Thanks for giving evidence to support my intuitive guess. Bashing someone because you can't back up your position with rational logic is a classic indication of the basher knowing they're wrong and refusing to admit it. Bet I've got more friends on here than you do by a factor of 10.

You might not want to thank dreadstalker yet, hot shot. If engage-me is the pot then YOU are the kettle, in other words you and engage are the same -- though since he makes it clear in earlier posts that he IS NOT a cop, nor does he give any indication that "cops" are friends, that gives him a leg up in my book.

Will Punch you could give your leg to whomever you want I'm not intrested..I mearly made a statement and this fella came along and said something about medication which goes along with my statement of how cops seem to get offended easily and turn the tables on others by bullying them or getting personal...If he is a cop like many others he needs sensititivy trainning..And the wonderful thing about the internet is anybody can be whatever they want here, although many are lawenforcement personal hoping to bait and catch a big one..One thing I do know about good cops is that they don't bully others, they don't get personal unless it's neccessary as in to save ones life, and they don't promote themselves, unless there's a fine looking woman involved and that's just temporarly insanity you can't blame them for that..That happens to most men..I think the officer that started this thread is a good cop just by what I've read here what he's written I think he wants to understand people....Whatever I'll smoke the pot and be the kettle I don't care call me what you will...

As a whole...law enforcement officers have an important job to do and most are decent people, but it is the few that are "dirty cops" that really upset people...I think the badge should be worn with honour and not flashed as a sign of power over someone and I've known a few who do like to abuse that power...or have gone into it for the wrong reasons. I can understand being cynical after a while when dealing with all kinds of people, but sometimes common sense has to prevail and many times there have been instances where officers forget that things are not always like they appear...maybe some more psychological training would help .....just my thoughts

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

Having been arrested many times with no clear reason, and released several hours later with 'no charge', i have reason to hate the pigs/flith. I have been beaten,
for telling them their jobs, and they hate the fact that i know the law.
I won't suffer the bollox that they try to pull.
Whilst being beaten by 5 pigs in a cell, i defended myself with all i had, my teeth.
I have now been put on sec 17, for volient criminals. You know murderers, gbh, abh and armed robbers. My criminal record is for drink/drive, d'n'd, possesion of a controlled substance, namely exstacy and weed. At what point are any of my crimes consided volient.
I think that the hatred for the old bill is deep seeded and passed down to us.
It is becuase of what they represent and uphold, blindly and without question.
They have little or no intellagence, it is the largest boys club in the world.

I have just finished reading 'my manor' by Charlie Richardson, some of the things that he refers to with regard to the boys in blue, would make people think twice about their respect for them.
Charlie Richardson, The Krays and Frankie Fraser we all arrested and charged, amongst other things, with regard to 'Protection Rackets', yet the largest protection racket at the time (and i'm sure now) was run out of 'Scotland Yard'.
Being from the east end of London, and coming from a family of 'villians' my hatred
is more of an instinct.

The met police (and proberly all of the service's around the world) are racist, sexist and 'on the take'.
There are constant reminders of these 'facts' in the papers and in the news every day.

Last night, a woman got arrested for DUI, and a few other offenses. It was not my arrest, but I was called upon as an assistance car. I assure you that this woman was not beaten nor ill-treated in any way. She was pretty messed up and had no business driving.
I completed the tow sheet, ordered the tow, and completed the pre-booking form while the arresting officer completed the citations and the DUI paperwork.
She was very out of it, as she had asked for her purse which was nowhere to be found in the vehicle, so she surmised it was stolen.
She mentioned that she had a dog and a cat, and that she had no one to call upon to let the dog out.
With her permission, I told her that I would be willing to let the dog out and secure her keys at the police station. She asked me to leave her keys inside the grill in the back yard. There is enough liability in going into someone's home, let alone to leave the keys in a nonsecure place.
I had asked her about the breed of her dog, and whether it would bite me if I entered. I never saw the cat.
At my home, on a hunch, I grabbed some dog food before going over there, and sure enough, she had none in her home. In fairness, the dog seemed happy and healthy and not malnourished.
I put food out for the dog and for the cat, and put out a bunch of water (there had been no water available for them at all).
I let her outside, fed and watered them, and left. Her "stolen" purse was in the living room on the floor.
There was a lot of liability in going in there, but it was something I felt I had to do.
I secured the door behind me and secured her house keys at the police station.
Prior to that event, I did make a traffic stop. I asked her if she knew why I pulled her over. She did not deny running the red light. She had a license and insurance, and she was polite towards me. When she checked okay, I gave her a warning, but had she not had a license, I would have issued a citation.
Please do not refer to me as a pig, for just doing my job, because that is an easy way to get off on the wrong foot. I tend to think I am a very fair and honest person. If you give me probable cause, I will use it and check you out!
After work tonight, I got to watch a young woman with her skirt hiked up and her underwear down peeing in a doorway, while I walked my dog. I also saw several dope fiends trolling the neighborhood, geeped up, and looking for a bit more. When I am working, I am dedicated to taking back our neighborhood from the fiends, the dealers, and the prostitutes. When I am not working, I am just a small woman with a big dog who is paying attention to whom are the regulars hanging on the corners.
I sympathize with everyone that has ever been mistreated by police. However, that isn't me. I try to give everyone a fair chance, so please do the same with me, and other fair and honest cops, before you start with attitudes and calling us pigs, etal.

I decided not to start at the beginning of this thread but just read this last page. I see alot of hostility towards the police. True there are some that abuse the badge, but whether he is a good cop or bad, if YOU are in a situation where YOUR life is threaten, he will take the bullet for you. He will put his life on the line to protect YOU. He will rush into a burning building to pull you out before the fire department arrives, he will perform CPR on you if you have HIV or ODing on drugs. They are human and make mistakes. If you fight, they can't afford to lose, so they do what ever it takes to win. They don't see every thing that you see and you don't see every thing that they see. If don't agree with what he is doing, ask him why, be polite and non hostile, and he/she will probably tell you the reason. Put yourself in their place once in awhile, if your boss yells at you for no reason, don't you go home and yell at your spouse? They get yelled at all the time by the people they deal with.
Every thing that an officer does is reviewed by three juriditions..criminal, civil, federal. If a white officer strikes a black man that is not justified, the officer can be
tried for assault in criminal court, sued for injuries in civil court, and rights violation in federal court. Talk about pressure. So, you don't police..fine but try to live in a world with law enforcement and see what rights you really have.

I do agree that they are needed otherwise all hell would break loose.

Please remeber that i live in England and the police here do NOT run into burning building, They will NOT give cpr to a junkie, They would NOT make a trip to my house to feed a dog/cat.
I have been in many situations were there are fights or worse outside clubs, and it is ONLY the door man that would get 'in the middle'.
Our police take there time in responding to any form of voilent call, yet send a van, three cars and 8 'officers' for just me, 1.
So a WHITE cop can get in trouble for hitting a BLACK man, If he hits a WHITE man it would be ok, Or if a BLACK cop hits aWHITE or BLACK man thats ok to.

I'm sick of WHITE people having the monoploy on being racist!!!

Yes there are some good coppers, mainly the older guys, but most (95%) are c*"!s.

I'm sorry if my 'pigs' comment offended, but what you gonna do 'arrest' me!!!

Different countries, different policies. I just used the white cop and black citizen because it is the most common occurrance. White hit white, black hit black or black hit white, if it can't be justified, it's wrong and will be dealt with in the courts. If it takes 8 officers to make an arrest without getting an officer injured, than it takes 8 officers. You must remember, they are a limited resourse for the city. One officer gets hurt, the others have to cover his area, making even longer response time. I don't know your full story, why were you being arrested, and did you resist? If you resist, Ya, more are going to jump into the battle. What was the call that they were dispatched on, tavern disturbance...brawl at a sporting event, or just you acting up. If a large crowd is present...the more police are sent. Like I said, I don't know all the facts to make a judgement call. Question...why do you call them pigs?

To be honest, i'm not sure! It's a name that has been kickin' around for years.
I think i'll be looking into that one, but i know that it is a name that's been passed down from generation to generation, something to do with 'flith'. Over here in England there are plenty of names for allsorts of things, normally they come from ****ey rhyming slang.

seizure,
One of our cops was just indicted federally for running an international cocaine ring. Inexcuseable!
We are not and should not be considered above the law!
Regarding the trip to feed a dog or a cat, I can honestly admit that not too many officers would do that. I can think of one other officer that would for certain, and another that recently retired. There is so much liability in that kind of action, because she could always come back at me and say that I pilfered her home. I was rather upset that there was no water out for the pets, and that there was no dog food in the house. I am just glad that my inner voice nudged me to take some dog food with me.
Dealing with people does burn you out, so every thank you I get has meaning, and keeps me going for another day.
We did run into a burning building and save lives, but that was a one time emergency situation. I hope it never happens again, because it was scary as H*LL!
There are a lot of cops that are putzes, and many people I have met on this job that I do not like, do not respect, and some that I just do not trust. I keep my distance from them.
The ones that amaze me the most are not the ultra macho guys, but the guys that took this job and are afraid of their own shadows.
I do wonder how a lot of the people on the job slipped through the cracks.
Again, that is why I carry pink handcuffs and wear bizarre socks, because I know my character and my integrity are much more important than shined shoes, and it is my subtle way of pointing that out.
Of course it is bound to happen, but in 11 1/2 + years, I have never had a complaint from a consituent, but I did receive two written thank yous in the last year.
Perhaps you cannot guage all police by what I say and how I operate, because I know I march to the beat of my own drum. I carry referral resources with me, and the others I have posted on my walls and my refridgerator at home. I follow up with people, often on my own time.
It is not without rewards, though. The other day, a person with whom I have stayed in contact gave me a bucket of home grown tomatoes.
I suppose that could be considered accepting gratuities.
Recently, when one of my coworkers suggested I again apply for the detective bureau, I weighed the option. The detectives are so overloaded, and while maybe I have paid my dues and should be "promoted" (gold shield, same pay, different work) now isn't the time. They are forced to do quantity work not quality work because of their caseloads. When you get a sucker like me, I validate the victims and I do a very thorough report, so when they have minimal time to investigate, I did most of their invest for them. They get the overtime and the glory, but my work yields convictions, even if the court system is too lenient too often.
In domestic violence cases and felony cases, all of my reports are air tight. I don't really care much about the overtime, because it will happen without trying because there is enough crime out there. I care about making my community a better and safer place, where children can walk safely and our seniors are not afraid to sit on their porches or walk around the corner to the store.
Good heavens! There are enough people doing wrong out there that there is no need to go after people not doing wrong.
Regarding the young woman peeing in the doorway...had I been on-duty, I would have at least patted her down and run her for warrants, as her behavior gave me probable cause. However, being off-duty, I just became a little bit more convicted to cleaning up my corner of the universe. There is a huge problem with drugs and prostitution on that corner, and I was flagged down by the same man two days in a row, though I am not sure if he was buying or selling.
Bottom line: Perhaps I am the exception, but I really do care, enough that I frequently hand out my cell phone number to constituents; I advise them of my work hours and ask that the call when I have free air time, and I try to help and find solutions.

To seizure..The term PIG originally meant Pride-Integrity-Guts, probably thought up by some police officer. Cops is short for copper, which referred to the old English police uniform that had copper buttons. Not sure about "The Heat" "The Man"and
"The Fuzz". But as terms go through the generations, they become distorted and hurtful. Yes I know several police officers who have pig stys for their police cars. They throw all their trash in the back seat and don't clean it up at the end of their tour of duty and filth would describe them. I don't blame you for the way you feel after what you have been through, but judge the officer by who he is not by the uniform he wears, who knows, maybe some day one will save your life.

Thanks, i've e-mailed a rhyming slang site to see if i can get anything from them.
I do hope that if the need arises, a copper will be there to save my life. But i will say, their never there when you need them. Maybe the 'pond' is a bit bigger, when it comes to policing, than we think. Just a quick question, do you think that the British bobbies should carry firearms/tazer's? Or should we leave that to so19(armed police unit)?

Nocturnal Princess,

I tip my hat to ya, you sound like one of the 'good guys'. It sounds like you understand where the hatred comes from, by the way you speak of some of the others in your 'precinct'. I only wish there were more like yourself, that bring a sense of humour and passion to the job.
Why would you want to get promoted, more work same pay!
Good luck to you and remember, it's just a job!

As to your question siezure as to whether Bobbies should carry guns or tazers. Carrying a gun has alot of responsibility to it. The gun is the last resort that any officer should take, when I first joined the department in 1977, we were issued a baton, a can of mace, and a gun for protection. Later towards the end of my career, we received tazers. The tazer deliveres a 50,000 volt charge with low amperage, equal to what the body produces. Basically the tazer overrides the body signals to move, so it is an immediate take down. Your body function takes over after the trigger is released, immediate recovery..a lot of discomfort at the discharge of current but no after effects (so I'm told)...Mace or now a days pepper spray, works on blinding the subject and causing severe pain to the eyes to cease resistance. Pepper spray lasts for a period of up to three hours before effects wear off. A baton if properly used..no blows to the head or grion area..still causes deep bruises or broken bones and we all know how long it takes a bone to heal. A gun..lethal force..last resort. Judgement call at the moment to be evaluated for several monthes later by lawyers. What wound you rather they use on you in the future if they have to forcefully arrest you? Best thing to do is not get arrsted, too expensive.
You see a man running from a store that has its hold up alarm sounding. You yell for him to halt, which he does after you announce that you are the police. He turns to face you and reachs towards his back under the jacket he is wearing. you have your gun drawn (as you should since it is a hold up alarm), he brings his hand forward towards you...do you shoot because he is pulling a gun or wait to see if he is producing his wallet.

Would you want to face this man without a gun and wait for specialty squad with as crazy of a world as we have today? I don't know the training that your police go through but in todays state of mind...yes I believe that they should be armed.
I do realize that an unarmed officer poses not threat to a criminal and maybe that is why your department does not want to arm them. What is the death rate of officers over there by criminals?

Thank you Pat, and thank you seizure.
I am just a good-hearted Idiot that seems to get pooped upon by all sides.
One thing that drives me absolutely nuts about cops is their air of entitlement. A lot of restaurants give us a discount, on the premise that police presence is a deterrent to crime. Getting a discount on a meal is awesome, because I turn around and put that money into the server's pocket (and I know that the price of a meal is 2 1/2 times what it costs the establishment.) I cannot believe the number of cops that will not eat at a place that doesn't give us a discount or are offended at paying full price!
Hello? If you worked anywhere else and stopped for lunch, there would be no discount. You are driving a company car with company gas, and you get upset that the restaurant would charge you the same as anybody else?
I do not get that mentality.
A clean conscience makes a soft pillow.
Some of us are embarrassed by the attitudes and actions of some of our peers. Unfortunately, when there is a standard of professionalism, and the bosses choose not to enforce that standard, and persons do not have the dignity to embrace it upon their own, all someone like me can do is apologize for your negative experience and do my own job well.

Tramp,
I am sorry for your negative attitude, and I am sorry for the negative attitudes that many police carry.
They teach us how to use a gun, yest. Not necessarily any gun, but sight alignment and triggerpull, the training does apply to other weapons other than the ones with which we are trained.
We are trained in use of pressure points to gain compliance from "no" people. We are trained in defensive driving.
I do believe when people pass their driving tests, they were also trained to pull over to the right and stop when an emergency vehicle responding to an emergency has their lights and sirens on. Believe me, there are a lot of people that try to make that turn in front of you, because apparently they are in a hurry.
I rather navigate on the fence here, because I understand components of the emergency response that are difficult to understand. The not activating your lights and sirens and running a light, because you do not want to alert the suspect that you are moments away.
I had mentioned the dog feeding incident. I left the house keys clearly marked with the person's name in the window next to the lobby door. The man called me on my cell phone and woke me up early this morning. He had gone to the police station as instructed to pick up the keys. They didn't even open their eyes, and despite his claims that he was told to pick up the keys at the station, they were rude to him. He had waited twenty minutes to be treated like an idiot. They told him the keys were not there. They gave him a phone number to call, who gave him another number, and he wasted an entire afternoon because of apathy and incompetence!. The envelope was at eye level in the window right next to the door: "John Doe will pick up".
To me, officers like this are an embarrassment. Once again, though, that isn't all of us. My apologies to everyone that has had to deal with persons like this and let them jade your opinion of all law enforcement in general.
