Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

mirandarains got a point....cop haters dont have basis for there claims...they just hate to hate...usually based on one bad encounter...and judge every badge cuz of it....so they shoot off there mouths and insult...never takin the time to know any of us....and three days to show up for a burglury...hmmm...sounds a lil stretched in my opinion...never heard of that.
predudice? maybe sumtimes...not in this cop...ive walked in low income shoes b4...i have friends of all different races...so that one i think too is sumone who ran into a bad cop...got judged...so is judgin themselves...and the cycle continues.
what i want to really comment on is the false accusation cops r powerhungry....and thats y we decided on this career. does anyone (whos not a cop) know what its like to go to a family disturbance/domestic call...see a child whos covered in bruises at the fathers hands....kneel down and talk to that child...hear his/her story....arrest the father....KNOWIN that childs nightmare is goin to go on soon as that man gets outta jail...cuz the mothers goin to let him back into the house....and all u can do is write out the report and drive away. and know in ur mind as ur drivin away...theres nuthin u can do that u havent already to help that child out.
or how about the person on meth....and ur talkin to them...and ur lookin around on the walls..seein pictures of that person b4 they started the drug...what they once looked like....the family they once had...and there throwin it all away no matter what kind of help ur offerin them or how much u try talkin to them...to give them reasons to accept help.
to say an officer started this job to be powerful....to bully ppl around...thats the farthest thing from the truth. everyday....every single day we come across situations that we have no power over....ppl we cant help...kids we cant help....no matter what we do...and we know that storys comin home with us....theres sum u dont ever forget. if a person wants power in there job..there gonna go work for the IRS or sumthin like that...there not goin to become a cop where alot of the stuff u see u wish u hadnt. i remember awhile back i was called to an accident involvin injuries....medical was already dispatched to the location and on there way...dispite our efforts while helpin waitin on medical to roll up...three ppl that day became fatalities. one was a child. and ill never forget that call...not cuz i had power over the scene....but ill remember that day cuz i had no power...i couldnt help. with all my trainin...there was nuthin i could do but watch them die.
yea i have the power to take sumone to jail....so what
and yea i have the power to write u a citation...big deal
for anyone who thinks bein a cop is about power or bein cold to ppl...u couldnt be more wrong...cuz theres ppl ive dealt with ill see forever in my head...ppl i had no power to help.
the power i feed off of and always will is in takin what i know...what ive learned over the yrs ive been on the job...and helpin sumone...be it a kid who was just involved in a vehicle crash...and im bendin down calmin him down...maybe grabbin a teddy bear outta my trunk for him to take with him....as sum small comfort. or the mother of three kids who im able to talk to and get her to leave that abusive husband cuz i took the time to talk to her and show her theres a better life out there for her and the kids. sure theres bad cops out there who join cuz they think its a trip to bust sumone and have that control....but ya know what..they dont make it long. cuz after time they realize there is no job out there where u have such lil control. if i had the power ppl think i do....let me tell ya..there would never be a child that went without...be it food..love...peace at home...and there wouldnt be ppl on drugs cuz they would all see a better way....and every accident scene i rolled up on would end ok...no fatalities. and ppl would see the police as sumthin more than ego maniacs who could care less. i dont need to be seen as a hero...but bein seen as sumone who cares about the ppl he comes in contact with would be nice. im the cop id want to deal with if my home was broken into. and im the cop id want to deal with if i was the victim of a crime...and im the cop id want takin my report if i wasnt that upstandin member of the community...if i was poor...maybe had a record. power? no. i wish i had power. and im not playin the victim...as mentioned in an earlier post...this is just exactly how i feel about my job. i love it...i wouldnt do anythin else...but the reason i love it is cuz occasionally i do get to help sumone...and occasionally its appreciated...and THATS what makes me feel powerful.

I've always been tolerant.Ya never win a cop over if hostile.
At 14 in a "borrowed"car,as the cops got next to me at a red lite,I gave a parade wave and showed a newspaper. They were cool with it. I was a paper-boy.
Every cop in blues is a target for an insane person. If I dis my stuff better...
Have no record of any offence .Nor desire anything that led to a charge.

I only hate cops...........

When they give me a speeding ticket.

When they give a parking ticket.

When they give me a ticket for a broken headlight/parking light.

When they give me a ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Everything else they do I like......I only have a problem when I have to pay, which its not very often.

"Blaze" and "Bona Dea": In Ohio, police officers have to maintain a certain physical standard (especially on my former department). Failure to do so, can mean dismissal from the department. For instance, a male officer under age 45 has to be able to perform the following: Run three miles (with duty gun belt and equipment) in 29 minutes. Has to perform 20 pushups, has to do 80 situps. Must be able to swim (again, with duty belt and equipment). Has to have vision of a certain standard (I've forgotten what that is now). There are other things that they must be able to do as well, I think I've told enough for this thread. I've gotta say, there are some donuts I enjoy. But back when I was a police officer, I passed them right on by. No donuts, no smoking, and very little drinking. And yes, lots of people offered me anything from donuts, fast food, home made food, all manner of food!!!. Most of the time, I had to pass it right on by. And now that I'm retired from the job, I still eat lots of salids. . . . healthy foods. But if someone offers me a slice of pizza, or other homemade goody well, you know I'm only human!!

When I was a kid, I remember seeing some officers that were obviously out of shape. I knew that if I wanted to, I could easily out run them. The state of Ohio saw that as well. Most departments here have certain standards that make their officers stay in shape, and the officers are made to stay that way. Some departments offer rooms and equipment for their officers to work out in. Others offer memberships to local fitness facilities. My department offered nothing.

Mirandariane....

"Your like a child stamping your foot, but you make no sense. Your just an angry little girl who is pouting and whining about some thing she has no understanding over. Go away now, little girl. Your such a child, and it shows"
and my post is hate-filled?

Just a question here, why dont you mail Patrol Sargeant privately?... Im not sure every other poster here wants to see you try and 'get it on' with him in a forum?...
But again, just my thoughts...

Going back to the actual forum discussion......

It is true that many people who have done something wrong dont like the police but thats for obvious reasons...
There are however many people who are as law abiding as myself who do not have a great deal of love for the police either...
I have friends who are in the police force and we have chatted about how the law system works...
When I was randomly hand swabbed upon entering my local pub, my reading tested positive for cocaine - picked up off money I had just withdrawn from the cash machine.
This then gave the policeman the power to search me.
If I had been some troublesome youngster, possibly carrying cannabis or maybe a knife - This is an excellent result for the police, resulting in a charge. Which all amounts up to the police meeting their "targets"...
I spoke to a friend (who's a policeman) and he explained that the swab machine is so sensitive it will give positive readings on just about anyone...
all they want is to do is search you and hopefully stumble upon something they can charge you for....

This is good in one way but humiliating for the innocent citizen who is being body searched in the middle of her local high street....

Being stopped because you have an expensive car is another reason the police get on my nerves...
but as its been explained, could be stolen?could be a drug dealer?... Who knows?
That makes it ok to be stopped at least once a month then does it?

abuse of power!

coppers are card holding members of the largest gang on the planet.

i dated a woman that worked with the police, fire dept and ambulance or ems and all

the groups involved in public service.

it's the get out of jail free crowd.

she could pick up the phone make a call and find out anything she wanted from the

police or the fire dept.

she was in the gang.

it's al capone's gangster tactics with badges!

This is the reason abuse of power, police seem to use their power to get all types of benefits that they actually shouldnt be entitled to.

With power comes responsibility and they havent handled it well, if they had there would be no overwelming distrust of the police by the public. Its there because things have happened. You make your bed then you lie in it.

Ppl dont like car sales man because they lie and take advantage of ppl.
ppl dont like police because they abuse their power and take advantage of ppl.

Not every car sales man is dishonest but enough are to warrent you being causious when dealing with a car sales man. Same goes for police, they profile ppl based on race and culture , the way they dress etc.. why would you complain that ppl profile them based on them being police

i find it funny how ppl can complain about things the police supposedly do... that they r doin themselves....u complain cops r predudice...well...ur all pretty predudice about cops...

u complain we dont care bout anyone....yea..ill remember that next time i cant sleep cuz the things i remember while on the job...

u say its a "get out of jail free card" if ur a cop....any decent cop is goin to bust the bad cop cuz frankly....we dont like it anymore than the next guy...and second...i dont wanna get accidently mixed up in what the bad cops doin by mistake and havin him take me down with him. the coverups and all that r becomin a thing of the past....they used to exist sure..and im sure they still happen...but now a days depts r crackin down on that kinda stuff....and the bad cops get busted. and its cops who bust em....
i remember sittin on one of my nights off watchin sum show on reality tv....what was that show called...."busted on the job" i think..or sumthin real similar to that....it showed a cop goin up to a donut stand...the owner or clerk wasnt around...so the cop used his nightstick to grab not one donut...but two...than casually walked off...not payin mind u for either donut....i laughed my butt off cuz the guy got busted....i thought to myself...what a dumbsh** of him to steal them..when u knew he had a buck in his pocket...whatever the cost...to buy himself a couple donuts...and he risked his job for that. u think i wanna work with sumone like that? u think i want that type of guy backin me up in an emergency situation? heck no! donut today...evidence tomorrow. see what alot of ppl dont realize is this...if my partner gets busted for doin sumthin on the job....and i know about it....im just as guilty as he is and i risk my job...everythin i love and everythin ive worked so hard for goes bye bye...right down the drain...than ive gotta face my family...my wife and kids (if i had them)...and thats just not worth it. ive got a buddy from another county who was off duty...watch his buddy..who was also an off duty cop...backhand his wife...my buddy said he had his friend laid out on the floor in a second...the man was eventually fired from his position as corporal...and charged for the crime. the wife of the officer did not want to press charges...it was my friend who brought the charges to the district attorneys office and the state ended up pickin up the charge...prosecutin the man. now...would i have done the same thing? u bet ur a$$ i would have. i dont care if u wear a paper bakery hat...a postal uniform....or a badge....u commit a crime ur goin to face the music. and i arrested a cop once...for drunk drivin...sure he tried gettin out of it by tellin me he worked a few counties over...did his deputy title keep the cuffs off of him? nope....he got to see the inside of a city cruiser just as fast as the next guy would have. charges stuck and he was also eventually released from his position. could i have let him go that night? sure i could have. did i? nope.
i remember one time i was called to a fire....i get on scene...ppl r runnin all over...it was a madhouse...ppl screamin...goin in and out of the residence...myself and one other officer were on location....awaitin the fire dept....one woman in particular was runnin in and out of the residence screamin about her belongins..she wanted them out and wanted them out now....i finally yelled at her after several calm attempts to keep her from the inside of the residence. she listened only when i yelled and threatened to arrest her. and she remained outside. after the fire dept had gained control over the fire...i did approach her and explain y i was so harsh with her....she had calmed down sumwhat and told me she was very upset with the way i handled the situation....that i had no business bein a police officer..that i couldnt understand she was upset about her home...everythin she owned goin up in flames...and maybe i should rethink my career..cuz i wasnt very good at it. again i apologized...explainin my position...that at that time...all i cared about was keepin the ppl out of danger...and that included her...and that id rather see her home go up in flames than her die inside the home. she did not see my point and i ended up leavin the location. three weeks later or so....i recived a letter from the lady....which first went to my chief....sayin she had time to think about it...and i was right...that i probley saved her life that day....but she was too upset at the time to really consider it all....and that she appreciated the time i took afterwards to explain y i became so firm with her. that letter still sits in my work file....a copy of it hangs in my den in my own home. i think the main thing police...as were not perfect...fail to do...and it would make a world of difference with MOST ppl...is to explain things to them...after the work is done....
sumtimes five minutes of explainin y u did this...or y u did that....(possibley in bonas case with the search) can make sumone understand it...than again...(maybe in bonas case)
sum ppl no matter what u do...u can explain till ur blue in the face...ur gonna be wrong no matter what...its the green eggs and ham situation...(i do not like green eggs and cops (ham) ...i do not like them sam i am)
but for the ppl who r rational...the ones who r gonna at least take a bite of the green eggs...they r gonna see they do so like green eggs and cops(ham)...they do so like them sam i am! sumtimes takin the time to TALK to ppl/cops can benefit not only the officer...but the citizen as well

<<<green eggs

On a positive note... I dont actually think the police get paid for what they do. I think they get paid for what they might have to do.
Who would want to be a policeman at the time of 9/11?

But the coverups still exist..and it's evident in alot of cases. We've had alot of things happen in a County nearby...this scum bag broke into an elderly lady's house, robbed her and she had a heart attack and died. He just got done in court and yes he recieved 6 yrs in jail. 6 lousy years for everything he did!! Then another man robbed a store- just got out of court and he recieved 15 yrs for his crime..... I look at both of those and I'm sorry but I just don't understand how the creep just got 6 yrs for the loss of life while another gets 15 just for taking money.... Now on the coverups....some cops may be honest enough to bust another cop..but apparantly your not from where I'm from..Most here just turn their heads and let it slide. That blue law is alive and well!

Knightless,
There is nowhere to house all of the criminals, many of which are also mentally ill. Therefore, the criminal justice system tries to set as many of them free as they can (plea bargains, parole, probation) I don't know if you saw my thread about the serial rapist but it is horrific that he was elibible for parole in two years though he committed murder?
A man just was sentenced to 4 years for beating a one year-old child and breaking her elbow (she was crying while he changed her diaper, so he lost his temper.)
This is not the fault of the police.
In every area of politics there are going to be people who are greased, and those are the ones that get the most far ahead financially and position-wise.
The honest ones are out there, and we are the ones that plug along and never get the plush jobs.
The dirty cops congregate and that is why they do not want the honest ones around them, I will speculate.

Has anyone ever watched the show COPS on the Court channel?
Are those policemen for real or is it just acting?
I get upset when I see them grab a woman and throw her down.
Why do they grab them by the hair?
A person can't help it if they are upset when they are questioned by a cop.
I want to know if this show is for real or fake?
Whats even sadden is after the cops arrest that person
they all stand around the car laughing and giving one another hi fives.
Why do they act that way?

In response to the police sarg reply to my post... didn wanna cut and past the whole thing.

Im sure it is very frustrating for you to catch attitude from ppl, when obviously you do beleive in what you do and are not currupt in anyway. Im basing this of what i read.

But you know hippy kids and black and mexican ppl deal with those issues every time we pass by a policeman. Its not always racial profiling its also cultural profiling i know some white hippy kids who are forever getting horassed because based on their appearance police assume they have drugs on them. Some of those kids are coincedentally always high but thats beside the point.

Yes we all have our prejudgements and prejudices, But here is the difference I dont have the power to effect you with them. All I can do is say and think what I feel. Where as if a policeman choses to he has the power to effect my life based on his prejudices

I know their are good and bad in all professions but when you have a profession that is given that much power over the general public. Some types of bad are just not acceptable. Not if you want people to feel comfortable. If people didnt view cops in this way they would be alot more forthcomming with information and it would make your job alot more efficient.

I agree witht he earlier post i would pay more money in taxes if it meant there was better screening process. Id rather have more intelligent cops who are payed better and value their jobs more and actually beleive in protecting the community of hardworking tax paying citizens. No matter what that community might be or what types of problems it has. Then tons of dumb idiot rednecks running arround policing letting out highschoolish type frustrations and playing ego games, making judgements based on what their redneck parents taught them.

anyways I guess what im trying to say is as a policeman. I respect you alot as an individual, you deal with alot of crazy shit on a daily basis not even getting payed that much for it you do it because you beleive in something, and that is honorable . But I cant respect your profession as a whole. There are to many glaring problems with your policies and with the way your own who do wrong are often let off with a slap on the wrist type of thing

I mean i had a friend of the family in chicago. His name was luke , this kid was bad news. He dealt drugs for along time. Later on he quit but there was always animocity between the local police and him. Alot of that was stemming from the fact they knew what he had done but wer never able to make him pay for it.

Anyways it had been a few years since he had quit dealing, he had a rottweiler. Someone had called and compained that the dog had attacked them. When they got their the dog was chained up in the back yard. It was obviosly a false call because they claimed the dog had attacked them in the street and the whole time it had been chained in the back yard.

They told him they wer going to take his dog and put it down. Luke loved that dog and freaked out. he went and got a gun and shot one of the cops when they came to get the dog. They killed him, then they went in the house and shot his father to death in bed and also shot the dog in the back yard.

now his father had always had a foul mouth on him and was an ornery old man. They claimed he was attacking them so thats why they shot his father. They didnt realize that he was a quadrapaligic and couldnt actually get out of bed on his own. So they wer caught out in their lie.

His mother and younger brother returned hometo find their family slain over a dispute about a dog.

and you dont have to look far i mean look at diallo. A man goes to get a loaf a bread and is approached by plain clothes officers who dont display their badges when he reaches for his key because he is scared for his life he gets shot to death because they thought he was reaching for a gun.

when given that much power having a few bad in your profession has the potential to cause more damage then any number of slimey dishonest car sales man or lawyer could ever cause. You are given guns and the right to kill ppl under certain circumstances. You cant be sloppy in the slightest bit with that type of responsibility and expect ppl not to be apprehencive /distrustful etc...

there are good and bad cops its true and i would say probobly the good greatly outnumber the bad. But the truth is there are valid reasons that people dislike, and dont trust police. If those reasons are your fault or not you should just accept it as part of your profession

Nocturnal: I realize the problem with the shortage of jails, prisons, and the other places that house offenders. I think if they got tougher on the criminals and make their stay in prison and/or jail when they are caught..then they won't be tempted to go back in there anytime soon. When these murders, druggies, alcholics get slapped on the wrist and get out of jail early due to the shortages...they are happy as a lark, and they don't mind doing it again or even worse offenses knowing they won't be in there long enough to do anything....It seems like it's more against the victims, the victims families and society. It's getting worse everyday in America- I feel so sorry for the parents of kids today...they have to watch for child molesters constantly, drunk drivers, in alot of places the kids can't be alone to play because of all the violence. I know most cops try to do what they can..but we also have a crappy justice system and cops get frustrated when the courts turn them loose for whatever reasoning they come up with. It's a sad situation in our country in today's world..and it's like an open invitation for all the crooks from other places to come here and start their own orginization or gang...then hire a crrooked lawyer to get them off..or the system cuts them loose due to lack of housing....I wouldn't be near as leniant...They would have tents, bunk beds, raising their own foods..and they would have it tough as heck their full sentence. No time off for any good behaviour or getting out early for lack of housing....The way I feel on that subject is if you don't want to do the time, then don't do the crime to be put there. Life is hard enough for most people but when the system makes it that much harder, it just sickens me. And....my hats off to you and all the other cops who are honest and that do bust your butts to get the criminals off the street.

An acquaintance of mine who is a cop told me the following: "cops don't make the laws. The PEOPLE make the laws through the officials they elect. The cops just enforce the people's laws. If you don't like the laws, work to get them changed." That was a very interesting perspective, and one I'd never thought of.

Knightless,
Apparently you do not understand that your brand of justice would be designated "Cruel and Unusal" and a violation of their Constitutional Rights. They are awarded rights, whilst the Victims had none at their hands!
I would wrtie more and check your email, but not right now, because I am getting sleepy.

nomadd....thats all that one can ask for...to be judged as a person...individually....rather than a profession
my badge doesnt make me a great guy...a good person....or a trustworthy person....
my history does though...speaks for itself
i dont know what went wrong with ur friends dog....in my area...if sumone calls in a dog complaint...we usually let the animal care and control handle it....and they deem whether or not the dog is a saftey issue....we dont show up and shoot the dog. ive been in LE for almost ten yrs...eight of those ten have been spent on the road...and in that time...ive never shot a dog.
as far as judgin sumone by there looks go...everyone does that....everyone...its not cops alone. if i see sum kid behind the wheel of a souped up vehicle...music blarin to where they can hear the music three blocks down the road...and hes lookin at me like hes got sumthin to hide...of course im gonna keep my eyes on him....y shouldnt i? ya know most of the time its not color or race y were watchin ppl...its how they look at us. think of it this way....u walk in ur place after a night out with the guys...ur gf or wife is home....u cant look her in the eyes...ur lookin down at the ground when shes lookin at u....u know what shes gonna think....that u have sumthin to hide. u were screwin around on her....its gonna give her that idea in her head...and shes gonna be on ur butt....where were u....who were u with....any girls there....how come ur home so late...ect ect....
if ur avoidin me...im gonna wonder y when theres fifty ppl that just drove past me who could look right at me.
most ppl draw a cops attention to themselves by there actions...not the color of there skin or anythin else. and remember sumthin else too...theres black and mexican cops out there too....
when i was 16-17 i was drivin around in a red convertable 66 mustang my father and i fixed up together....i had metallica...danzig...guns and roses blarin....and id have four of my friends packed in the car...lol of course the cops watched me....i didnt mind...i wasnt doin anythin illegal...but yea i caught there attention...how could i not? and yea i got pulled over a few times....im sure they were wonderin if i swiped the car from sumone....was a nice car for a kid to be drivin...but a few minutes later id be on my way once they checked it out...and i never ran into a cop that was disrespectful...cuz i showed them respect from the time they approached my vehicle to the time they sent me on my way. i never was given a reason to dislike or distrust an officer...not in my 32 yrs
and u do have the power to effect a cop with ur predudices....check out the officer down memorial page sumtime...

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?
Posted: 8/17/2007 9:48:23 PM
How about a "paragraph cop" to issue the "Patrol Sgt" a summons to appear in the forum court? I know I am by no means the authority of grammer but, what is up with those pethetic attempts to a conversation. ***One can only hope that he doesn't actually write his reports that way***

how can you read the post when it all runs together and the only punctuation is...and then another topic is started.. like when I saved this cat from a cat molestor,,but yet all the cop haters are just in it to b mad...and then the donut maker got pissed when i used the bathroom...I only wanted to get a condom for the cat..i sure like pizza and then this guy once jumped off a building but landed on a...why do people hate cops...i dont c how it could b that way..shouldnt everybody write like a kid...

AAAAAHHHHH!!!

Cops chose to be a cops knowing full well people dislike cops. But still love to beeotch about peoples dislike of cops. They know the pay scale sucks ass. But they still CHOSE to be a cop! GET OVER IT!!! If you don't like the reaction of people, then CHOOSE to go into another profession and shut the F up!

A cop could have chose many careers. But they didn't. These people for whatever reason chose to become cops. So you get the good with the bad or the bad with the good, however you'd like to percieve your choice. The fact of the matter is that for whatever reason, like they didn't or couldn't go to college and needed a job, maybe they wanted some percieved "power", maybe they thought they could make a difference, maybe they were just sick and tired of getting picked on or maybe they were "born" into it. Whatever the reason GET OVER IT!

Maybe they should of thought about being a fireman or a paramedic. How about a doctor or a teacher? Maybe an architect or a mechanical engineer? How about a pilot? Everybody loves them.

Well maybe if cops are so smart and they are all about stopping crime then maybe they should have thought about being a prosecuting attorney. Oh fluck, did I mention that? Oooops. Cops dislike them alomost as much as normal folk. Maybe it's because they study law for a profession and the cops try in their grunt like way just to enforce something that their small minds believe is the law.

I am reminded of this whenever I go to a family function. I always have to laugh, when at the end of the meal, the cops ALWAYS bring up the fact that they get paid what they do, while having to deal with the freaks that they do, and how everyone hates the cops daily speach . Meanwhile, the Firefighters/Paramedics always just laugh and ask why would you choose that profession? Hell, everyone loves Firefighters. We get paid almost the same, better shifts, nobody hates us, we're "giving back" to the community, etc. etc.

Cops have chosen to be in a position of "enforcing" some kind of rule or law. Be it a sleezy bouncer or a TSA punk. If they wearn't a cop they would probably be a security guard at the local mall. They need to have the feeling of "being in control".

When one becomes a cop it is by choice. It is you that decided to be a cop and claim to be a professional. Obviously there are many of the cops that have no idea what a professional is. But yet you still blame the non-professional public for your problems.

I just had an epiphany!
One of the reasons that people hate cops is because when they are breaking the law AND behaving like A$$HOLES, we have the power and authority to take them to jail!

Normally, a Disorderly Conduct Intoxicated arrest can be translated into a "You Refused to Stop Behaving Like an A$$HOLE" citation.
I do not like taking people to jail for minor garbage, but sometimes there is no other alternative to keep the peace. If I do take someone to jail for something minor, anyone that knows me knows that I gave them every opportunity possible and they left me no choice.
If I get a person that abused a child or a big man womanbeater, to me, those people belong in a cage!

Nocturnal. It isn't that most people hate cops. Although it might be perceived that way.
You see law enforcement was once a well respected career. However the blue wall has made it impossible for the profession to weed out the bad apples in that career choice.
Therefore the lack of trust and deteriorated respect is such a major fall from grace that many see it as hate.
Not so. It isn't hate and most of the time it isn't personal. We just don't trust or respect the Leo's anymore. At least not as a profession. A individual might still enjoy that respect and trust. But that is because you as a individual has earned it.

and who is there to arrest a cop when s/he insists on being an a$$hole?

I know, never happen, riight? um, yeah Ohhhh----Kayyyyyyyyy..

(like the250-lb. drunk Chicago cop who punched the 120-lb. bartender when she cut him off after he was rude obnoxious & drunk & disorderly in the bar)

answer: no-one.

.a 'facade' of an investigation might be made, after which s/he will be 'cleared'.

did it ever occur to anyone that the reason u hear about "bad cops" on the news is cuz it is not an everyday occurance? yea the world heard about the chicago cop....but thats cuz his actions dont happen all the time. u ppl r pickin out the rarities...not the norms.
i get a kick outta readin bout the cop haters....cuz yall dont make any sense. its the same argument over and over with u ppl. ull pick sumthin that was on the news and run with it....or u just make comments that keep me laughin.
how is it that alot of ppl can get by in life without havin an issue with cops....but the rest of u can go on and on with stories how u were "wronged" by us? ya ever think u put urselves in that position? be it by who u associate with or ur own actions?
nawwww....y blame urselves when theres a uniform...district attorney...jury...and judge to blame.
its easier to blame others rather than take responsibility for urself. isnt it
