| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/10/2007 9:34:07 PM | | "Patrol Sgt": Dominoes huh? Well, you'd better be getting enough for Nocturnal Princess and I, ok? Seabiscuit or whatever, can order his own. After all, we wouldn't want to disappoint him, now would we? | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/10/2007 9:36:02 PM | I have to throw in this off topic question here. I live in the US, and would like to know is it illegal to flirt and tell a cop you think he is cute, while he is on the job? | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/10/2007 11:02:26 PM | Flirting is not a crime. I think it is actually kind of funny when a stripper gets pulled over and tries to get out of a ticket by flashing her hooters, or her look of disappointment when I am the one that approaches the window and asks for the license.. Dominoes reminded me of the time I pulled over a guy driving without a license that was coming back from an emergency run to Pizza Hut. I told him that Pizza Hut delivers, and without a license he has no business on the road, and without insurance the vehicle has no business on the road. It turns out he had a traffic warrant in an adjacent jurisdiction. If he was driving without a license then he should not have blasted through that red light! I wound up not towing their car, because the young man and the girl were respectful. I asked him about his warrant. He missed his court date, because....blah, blah, blah. Overall, they were nice kids. I pulled him over for his driving, so when he had no license a citation had to be issued. If they had caused an accident, I would have cited and towed the car. I have been to so many accidents! I do not think I was a jerk with them. His girlfriend was pregnant, and he was enough of a man to be taking responsibility. Towing that car would have just taken money away from that baby's future. He wasn't drunk or stoned, they were just hungry. If you are driving without a license, then use your blinkers, don't change course, don't get in an accident, stop at YELLOW lights, and then you do not give the police PC to pull you over. It is not Rocket Science! | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/12/2007 8:50:41 PM | Patrol Sgt: You are just too funny man! So, did Seabiscuit proposition you? I wouldn't be surprised if he did, you can always tell. You disappointed me dude! You failed to bribe the cops stopping you!! Thank God you were able to remember to lie while on the stand! Now don't bogard that pizza, and pass the pepper seeds!.
Nocturnal Princess is correct again, not a sin or against the law to flirt with a police officer. And as Patrol Sgt related, an officer may give a ticket, or he may not, depending on the officer. The very first person I ever stopped was some nurse on her way to work. She hiked up her skirt, unbuttoned her blouse, and put the big smile on for me. She was doing soooooo well, until she told me she'd "do absolutely anything not to get a ticket". I gave her a ticket, because I felt I might be being tested by my department, and because I was a little worried that she was trouble waiting to happen. She wasn't happy to say the least.
Patrol Sgt, you keep up the good work, remember to lie your ass off on everything, and don't forget to set the alarm clock when taking the nap.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 4:23:45 AM | When I was in college in Eugene, Oregon, I spent two years working in banquets at the Hilton to pay the bills. One day we had pretty much the entire Eugene police department in for some kind of awards banquet. Now this is supposed to be a nice, light hearted affair with OFF DUTY cops. I can honestly say, without a doubt, that these cops as a group were the rudest, least thankful, most demanding, most condescending group of people to come through those doors in the entire time I worked there. Even the Mason wives were better behaved. Now this was a classy establishment. We were all required to wear tuxes and carry ourselves with a degree of professionalism and decorum, and treat the customers well. It's not like we were criminals, but they sure treated us like we were.
I don't care if they see a lot of shit in the course of their jobs, not everyone is a meth addict, gang member, or thief. When cops learn that they can't treat law abiding, hard working people like common criminals my respect for them will improve.
I will admit, the Eugene police department does seem to be worst than most. Maybe it comes from hiring nothing but ex-military types.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 4:49:23 AM | Its always the same old rule with the police - guilty until proven innocent, especially in England.
Always on the ball for a slightly over the speed limit motorist but can take 3 days to turn up for a burglery....

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 12:24:22 PM | Patrol Sarge!!!!!!!!! ~~Bona Dea, yes, yes, yes, we have heard your comment's about the Police many times. But have you noticed, you repeat the same thing over and over again. It's called originality, honey!! | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 2:37:36 PM | Anyone remember about 10-15 years ago a large group of NY city cops went to Washington D.C. for some kind of cop fest and all that sh!t broke out and made national news?
They ended up getting stinking drunk and running around the hotel naked and goin outside and shooting their guns in the air amongst a bunch of other lude and crude behavior. Now thats being "professional". But being cops, only a couple got charged with anything, go figure.
Anybody else ever notice on those criminal shows how cops react when someone gets found not guilty or worse, gets out of prison because of a wrongful conviction? The cop is the only person that will always say that the person WAS guilty. I mean you could have a dude in prison for rape on circumstantial evidence, but then a DNA test shows he was NOT the guy, so they let him out of prison and say ooops, sorry. The cop will still sit there and swear that he was the right guy.
If you look at how many times in any given day that a cop lies while doing their job (remember the Supreme Court says it's AOK for cops to lie) it's easy to see that after years of this lying that it just bleeds over into all aspects of their life.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 6:07:02 PM | ptrl Sgt So you are saying it is okay to tell a cop, while on duty, that he is cute? Then you said he will give me a warning, warning about what? Because I have seen one a couple of times, and he was all I could think about that day. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 9:26:53 PM | I can not believe this thread is still going. So I will do my part to keep it going.
I dont hate cops. I just dont like some of the things they do. (give tickets out for the same laws they break. One of my pet peeves)
But what can really get my goat is when a police officer is killed. They drop everything and go after the killer. I'm not against that but a lot of innocent people are murdered every day but dont get the same kind of action. Unless it hit the news wires all over the country.
Sometimes I get a call from a charity for police wanting me to donate to fallen police officers families. I'm thinking, they know what they are getting into when they join the force. How are their lives more important then mine or Joe's from across the street? Dont they have life insurance like the rest of us?

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 10:37:34 PM | Most cops become a cop because they want to just have the power. They want the gun and the badge. They want the power that comes with the job. They got something to prove, no matter how small. They had no other place to go. Most are wannabees. They never fit into any other place in society so they may as well be a cop.
Only a few people actually decide to be a cop because they want to change the system.
i just wish...ther was a cop on here that could make a sentence...besides...writing like a 6th grader or sumone...on the internet...
if u dont like me...or my profession....im gonna do my job to the best of my abilities...and leave it at that.
No, you do not have to beg or plead for people to find respect for you. If you claim to be a professional, then you must live as a professional. But when the majority of people out here (yes the MAJORITY) see you being a fool and acting as such, what are they supposed to think?

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 11:20:56 PM | There was a dangerous criminal on the streets and our Department was too cheap (didn't want to pay for a SWAT call-up) last August. He had raped a woman amongst other things. His name is Wilson Santiago. AJ was the nicest guy in the world and had an infant at home, that had barely survived through months of hard times. He volunteered to ram in the door, since there was no SWAT with the superior body armor. They knocked on the door, and Wilson shot right through the door and one of the bullets pierced AJ right through his heart, went just above his body armor. Officers shuttled AJ to the hospital withing two or three minutes, but he was dead. I hate my Department for this! SWAT should have been there, with their specialized training. I went out and bought diapers and formula for the slain officer. AJ was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, but if you were doing wrong, he would run you down and catch you. So, how dare you criticize officers slain in the line of duty!!!! AJ was trying to protect people from the bad people, and your words sicken me!!!!!!!! | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/13/2007 11:28:03 PM | | i do think thats its such a profession that represents power that it could be easy for some cops to let that go to theyre heads and abuse theyre power.wich i guess probably does happen with some(not all).ive seen it before too.cops just asking questions to someone on the street and being rude and agressive even when they didnt have reasons to be.maybe thats why some people hate cops just cause of thoses ones.but cops do risk theyre lives to protect us and u have to admire that.so people shouldnt hate cops just cause they just met some bad ones before. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/14/2007 12:40:23 AM | You got a problem Mirandadriane with me posting my opinions? Im so sorry sweetheart I thought it was a forum for discussion on why people hate the police.
I dont believe I mentioned having to wait for the police to turn up to a burglery for 3 days before? Because thats exactly what happened to my neighbour. And frankly if you have a problem with me putting that point across - you know what you can do!

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/14/2007 1:27:41 AM | bona dea, As a report car with no suspect on scene reports are what I do, quite a bit. Depending on personnel and activity of crime, you are lower on the prioriity scale when there are shootings and stabbings, and so on. But I completely understand your position, because/and in order to catch the criminal one should not touch anything as much as possible. Three days seems a little bit unreasonable to me to leave things untouched for that long, and maybe they need more officers, and we ALL do. However, if there are fifty people fighting, all of us respond to that, and you have to wait a little bit longer. If there is a person threatening with a knife or a gun, our attention will be diverted. Many times on the radio I have told our dispatcher that I can assist, and they told me to respond to my other assignments because they called another car off there lunch break. If there is a goo break-in and we need to wait for SIU for prints, they often call a one-person car to wait, for the only car working within six Districts to process the scene, and the one person car will wait so the two person car can get back on the road to handle other assignments. So, now you have to wait a little bit longer.
The sqeaky wheel gets the oil and it is sad if your jurisdiction doesn't even have the man power to respond within three days. On the other hand, during your eternity of waiting, during the moments you stepped out, they may have responded, and said they got no response.
I am going to have to stay on the fence here!

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/14/2007 1:51:17 AM | | Most of those who dislike cops(myself included), have had encounters with bad cops. Now I have learned that not all cops are bad, but that a lot of cops out there aren't good. I appreciate the fact that most of them do their jobs properly, and do make our society better as a whole, but there are some, who either just don't care, or go on power trips when given a badge and gun. These are the cops that lots of us see. For others who dislike cops, it's because they got busted for some sh*t that they did, and they didn't like how they were treated. Those people should learn to obey the law so that they don't have to deal with that. However, there are instances, where cops do arrest the wrong person(they're human too), and treat innocent people, as criminals without first being absolutely certain that they've got the right person. This, is understandably upsetting, and many people don't see it the way I do, so they take it very personally, and lose faith in the police. Still others, have absolutely no reason to hate them, but are conditioned by influential people in their lives, to fear or hate them. Uncle Jimmy(the one nobody keeps in touch with), who is in and out of jail on assaults, and petty crimes, might tell his nephew a few stories about the fuzz at a family reunion. If the kid, for some reason beyond my understanding, looks up to Uncle Jimmy, then he'll take those stories to heart, and believe every word until he finds out the truth for himself. Could take a community service officer at school when he's 6, or it could take a cop saving his life after a car wreck at 35. Might never happen, but the kid will believe the only thing he knows about them, until it's proven to be false. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 8/14/2007 10:03:00 AM | I think it has to do with a break in trust. We are told as children that the police are our friends and that is who you go to when you need help. Cops are basically elevated to hero status in children's minds. A hero should be free of any prejudices and help anyone regardless of their faith, culture, race, income level, etc. Before a child reaches their teens that hero image is usually shattered by an encounter with a prejudice cop that treats them or their parent(s) like crap. A person, especially a child can sense distain. So when a person who is supposed to help you hates you or your mother already based on what he/she has experienced in their profession the trust is gone. I realize police men/women are humans too but I feel they should be above prejudice. There should be intense sensitivity training before becoming a cop and alot of therapy and counselling services available to police who begin to feel prejudices starting to form. Every new call a police is called to should be considered a new call without any hatefilled attitudes. I know this is hard to do when faced with similar repetitive calls but it can be done. Where there is a will there's a way. I would give money off my paycheque if it meant police would have access to superior psychological services that can reverse the hate that begins to saturate them. I also believe prejudice in the police force accounts for the high suicide rates in this profession. It is impossible spiritually speaking to prejudge someone without that hate coming back on you. Because to hate another is really at the basic level self hatred. So I feel sorry for the police men/women who started out with a sincere desire to help, protect, and save people and have had their hearts tainted by their experiences. I would give a few more dollars to see that the people that started out with a good heart remain that way because if there was more trust between the police and the community I belive there would be less crime. More solved cases, more community support, feeling more appreciated, respect from the people out of love and not fear. Really if we could somehow eradicate the prejudice and hate filled attitudes that can affect police men/women it would be a win-win situation for both the police and the community. And the police would find themselves being treated like a hero instead of a villain. | |
