Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

The reason that most cops dislike IAD cops is that if/when they are accused of wrong-doing, they are considered GUILTY until proven innocent and there is always a faint doubt even if there is no proof in a situation. When you're investigated you're never totally cleared, there's just not enough proof to convict you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OH what a coincident, you coppers pick up people and automatically think there are guilty instead of innocent UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW. but your soupose to be inocent till proven guilty, thats why they lock you up in jai,or make you bail.YOU coppers are all the same everyone i have meet, you lie that's all you do. why do you think people hate you , it is ok for the pork to lie but gees if the alleged suspect lied god have mercies on him. then it goes to trial and the pork sits there and all he can say POLICE TACTIC. LOL AND LOOK LIKE A RETARD
OR how bout the cuzzin getting transported its ok for the pork to drive OVER 85 MILES AN HOUR wit him in the back ,but if i did it that would be wrong. this was verified by others i know that have been transported by coppers too.
or how bout when my family would need there help for something and them porkers would not do nothing cuz they did not see it? but then if my family was accused of sumtin like my nephew getting jumped in this white town and the white kids did not get shit but my nephew has to go to court and so do a few other boys from the rez? but they were the ones that were jumped and knocked out. yeah you pokies have my vote and respect. yeah NOT.
but don't worry your all hated the same so there should not be any WORRY OF favoritism
YOUR TOPIC SAYS -->Why do so many people seem to hate cops? TAKE THE SEEM OUT. yeah alot of use dislike ya. just dinks.

I do not care for cops there very unresonable and they are all the same out one nasty ol mould ..........i am thankful for my freedom of speech.

There is bad and good in all groups. What cops deal with day to day I have a lot of respect for them. When its your loved one or friend there helping I don't think you would hate them at that point of time.

FOR "NocturnalPrincess": In regards to the officer you know of that was allowed to resign, rather then face charges for theft. . . . well my department had one of those @ssholes too. The guy was a person who came to my department highly recommended. He had all kinds of training/skills and so forth in his resume, and appeared to be very impressive. My former Captain hired him, and my former Captain lived to regret it! This officer was just plain nuts. He did things that you would never expect a seasoned officer to do. I won't list them all here, as doing so would simply fuel the fire, so to speak, of disparaging remarks of police. I will say that his eventual demise (firing from the department), that he and only he was responsible for. He is a man, that in my opinion, is a walking time bomb.

And I will say here for all to see, that I expected him to face charges, and I was absolutely pissed he didn't. The only reason he didn't, was because his father was an officer of another nearby department, and my Captain and that officer were friends. Here's another thing. I realized that the guy was a bad officer while we were on duty together, and saw him doing something wrong. I confronted him on it, and he attempted to talk his way out of it. He was a very convincing person. He had a gift in his abilities in that, if you saw him stealing, he'd find a way to tell you he wasn't actually stealing anything, that he was in fact, attempting to prevent it's loss by taking custody for safe keeping.

I told my Captain that this guy was a wrong guy. Told him that this officer should have a mental examination. He told me that he didn't see anything I was telling him. Well, he certainly saw it later. It was almost too funny the way this guy ended his career, by pulling his weapon on another city employee, in full view of other city employees, nearby residents, and best yet, my former Captain. But again, I was really pissed that guy didn't face any charges. When it comes to officers like this. . . . officers like the ones in Chicago that beat four other people up, and one that beat up a barmaid in a drunkin stupor, I have to say. . . it makes me sick. Is it any wonder then, that people have a terrible out look on cops??? I can honestly say that I know some I wouldn't trust in any respect. And I wonder how they got hired in the first place. I don't tell people that I'm a retired cop. I've told people that before, and saw the expression on their faces immediately after doing so. The only reason I say it here is, that I will never see/meet most of you people.

Know this folks. For every bad cop I met, I met dozens that were sincerely attempting to do their jobs to the very best of their abilities.

I don't like cop's much but I don't suppose they can help that. They seem to be bully's on the highway. It's a job and somebody needs to do it. Their attitude hurts my feelings, especially when they talk ugly to me for no reason.

rtdhrny,
Thanks for sharing.
Somehow, people that sport prison tattoos and teardrops (which purportedly represent every person that they have killed) seem to resent being recognized by cops.
I had In-Service Training last week, which is an annual requirement in which we update our skills and requalify with our weapons. If you had told me twenty years ago that I would be proficient with a shotgun, I would have told you that you are out of your mind!
That is where I saw the "real" Columbine tapes. Since there is no time to wait for SWAT, they now want Basic Patrol to be prepared to enter and hunt down the killers. Y'all LOVE the cops then, dontcha, when we risk not going home to save the lives of you and/or your families? Yes, this is the job we took on, so for the minority of @ssholes, it seems unfair to condemn the whole lot of us.
The house next door to me is filledl of criminals, but I have opted for peaceful co-existance in lieu of a better solution, though many people on the street complain about them to me. Last week, the oldest kid knocked on my door and said that his uncle needed to call the police on someone but was concerned because he had warrants himself, and they wanted to know if the uncle with warrants would be arrested if the police were called. Go figure?About a month or so ago, my former neighbor called me. His car had broken down on the freeway and a certain sergeant happened to be passing by, and the weather was just brutal. He had Ken get into his car (front seat) and helped him out with a tow, securing his safety and warmth until the situation was resolved. Ken called me to see if I could find out his home address, to send him a fruit basket. I got in touch with that officer, who said that it was totally unnecessary to thank him but gave up his home address for his friend, suggesting a charitable donation on his behalf instead.
Ironically, I met this sergeant at in-service training last week, and when we got to talking, he remembered me because of my unique name. Really. really nice man!

A few weeks ago, en route to a report assignement, at the freeway exit ramp, I stumbled upon a disabled motorist. It turns out that she had run out of gas, and for the record, especially during inclement weather, please do not allow yourselves to get below a quarter of a tank.
I notified our radio dispatcher, turned on my pretty overhead lights, and stayed behind her to make sure no one crashed into her. Thinking about what Ken had told me, I approached her car in the brutal weather, and I asked if she had any heat in her car. She waited with me, in the front seat of my toasty warm car, while we waited for her friend to deliver some gas.
She told me that she had previously had a bad opinion of cops, until then.
I followed them to the gas station, which ironically was where I was headed before diverting my attention to her.
Maybe I am the exception, I don't know, because I am just me and who I am.
It is probably a bad thing when one's name is run across radio, and everyone working knows who you are and where you live, and it is no wonder that someone like that would hate the cops!

I don't hate cops and in fact have respect for them. Two of my co-workers are married to cops. They do have demanding and dangerous jobs. If I'm in a dangerous area, I feel safer when they are there. I don't feel safe in my city downtown at night, and wish there were more foot patrol cops. When I'm driving though downtown at night I make sure all my doors are locked.

One thing I don't like is that there is a double standard. I've heard this from one of my co-workers and other people who are friends of cops. Cops who are off duty and their spouses/significant others can break the traffic rules (speeding, drinking and driving etc.) and get let off in any city just by showing their badge. In the case of their significant others, they just have to say that their significant other is a cop and they get let off. This is not fair. When cops are on duty, speeding is part of the job when trying to catch offenders and criminals, but when they are off duty and speeding home from the cottage and don't get penalized, that is unfair. This means that cops and their spouses have perfect driving records and "have a lisence to speed" as they will never receive a ticket, while the rest of us have to abide by the traffic laws. It seems the only way a cop will get charged for driving infractions is if they cause an accident involving another vehicle or pedestrian. Sometimes you do read about these things in the paper.

There's double standard's in alot of areas. Even though we have public health care, politicians get first rate treatment and so do athletes and other rich people. What can I say, life's not always fair.

I have a lot of respect for cops - they put their lives on the line every day to protect us. But then, I'm not a criminal so I have no reason to dislike them as a group. Yes, there are some bad ones, but there are bad apples in every group. Some ministers and priests are child molesters, but that doesn't mean they all are.

I dont hate cops either ...but I do question some of the police officers who abuse their authority!

I was once pulled over by a cop late at night, and was asked to step out of my car. I did as I was told, and as I did, I asked what I was being stopped for, as I knew I wasnt speeding, or hadnt commited any offense. He said that he `just felt like it’ and thought he’d ’stop the spoiled girl who probably had her daddy buy her this car she was driving’ and then proceeded to check the inside of my car, underneath my seats, the contents of my trunk, then he spot checked me, while I was hands down on my vehicle, for any weapons. All this and I hadnt done anything wrong! This young man was apparently abusing his authority and thought that his intimidation tactic was quite charming, as I stood there shocked and scared to death. He then laughed and told me to get back in my car...and proceed with caution. I asked him for his ID or badge number and I told him that I will be reporting him for his abuse of authority.

It was reported but was never addressed by the department, to my disappointment. Their reasoning was that there was a conflict of story reported by the officer himself, and that they will repremand him as needed. I was furious but was going through a lot back then and let it go. I just must trust that KARMA will rear its head...and he will get his some way some day. What do people do in situations likes that? If i had the fight in me back then as I do now, beleive me I would have taken it further! you would have heard about me on the evening news! Thats for d!@# sure!

As a former cop, I have to admit that the usual pratice is to let other officers/family, and some friends slide on driving offenses. I didn't know that the standard existed (believe this or not) until I just happened to stop a car for speed, and the driver idenitified himself to me as a cop. His wife was sitting next to him, and she told me that she had "begged him to slow down, and he wouldn't". I asked him if that was true, and he laughed and said, "ya, so what"? I wrote that guy a citation, and he blew his top. His wife was just as happy as a person could be, if she'd won the lottery! He told me I must be a rookie (I'd been on the job for approximately six months, but I didn't tell him that) and then he explained that cops don't write other cops. He told me he'd get even, and made other "promises". I told him to have a good day, and left him. He went to my department and complained, immediately afterward. It got him nowhere, and he bacame even angrier. We almost had to arrest the guy for disorderly conduct. He finally left, and he was really pissed at this wife too. He finally paid for his ticket, and that was that. He was one seriously stupid @sshole!! After this incident, I usually gave a lot of people breaks for various reasons.

Some were because I could tell the person just seemed to need a break. Not because they were someone special, but you could tell that things just weren't going well for them that day for whatever reason. I almost never wrote a guy/female that was in the military. Breaks for doctors/nurses were common. But for the most part, I'd look for a reason to give a person a break. See, my department didn't have a "quota". We didn't have to write anyone if we didn't want to. I wrote the fewest, but I made a lot of stops. I always felt that if you gave a person a warning, while educating the public about why they should slow down, then my job was done. I'll never forget stopping this female for speed one December morning. I told her that she was driving in the Cuyahoga Valley, and it was loaded with deer. She commenced to tell me she drove thru the valley daily, and never once saw any deer. As if on cue, six deer, not more then five hundred feet ahead of us crossed the road. I said to her, take a look at them. She said to me "how'd you do that?"

Do ya think.......? See I told you (some cops) talk mean for no reason. When they talk mean for no reason I have little respect for them. I remember one time when a cop stopped my daddy for making a U turn at an unfamiliar location. He talked ugly to him for this and it hurt me to see him disrespect my daddy that way. My daddy was usually a careful driver. He was just lost and needed to stop for directions.
The year of my divorce I got 3 speeding tickets and almost lost my license. The same cop who sat at the same location gave me two of them. This was one of the worst years of my life. I haven't had a speeding ticket in almost 11 years.

Most cops are power trippers. They are rude and not very friendly or approachable at all. some try to make you feel stupid, very bad etc. they are not encouraging. some are stiff sh*ts.
the ones i have dealt with have been very unprofessional and i know of someone who didnt get help with being abused because the cops didnt think she had good enough or enough evidence as if she should have been sexuall abused a whole lot worse. so rediculous.

I used to have a friend who was in the RCMP.............she had so many tickets and never asked for a break. But then, she really believed in her job.
About 3 years ago; when my car broke down; i was walking to the truck scales to use the phone; when a gorgeous silver sports car stopped beside me. Thinking it was some jerk trying to pick me up; I was going to keep walking. he told me he was RCMP on the way to work; and asked if that was my car way back on the highway. I looked closer, recognised him from an accident I worked as a flagger; and told him yes. He gave me a ride back to my car; let me use his cell phone; and then checked back later when he was in his patrol car to see if the tow truck had showed up. Thats another RCMP that believed that he was a cop even when he wasn't working. Too bad there wasn't more like that!

Because they will set up and ambush anybody even without identifying themselves. There are times when you need them. There are some in my family. But I've seen better morals from so-called criminals than I have from some of them.

They perceive cops to be threats because that's wht they're taught.

If I had a nickel for every time a mother said to her child, "you better be good, or that police officer will arrest you." That statement makes a profoud and lasting impression on a kid.

There is a huge difference between a "COP" and a "Police Officer" A "Cop" is the one with the "holier than thou" attitude and a "Police Officer" handles themselves in a "Professional" manner.

It is common that people belive that the Police are there to protect us when in reality their job is to enforce the governments will upon the people. I think most of the Older police officers have an understanding of their jobs while the young ones seem to believe they are the "be all and end all" citizens of society.

May I tell you about last night at work? Okay, then I will!
I began my shift by securing my crummy police car with 103,000+ miles, and the driver's window motor has been slowly dying for the last 6 months, but they refuse to fix it. I learned to not use the window, and anytime anyone would try to flag me down, I had to open the door and explain to them that the window didn't work, though repair had been requested half a dozen times.
We were without a chopper for a few years and finally reinstated the chopper last fall, which is instrumental and profoundly beneficial in pursuit of suspects, especially at night because of the infared lights. We needed chopper, and of course it was unavailable, after males bailed from a car and shots were fired at officers. Often, we need the Kennels truck for dangerous pit bulls, but the Kennels are not available either, due to budget cuts, and there were a few pit bull dog calls last night too.
Anyway, we have had a slew of rain in this region of late. I thought the window was cracked because a smoker had used "my" car, which may or may not be accurate. The motor finally completely died, so rain or no rain, the window was cracked three inches. I was going to order it for service at the end of my shift.
I was on my way to assist with a call for a male shot, which usually create chaotic scenes, but the suspects had already fled. On my way there, a car blasted through the red light right in front of me. My personal criteria for giving out traffic tickets (driving is a privilege and not a right!) is as follows:
If you caused an accident, I cite, to afford the other driver greater protection in litigation;
If you do not have a license then you have no business driving;
If you do not have insurance, then if you hit someone and they have to pay their dedcutible, then that is no different from stealing outright from them;
If you are a complete A$$hole, well, I am afraid you are probably going to get a ticket.
I had not written a ticket since last September!
I approached the vehicle, and this seventeen year-old man immediately confessed to not having a license nor insurance. Neither he nor his friend was wearing their seatbelts. But, still I was very impressed with this young man for his honesty, his courtesy, and I really felt bad for having to write him.
I did not write him for seat belt, and I did not tow the car. I just wrote him for the traffic offense which led to the discover that he did not have a license, for which I also wrote him.. He was bummed for getting the ticket, of course, but recognized that things could have been a lot worse. Had he been discourteous, I would have most likely towed the car. He was actually a really decent kid, and I wrote in the notes section that he had been extremely courteous, and told him if I go to court that I will ask them to give him some consideration because of his good character. I know this sounds like a small thing, but he is 17 and in the 11th grade instead of the 9th grade and was articulate, and that is a rarity in the area in which I patrol. I told this kid that I wished he had a license, because then I would have simply warned him to be more careful, but he knew he had no business driving.

After I wrote the tickets, the steering went out in my luxury City equipment, and I barely made it back to the Station. Fortunately, I was around the corner from the police station, and there was no traffic! It was a long short ride. For the record, if I had encountered a citizen with similar vehicle troubles, I would have offered to assiste them, follow them, and certainly not cite them.

The next assignment I went on was for a 14 year-old habitual female runaway that just got off probation for being unruly. After I finished the information for that report, the battery on my portable radio died, that is supposed to last for an entire shift. This girl is already on the fast track to nowhere. She had been AWOL for two days before her parents reported her, thinking that she was just taking a night out to party.

The two young men in the car thanked me, because they knew they got caught not doing right.

I know a lot of people do not like cops, but you have to establish boundaries to protect the public safety and we all want to go home at the end of our shifts.

@NocturnalPrincess - How many police officers look like you and handle snakes and are not borderline bully/@sshole mentality? BTW: Yeah, funding is a bitch... that sucks. But, you're either driving a chevy impala or a crown vic I'm assuming so those cars are made to last.

There are only a few cops that I know of around here that are actually not jerks on the job (and cops can be jerks, because of the authority and power they have. Not to mention attitudes vary from state to state). I would also like to state I don't get into trouble. I'm not a drinker, nor a habitual drug user, or a rabble rouser.

The worst thing on my record is one speeding ticket from a few years ago. I was also cited for no insurance the better part of a year ago (which is a misdemeanor in this state, which is retarded. But, because I made the judge laugh I got it taken off my record, that's right folks I'm the motherf***ing giggleparts)

Point made.

the giggleparts - Cops speed on (not in pursuit or going responding to anything) and off duty, so I can too. Hell, I went to a movie recently with my brother and a few of his friends (one of which was a cop) and he and my brother were racing on the road after the movie.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

giggleparts,
I have received two parking meter violations recently which I paid, and got caught by a speeding camera~~busted! I am stalling on paying the latter to wait for the outcome of the litigation on the cameras. Whoops!
The down side of having platinum hair is that I am really, really held to a higher standard! If I do anything wrong, I am most assuredly caught!
Last night, while I was dealing with the two males in the vehicle, issuing a citation, and determining what to do, I had a man approach me about an old crime for which he wanted a go-nowhere report. I am fortunate that these were two nice young men, because I was working alone.
I told him I would do his report when I was finished with the young men. He kept insisting on his report, when he had never even called the police, which created a safety hazard for me, because we cannot tell the good people from the bad people, and I already was dealing with the two young men in the car who had suspiciously pulled into the driveway of a boarded up house..
He got irritated with having to wait, but I am planning on going home at the end of my shift! He came up to me a last time and was clearly irritated, "Are you going to do my report or NOT???!!!"
Furthermore, I am really terrible at sugarcoating things. The latest thing is for crackheads and heroin addicts to kick in doors of vacant houses and steal all of the copper piping, to sell to unscrupoulous scrap yards. He bought some foreclosed property, was the rightful owner, and someone kicked in his door and stole the copper. I asked him if he had insurance, because the property is not traceable and an insurance claim would be the only legitimate reason for any police report. He stated that he had not procured insurance yet, but he wanted the police report so that the bank would refund a portion of his purchase price, even though the theft occurred after his purchase.. I was perfectly willing to do his go nowhere report for him, but not with two suspects on scene that I had to by myself monitor.
"Sir, I told you I would do your report if you would like, but right now I am dealing with this situation!"
He went off in a huff, about five minutes before I would have been able to accomodate his go nowhere report request.
Finally, I know everyone thinks that a police report is what you are supposed to do when you are the victim of a crime. However, if you have a window smashed, no witnesses, and even if you think you know who did it but cannot prove it, are not filing an insurance claim, the Reality is that there will be no follow up, no one will ever be apprehended, and all that police report is, is a piece of paper to make you feel better, or else to P*SS you off because no one is going to follow up on a simple misdemeanor criminal damaging.
I told him the reality, that without insurance, a report would be of no benefit to him. I told him if he was the legal owner, the bank no longer had any legal responsibility for the property. He was still adament, so I told he who had flagged me down that I would be with him just as soon as I finished with my current situation.
Because of my platinum hair, I can probably be identified for a complaint by the latter male. To do a report for him upon demand would have meant to divert my attention entirely from the two young men I had pulled over, and I am going home at the end of my shift, so I told him he could wait or call for a car, which very well might have even been me!
Thank you for the back-handed compliments though! If you read my profile, you realize the only reason I chose to pose with the snake is because I have always been afraid of them.
Warmest wishes!

It wasn't backhanded.

The simple truth is; you have the more easy going cops and you have the not so easy going cops (this is not a reflection on how well they do their job, just their demeanor). Also, in many instances those who become cops have control/bully issues from back in high school that they carry on with them into that particular job(men more so than women). This isn't to say all are like that or have that problem, but a good number do. I know some people that went to my school around my age that became cops and they were not the kind of guys I would hang out with, mostly because of their horrible behavior towards who they perceived to be different and/or weak.

But, then you have the one guy who always helps out wherever he can and is great to talk to at the holiday station at 3 in the morning. It just depends on the person. All I'm saying is that what I've noticed is many of them are jerks. Does that mean that all of them are? No, of course not. Small towns around here are full of douche bag cops though and the worst of the bunch are the state troopers.

Part of the reason why cops have a bad rep in general is simply because they represent a limitation on personal freedom and they 'catch' people doing things... it's a psychological issue. I don't particularly trust anyone in authority and really, considering many people are sheep and just let things happen, it's no wonder I have that feeling. From the president all the way down to the city sweeper.... I have a healthy suspicion.

Understand, I'm not a shit starter or a 'problem person', so it's not like I have some kind of axe to grind. I guess I just call it like I see it. I would never state that all cops are douche bags... but, many are.

Again, I'm not trying to implicate/associate you in that group of douches NocturnalPrincess. I wish their were more female cops... mostly because I like women in uniform... But, then again, I like it when I see a woman holding a gun... especially an automatic weapon... a big one. I'm a sad and odd little monkey.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

I think it is an authority thing. Adults don't like being treated like kids when they get in trouble. Pulling them over and giving a ticket is like being told to put your nose in the corner.

I have never had a problem with the police and I think that it has to do with one thing? Don't Bullsh-t them. I have been the passenger to so man pull overs and just listened to the driver give a BS story. I think the police get a little too much of this and the associated hatred. No matter who you are, it can wear down on you.

Everytime I have been pulled over. I don't deny I was speeding, etc. I am polite, I don't raise an attitude because I got caught or pulled over. I roll down my window and put my hands on the wheel to make them feel safe. Doing this typically gets me out of a ticket. I think mostly because they see it as a relief to finally hear someone be nice and honest.

I have a friend or two that do the exact same thing and we never notice the problems that everyone claims to have.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

Right now at this very moment, I am completely hating cops myself!
I have been a cop for eleven years, and set my physical standards to that of which a man my age would have had to achieve. I was awarded Top Academic Overall, and was one of the challengers for Top Gun, which one of the men won
During the Academy, I was on the fringes because a guy (note I cannot call him a man because that is too much credit) spread rumors about me that many of the small minded people with whom I was in class bought into. I survived all of that nonsense.
Thanks to him, I was labelled a snitch and a walking sexual harassment lawsuit, because of my hair, my makeup, my figure and my sense of humor.
I have had to prove myself every step of the way.
I was talking earlier tonight with a friend of mine on the Job. He informed me that while I was away for a week at training, this 300 lb stinky SOB began telling everyone that before I got on the job he "heard" I was a callgirl. WTF???? I saw some things postted on the bulletin boards about me, but untio my friend enlightened me, I had no idea why.
I met this man less than four years ago, and explain how I went fro, bonafide prostitute to Top Academic in the Academy. He spread the story an all of these small minded twits bought into it! Fortunately I have at least one friend that told him he was full of shit, but that did not stop the fraternity!
The really sad part of this rant is that I am treated more civilly by the people I encounter on the outside than by my coworkers, and I think that is largely because I am very decent to people as a rule.
I have done my best to be a decent and honest officer, but right this minute I am agreeing with the majority that accuse them of being power hungry, greedy, immature, A$$hole control freaks!
Okay, are you all happy? There are a LOT of piece of shit self-serving police officers. Further, the brother of the one that began to spread false rumors about me let a suspect vehicle of a shooting drive right past him, and when confronted by a supervisor basically said that they had a gun so he was afraid.
I am a dope that embraced my oath to protect and serve, and if that means risking my life, well, it happens. Mostly, I try to help people find solutions.
These pieces of shit defamed my character, though I cannot prove it. The killing part is that the are all cowards, and except for my friend, no one would ever tell me the bullshit they are saying. Further, if confronted, all of them would absolutely deny it.
I am starting to recognize fully why so many appreciate what I do as a police officer...I work with a LOT of Major League A$$holes!
I wish I could find a way out, truly, but I need my medical benefits.

For "NocturnalPrincess": Well, I see you had a really outstanding day at work. So, you let them get to you. Quit that right now! Those that are the @ssholes, will eventually get theirs. What goes around, comes around. You know better then to let them bother you! You are bright, intelligent, and decent. Their job as they see it, is to get under your skin. Glad you chose this venue to vent! Don't ever let them see what they've done, then they've won. And did I read that write? What you wrote about a police officer who was " afraid of stopping suspects because they had a gun"? Who the heck hired that guy??? How did he pass the physic examination?

I noted that they were saying you were once a "Call Girl"? Well, that follows what I'm thinking why they don't like you. Look in the mirror, and you're gonna see a rather attractive female, who carries a gun. Those guys, like them or not, see a pretty lady, who they'd like to sleep with. They know that isn't gonna happen, so they act like children who can't have their way, and throw a trantrum. Unfortunately, it's directed at you, because you are the object of their affection, that they can't have! Think about it for a minute. Were you a less attractive woman, would they even pay attention to you? Aren't there other women on your department? Are they as pretty as you? Do they also receive the "attention" from the guys that you do? If they aren't, then it's likely they either have a boyfriend, or they're sleeping with someone in the department. Either way, they're spoken for. You on the other hand, hold yourself to higher standards, of which, they don't qaulify, and they recognize it and resent it.

As for finding a way out. . . . the door is there, you have but only to walk thru it. I don't recommend it though. Then you will have let them win, and the city will be without a decent police officer.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

rtdhrny,
I was perfectly seething when I wrote my previous post!
I do not have enough testosterone to understand the adolescent mentality of many of the men with whom I work.
The things that keep me on my job are job security, benefits, and all of the thank yous I get from the citizens on the outside.
One woman that I work with, she barely talks to me. However, she is an animal lover, and always approaches me warmly when she is trying to find a home for a stray, homeless animal. Ironic, that any other time I try to initiate any friendly conversation she blows me off. She only talks to me when she is trying to use me.
Maybe they have won, because I am tired of my blood pressure rising every year, just because I always try to do the right thing. I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to quit this job. As I said, the thank yous from the outside keep me going. Also, I really need the benefits!!!
I need the benefits, and I am still not sure whether or not to get vested or to take the money and run. Every day of my life I contemplate my options. I am not afraid of the dangers, per se, because they come with the territory.
Regarding the officer that was driving a two man car and refused to pursue the shooting suspect vehicle, this is true: He told the Sarge, "They had a gun, and that is dangerous!" DUH! Yah think???
Again, I am fortunate, as a one-person, primarily a report car, I have a lot of discretion. I made the traffic stop the other night because it was a blatant red light violation right in front of me. iIf this young man had had a license, I would have warned him. However, when one drives without a license and insurance (driving is a privilege and not a right) they are potentially jeopardizing other drivers on the roadway. What is the difference between stealing $500 from another, or wrecking their vehicle where they have to pay the deductible to get it fixed. Intent may not have been there, but the end result to the Victim is the same.
I was so ticked off that I took a mental health day from work, had a glass of wine, and pulled the covers over my head, cried if you must know, and went to bed.
I woke up with revenge on my mind!!!
I cannot prove defamation of character, so I am lost there. I do not have enough testosterone to relish in the games the fraternity plays, but I am on the sidelines.
I told my friend that I had a couple of things stored on my computer...that I am too nice to actually attack another with who is sensitive about his weight. But I am really p*ssed, too!
I told my friend that I would print out these things and he could do with them whatever he saw fit.
I hate to hurt anybody, but again WTF??? Paybacks are a biotch! Pesonally, I would not try to hurt another in this way, because I could imagine how much I would hurt myself, which is about as much as I hurt right now.
If anyone wants a preview of the paybacks, feel free to email me, and I will send the downloads to your email.
It is really disheartening when you are a team player and would do almost anything for anybody, to learn that they are making stuff up about you, and for what reason?
Right now, I am a cop and I am hating a majority of cops! But don't hate me, please!
