom? Studies funded by whom? The statistics change every time someone utters them, which leads me to conclude that evidence is insufficient to draw a conclusion one way or another, but one thing *is* clear: if weapons are being smuggled into Canada, it's because there is a demand for them. Don't you feel safe?

"im 22 and your like 43 and im sure ive got atleast x10 of what you own and Cap....."

All this tells me is that you cannot count, you cannot read, and you argue like a five year-old. The chicks must be mighty smitten with you

"------WHere you sleeping when canada pasted a law that has a mandatory mini sectence of 10 years if caught with an illegal firearm geez like if you post something know what your posting google it or something...."

Please post a link to that specific law, and then explain to me why REPEAT offenders like James Roszko, with rap-sheets a mile long, are still allowed to walk free and murder 4 RCMP officers?

"-------- This is to easy dude.... I just feel sorry for you if you where born anywhere else other then canada"

What leads you to think I wasn't born in Canada? Are you just trying to insult me personally, or EVERYONE not born here on these boards with that statement?

"--------the chances you will be beaten/stabbed/shot/killed by some f*cktard is slim to non unless your a real loser who asks for it which wouldnt surprise me....."

Are you saying that I "deserve" to be beaten/stabbed/shot/killed?

Did Peter Schiemann deserve to die?

Was Anthony Gordon asking for it?

What about Lionide Johnston, or Brock Myrol?

What about Anastasia De Sousa? Was she a loser? Was she asking for it? Did she deserve to die too?

Can I ask you something personal?

What kind of inhuman monster are you, and how do you sleep at night?

It's not so much about owning the gun but rather the willingness to use it!

I grew up in the country. In Canada. And I have no issues with guns. I grew up around them. My dad had a dozen or so hunting rifles, a few collector hand guns, black powder rifle, and wore a sidearm for his job. I'd have no problems at all with a woman who owns a gun. It's like owning a food dehydrator. You don't have to tell me about it. It won't make me care less/more about you.

Fear comes from not understanding. If you learn about guns it just takes the fear away. It's just a tool. It's not evil, it's not good. It's just a tool. You can hurt someone with a knife just as bad, a car even worse. A weapon is only as dangerous as the person behind it.

Stay away from psychos and you'll have no issues ;)

If she's carrying a gun (obviously American), I'd kinda understand
why. The place is like Iraq. I wouldn't feel safe without towing
a howitzer behind my car until I crossed back over the border.

OP, you didn't state how YOU feel about women with guns. I personally have no problems with an armed female so long as she knows how to handle a gun, if she doesn't know how to handle it safely, it would be much the same as someone who doesn't know how to safely use/handle a chainsaw (dangerous to self and others). I actually prefer a woman who is armed, it lets me know that she is prepared to defend herself and those she cares for with force up to and including deadly force. I'm a police officer, so I'm around armed females frequently. As to telling someone she owns/carries a gun, I think it should be very early in the relationship so the guys who are afraid/intimidated by the fact can bow out before she invests any time in them. Letting me know that she has a gun and knows how/when to use it also gives us something else to do as a date, it also lets me know that I have back-up in case I need it in a bad situation.
When I read these posts from people from other countries, I thank God that I'm an American and still have the right to keep and bear arms.

Aman to that Goldden... Lord Tyranus im not going to even argue with someone who has such a 1 way, disrespectful 2 foot sight on life.... go hide in your home and hope that no one comes and robs you with a gun. But for some reason I now understand why you life such a harder life in fear its probably due to the fact you make enemys very ez... I think the odds of that happening to you specificly maybe alot higher then the rest of us and thats ok its just who you are... Just be yourself its who you are...........

I wouldn't mind nor care if the woman I'm dating has a gun...because the majority of people I know that own guns are females and most of them are family members. Just last week me and my mom were in the pawn shop(looking for a guitar for myself) and she walked over to the glass case where they kept the guns.

She and the owner had a long ass conversation on a magnum and something else I can't pronunce or even remember, so when I came over he was like "So what do you think about the so and so gun?".

I was like "Uhh...it's purty?" lol. Everyone needs protection, my sister doesn't know it yet but I've got a sweet taser at my friends house I'm getting her for X-mas.

Sweet! Can I use hers?

All I have is a crossbow and that looks silly at a range. Or anywhere else really.

Oh, and California laws.

im a big outdoorsman, i love guns and i love to hunt. almost every girl ive dated has shot a gun after she met me. ill just randomly ask them if theyve ever shot a gun and when they say no i go get one and let them shoot it if they want to. i do make sure they know what i am getting before they freak out at the sight of a gun. one of my exs loved to shoot the AR-15 we had, along with the PA45 which is a nice little .45 cal semi-auto pistol. now she loves to shoot.

The thread has wandered off track a bit in a few places.
This isn't about whether or not guns should be illegal, it's about......

How would you feel about a WOMAN with a GUN?

To answer the OP's initial question, I would simply say I'd make damn sure that she knows how to use it properly, and more importantly, safely.

Range date to see if she in competent with and handles it safely, check out her storage situationto see if it is up to snuff and I would be comfortible. If she has the correct CCW permit she can bring it along on a date, maybe she will protect me. I am a range director for Boy Scouts and work at a firearms store so I have no problems with this at all.

One of the most intersting women i have meet carried a SIG226 and regulary hunted. The only problem hooking up was that we were both going through our divorces at the time.

Every real girlfriend I have it's always been very important to me to keep her safe, so I always end up buying them a bottle of pepper spray, for when I'm not around, for peace of mind.

.....but....I'm more comfortable being in burning pain after calling her mother fat, than I am being shot and killed....so just in case....i'm gonna say let's stick with the non lethal protection.

I just put my profile up on Plenty of Fish, and just started reading these forums today and have been curious enough about this very topic to consider posting a question, and here it already is!

A question for the guys - when exactly do you think it would be appropriate to tell a man that you own and shoot guns? Right at the beginning when you're emailing before the first date has even happened, sometime during the first date, or even later?

I shoot competition pistol and own several 9 mm pistols as well as 45s. I also own shotguns and rifles and handle them all very well. I'm very safe and comfortable around guns (obviously), but have been finding that it's a bit of a sticky point with men.

So, what do you think? Is it something I should bring up right away, or should I wait a bit and maybe say something on the first date or even later?

I agree with most of Lord Tyrannus' statements.

For me, a woman with a gun gives us something in common, so it's a plus.
