Remember the BEATLES once said in one of there songs, Happiness is a warm gun.
I feel good about women w/ guns, It makes me feel safer. I especially love the fact if they can actually hit what there aiming at. The only draw back is that the quick evaluation and reaction time of a woman is a little scary. I'm not so sure I would want to be the intruder or the one who puts her into a disgruntled position when she's packin heat.....No no.

I sleep pretty well with the .45 next to the bed (full magazine, round in the chamber, safety on, no "gun lock") within easy reach. Why would I have a problem with a girl who did the same? I think it shows a sense of personal responsibility, as she is taking the lead role in protecting herself instead of relying on the police for her protection...and that is a quality I look for in a potential g/f.

I have my gun on me at all times. I have a Permit to carry it. I know how to use it. And if your not doing anything. To hurt her. Why should she not carry it. There are a lot of nuts out there. You cant even walk down the street anymore. Now if she acts like a nut. And dont have 2 cents in her head. Than I say run very fast. Get away.

It's all fun and games till someone gets shot.
If she owned a gun I would wonder why I was dating a woman in the states. Cuz where I live we don't even have to lock our doors at night. God bless America...don't stop shooting each other on account of me folks. Have fun.

Say it with me now! I LOVE CANADA... Everyone has some sort o high powerd rifle for taking down a moose somewhere.. You don't dare go near anyones house out here for fear of being mistaken for polar bear...

Most people I know are skilled with rifles and to go shoot shite with the woman would be a blast. Now if she had her own .50 cal sniper rifle.... fukkin eh!!!!!!!!

in response to ceno..not only "hillbillys" feel the need to own guns. think where this world would be if we could carry concealed weapons..crime would drop drastically. I have a very strong belief in our right to own and bear arms, but ill gladly give up my guns..IF you take them away from the criminals first. but see that wont happen so i would rather kill myself then give up my guns. yea i know thats a bit extreme for most people. guns are what i grew up with, 1st gun i shot was a .22 rifle, 2nd was a .223 AR-15 with a 30rd clip. guns are not for only safety reasons or hunting purposes. there are shooting competitions, and then theyres havin fun. ever see a frozen, or unfrozen, milkjug of water shot with a .308 SR-25 rifle? the explode and its fun as hell to make them explode.

same goes for the cardboard 1/2 gallon OJ cartons...leave 'em about half full and when you hit 'em at 150 yds with a 30-06, they shoot about 10 feet in the air and there's almost nothing left of the carton.

Haha, I'm so glad I saw this thread! Ironically, I just told the guy I'm seeing that I own a gun on Saturday, so perfect timing to read this.

I have a rifle that my dad bought for me when I turned 13. (He was a hardcore military guy, and then a cop) I don't actually use it other then about once a year when I do target practice with my dad. It's not for "protection" or anything like that. He gave me Mace for that (actually, he did!)

As for what the guy thought of it? I think its just another fact in the "Things that Make Molly Random yet Interesting" column for him. He took it in stride :)

It makes no difference if its a woman or a man. The question is, are they responsible, safe and respectful to others in handling their weapon..... I own guns, and most of my friends own guns. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Its all about respect and proper handling. It only takes a few irrisponsible people to give gun owners a bad name. Besides, the deaths related to shootings are all illegal guns sold on the street. These are not hunting rifels etc. When is the last time you have heard of a shooting or robery involving a 30-06 etc? The registry on long rifles is merley a way for the government to make money. 5 years ago I was terrified of guns; never being exposed to weapons, I was very intimidated by them. If I heard the government wanted to crack down on registration of hunting rifles, I would have fully agreed. This is just another example of why one should be educated on both sides of an issue before making an opinion. I realize now that hunting rifles are not used in crimes and shootings for various reasons; they hold limited ammo. They are too bulky and too slow to load. Any hand gun in canada must be registered, and permission must be aquired to transport a handgun at anytime. Also, weapons must be stored unloaded, locked up securely, with trigger locks on them. Anyone using a weapon in a crime is going to get a gun off the street for the following reasons; they are cheaper and untraceable. They hold significanly larger amounts of ammunition, and are usually fully automatic. And, they are much easier to aquire.

Personally, I think a woman who holds interests in firearms, or enjoys shooting is SEXY! Its just a hobby like any other hobby.

Atlantya,

Competitive shooting is your hobby. Just treat it like that.

"So what are your interests, Atlantya?"

"Hiking, reading, competitive riflery, skiing, and bird watching. What's yours?"

If you make an issue of it or treat it like a landmine, it sends off a danger signal to the guy. However, I wouldn't start or end your list of hobbies with it.

---

As for the original question, it depends on how it is brought up. If it brought up like the above, that's all cool with me. On the other hand, if it is brought up...

"I own a gun for protection. No one messes with me. I can defend myself."

That is an actual quote from a woman that I never dated again. I tried to end the date as soon as possible. Unfortunately, not before she showed me her gun and that it was loaded. It didn't even have the safety on!

As for a gun for personal protection, I would wonder why on Earth is she even telling me about it. You keep that quiet. It is none of my business. It should only be my business if I need to know. For example, one time I was helping a date get ready and helping her search for a small purse in the house. She saw me sweeping my hand on the top closet shelf. "Careful, I have a gun up there." Nothing more was said or needed to be said. I didn't freak but just kept that in mind.

I've opened dresser drawers when women have asked me to get something from the dresser and found a gun in them. I didn't bat an eye and just went on searching. No, no woman ever asked, "Would you please bring me my gun from the dresser?"

I bring up the subjects of guns as soon as possible since hunting and competitive shooting is somethings I like. I also work in a sporting goods store and sell guns. If they bother her it won't work anyway so why waste my time.

I have taught many ladies how to handle firearms but they were all married and with their kids at scout camp unfortunately. I hope to find one who shares my hobbies.

In Minnesota it is not that unusual to find the number of women involved in the shooting sport increasing since schools close for the opening day og hunting and some take a fall break for the whole week.

I was taught at a young age how to handle and respect a firearm. No I don't have one in my house, but my dad is a gun nut and it's one of the things I enjoy with him, and I can outshoot him too!!! Knowing how to shoot for sport is one thing, carrying a gun around for protection, not my thing...JMHO

Since I live in the UK I would be horrified as our laws do not allow people to own a gun without a good reason.

I live in Australia and really don't understand the need for guns. We have shooters (the roo population here needs culling at times) but other than professionals/farmers... I just can't understand the need for it. I'd be horrified if my partner had a gun too.

Ok.. Couple (or three)of counter questions? 1) What difference is it if a WOMAN has a GUN and a MAN with a GUN? You shouldn't put gender on gun ownership. 2) How did you know she had a GUN? 3)Did you do something to make her have the need to show you her weapon?

Ok, now, for those of you who say NO WAY, NO GUNS, have you considered that HER gun is probably legal and she has training and knows about safety. That is a lot better than the Saturday Night Special that the hoodlum or drug dealer on the corner.

I grew up around guns and still have several. I like to shoot for sport...skeet, trap, target... Not into hunting, but only because I don't care for game meat. As for hunters having guns, shooting animals for meat, and taking it home, that is much more humane than the slaughter houses that provide the meat for the masses.

My last girlfriend had a hand gun and it really didn't bother me. She kept it locked, unloaded, and the ammunition in a separate location. I understood her reason as she was thinking about entering law enforcement at one point. She had also been living alone as a single woman for many years and liked the feeling of having protection.
That said, no way would I be with a woman who didn't take the same safety precautions. I have kids and I don't want any guns stored out in the open, or with ammunition near or in them.

To the posts about home security, I'm trying to figure out how you will get to your gun, get it out of the cabinet or the trigger lock off, and load your weapon in time to defend yourself against someone breaking down your door. Assuming you are storing your gun in a safe manner. Just doesn't make sense to me.

As for a female clone carrying a gun, it would depend on the reason. Off duty cop, sure. Public figure or maybe had death threats or a stalker? Sure. Likes feeling the warmth of her weapon and the smell of hot lead? I'm running the other way!!!!
