"Tramp, I am sorry for your negative attitude.." Typical cop comment.. Someone disagrees with the police makes a comment and Here Comes Da Judge...Kinda makes all that sincere good cop cra*p just fly out the window.

Byrd, I respect them just like I respect everyone else.
I just wish they would not abuse the power they have; my comments come not from what I have read on this board,
but from very, very, recent experiences.
Cops have gone from being the helping hand of the neighborhood to bullies.

There's good and bad in all of us..But I haven't seen this much hate since the 60's and I was alittle kid then..This country is seprated Everybody hates the rich, the poor, the cops, blacks, whites, mexicans, who's to blame? All of us in a way..I know what you mean some are bullies..I like the cops here in S.B. Not just because I talk sh*t about them either I'm not afraid of them I've never been hit by a cop here..Some of their actions piss me off but since I usually keep my nose clean those actions don't involve me..Still when a wayward comment like the one directed toward you spews forth I must respond..Call it Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, sorry if I offended you....Byrd

We don't have stupid criminals over here, and not as bad a gun problem, so the situation put forward dosn't really come up. Our criminal would rather rob a warehouse (in the dead of night, and clear it out properly).
With regard to tazers , i suffer from epilepsy and wonder what the effects of being 'shot' could have on me.
In England we perfer to kill each other, as opposed to the police, i think there have been about 2-3 police killed this year (reported in the national news), and they used knives.
Over here we have had a rise in kids shooting each other (13-18 year olds), And the govenment is concerned with 'black on black' (which is a term a hate) gun crime (operation trident).
I have never seen the police use pepper spary (which i know they have), they perfer to kick the s*"! out of us with their shiny black coshes (collapsable - which are banned from public use).

Nocturnal princess, I see police using the squad cars to go and get fish 'n' chips, doing their shoping in uniform, and cutting ques (which isn't very british). At night they race each other back to the station, i know this because i live oppersite the station.

Basically they just take the all round piss.

I was walking down the road on the pavement, about a year ago, when someone on a bicycle almost run me down. I remarked that he shouldn't be on the pavement (law in england), with that the guy threw down the bike, run towards me and pushed me. I was about to knock him the **** out, when i noticed that he was in full uniform. He then said to me "you don't tell ME what to do", to which i replied "oh, what you tell me".
He didn't like it and wanted to arrest me, long story short, he tryed and without me resisting, Failed. Eventully his sergent come along and managed to do it properly.
I was then put in a police transport vehicle, not a prisoner vehicle, with no seatbelt. I had my hands cuffed behind my back, and pointed this out. They were prepared to drive 10 miles (at least) with me like that.
I was released 4 hours later (11:30pm), with no charge. I wive out in the sticks, and the trains don't run that late, there is no bus. I had to pay a score for a cab.

How is this fair policing, how i'am i supposed to respect the police.
I won't go in to what i was told when i tryed to make an offical complain, but lets just say they were just as helpful.

Seizure,
Regarding the food run or the shopping, well we do get a lunch break, and the possibility is there to be called off of your lunch break. If I want to pick up some items at the store instead of eating during my lunch break, I will be in full uniform and driving the police car. This is why I suggest that things are not always as they seem.
If my pen dies in the middle of the shift, I will stop by a drugstore and "shop" for a new pen.

I might suggest that some of the yonger men with whom I have worked have drivin like Idiots unnecessarily, and these are the same hypocrites that will write traffic citations to people who drive like them.

There are plenty of loose cannons on this job, rather like a microcosm of Society in general, but one has to wonder how they slipped through the screening cracks. I do not believe in politicians and police and celebrities being above the law.

I am sure that you ran into obstacles while trying to make a complaint. They probably made you jump thorough hoops and did everything to discourage it.

Regarding my previous comment to Tramp that Byrd took out of context, I thought what the message of that posting was that cops with attitudes have bred his negative attitude, and I am sorry that he has had those negative encounters. I am sorry for your negative experiences too, and they would leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I have never forgotten that before I became a sworn officer, I was a member of the public, a civilian, a citizen. There were times that I needed police services, and they dropped the ball. Even as an officer, when I got hit in my civilian car by a drunk driver, the lazy police officer who was called to handle my assignment did such shoddy work that it cost me my $500 deductible and nothing ever happened to that guy.

Let's put it this way: If we were a corporation, a for profit entity, we would go under. Fiscal mismanagement would drive us out of the market. The rude and inept employees would be let go. Even if you fixed the financial woes, I will agree with you that there would proably not be enough workers to keep the company up and running. I still stand by my assertion that there are a lot of good and sincere cops out there; however, the bad ones stand out and those are the ones that you remember.
Which do you remember more? The cop that butchered your report, put a boot in your rear end, or the one that treated you like garbage...or the cop that you stopped and asked for directions, and they helped you, smiled, and told you to have a nice day?
Simlar analogy of garbage: do you really notice when the garbage gets picked up every week, or do you notice if perhaps the garbage did not get picked up? You remember the garbage being there moreso than you remember when things are done as they should be.

Taking things out of context...Yes will if it would have been explained more in the first place instead of a short jab, the statement would not have been taken in a negative manner, But you knew that you were just being a cop, no harm no foul...

Cops think everybody is a criminal. You are a second class citizen, if your not a lawyer, some judge, or another cop. I suppose I'll get slammed by my opinion, but I know a few of em. I can see how they get brainwashed and paranoid. Dealing with drunks, drug dealers, and crack heads. It takes an individual of rare character to deal with what they see everyday. But still, in reality I suppose we're all breaking the law in some way and really don't want the hassle of dealing with the outcome of what they could do to us. Am I right?

The us versus them mentality that seems to be perpetuated throughout the ranks is the cause of a lot of the disrespect that officers receive. The other part is the blue wall of silence.
It is the old saying of you reap what you sow.
After so many years of negative reinforcement coming from the majority of the offficers it is small wonder things stand as they do.

Where do I start? Little man syndrome most of the time, or compensating for a little****....you tell me. Here in Georgia if you flunk out of highschool, that's OK...you can be a cop. Men who like to harass women for no good reason.Harass teenagers because they can. They all think that you should kiss their asses because they are cops. Don't want to pay for anything or want it next to free. Think that because they are cops the same laws don't apply to them. Think they know everything. Thieves, liars, etc. Excuse me....but MY tax dollars pay your salary. YOU work for ME! They would all do well to remember this.

Some Cops are ok. I've met my share of nice ones. Then the others just want to abuse their power, those I have a problem with or who think they are Robo Cop.

Some enjoy doing their job, CATCHING CRIMINALS.

Pulling people over because of them not wearing a seat belt is non sense. They have check points here in Jersey to see if you have a seat belt on, oohh big deal....if someone wants to get launched through their windshield let em.

They are wasting time with that rather then patrolling high crime rate areas.

There was this one cop who lived in my area and he had a car, tinted out windows like a limo. Then he would drive around in his patrol car looking around my area for people with tinted out windows and tell them to remove the tint or they would get fined.

I just ordered some Luminics pure blue headlights for my car and if a cop has nothing better to do then pull me over because of this, I'm going to have a fit.

For "Mr Raitano": If a police officer is driving a vehicle with tinted windows, next time you see his car, if you can, write down his license plate number, take that to his superviser, and tell him that the officer is breaking a law he is swarn to uphold. If you don't get results from doing that, then take the same information to your councilman or mayor or other town representative and tell him the same thing. If that doesn't do any good, go to the local tv, and ask their investigative reporter to see if he can do something about it. This officer should not get away with it, and you should do something about it, if you don't like what he's doing. I don't like it any more then you do.
Officers doing check points, are often ordered to go to a certain place and whatever to observe that area for certain traffic violations. For instance, he/she may be assigned to a certain intersection to watch for violations of people running red lights. Does this mean that he's gonna enjoy doing this particular assignment? Not necessarily. Because like you, he (the officer) really would rather be seen doing something else, then chasing down people for traffic violations. After all, how is the public going to perceive him doing this assignment?? The public will see him sitting in his cruiser, drinking a coffee or soda, watching the intersection. And until he goes after someone for a violation, they'll think he's just sitting on his butt lazing off. And then, when he does go after someone for a violation, he'll be just another cop chasing some poor SOB for some minor violation, and the public doesn't like that either. He's d@amned if it does his job, and D@amned if he doesn't. But that's what he's paid to do.
As for your blue lights. I don't know what state (or country) you live in, but by the way you said you'd be upset if a police officer stopped you for them, then you already know they are illegal in your area. And if they are, there may be a reason they are that you don't know about. And if you're not certain if they are illegal, then telephone the police, and ask them if they are, and why they are, and what the fine is for having them on a car. And after they tell you why they're illegal, write back, and explain that to me, so I'll know too.

Soryy..i think cops seem to,although a cross section, of the population, have ability to abuse and get away with it..my husband left me and my kids two years ago..to make a long story short..you walk a fine line...he has forced his way into my home( left two years ago..titled in my name)..to do what I call piss on the trees..he wants to control me..so when he doesnt get his way ie..runs license of car in my driveway and doesnt like who it comes back to(although Im not dating)-he just wants his cake and to control me too.now i call the locals --but I have to be careful because he could loose his job(and he knows this)lied on trial said never happened ..be taken seriously since he is a cop...only one problem I was able to produce at least two hard copies or reports within the last year..anyway what im saying is they think that they can get away with things..1..They are the "law,2 if you want your kids(his too)to survive you really cant complain,3 Manipulation..he thought locals would probably destroy or lose the paperwork(he even stated he had contacted several agencies to find out if there was areport..if it didnt happen why would he have called to find out if a report was issued?..and after this he has the nerve to ask why i didnt fight for him..maybe it had to do with driving myself in the dark winter pregnant and throwing up to the hospital 45 miles away while you wer sleeping in our bed..or perhaps it has to do with how you provide so well for your children, or how you played your mind games...or how you show your machismo by pushing thru the door and then saying it never happened even though your kids were there and a reports were filed....
I dont think its the cop we hate..beleive me I have met lots of nice male and female cops..its the ability to manipulate ..not only the public but anyone else they feel like..it makes those who are jerks, think they can get away with anything..its too bad cause

some really nice people are cops...and conversley there are allot of cops who arent nice people..As for me..I just wish he hadent made me so sceptical...about everyone.. i mistrust/dislike cops..pig roast next summer!!!

Not all cops are bad folks. I like the cops on my college's campus. They are friendly, personable and helpful. One recent night I was scraping ice off my car, and the cops pulled by to chat with me, and keep me company while I scraped the ice. We had a pleasant chat for a few minutes as my car warmed up. Their friendly presence on campus helps make the school safer and more enjoyable for all of us at the college.

My hometown's police department also has wonderful people on its staff, as well as a great police chief.

I also have wonderful memories of a South Carolina state trooper who changed my tire for me when it blew. I often think of that kindly man who went above and beyond the call of duty to help a motorist in need.

It saddens me so much to learn of police officers who behave badly making the vast majority of cops who are wonderful people, look bad.

God bless our men and women in blue!!

THE POLICE DON'T DO ENOUGH TO POLICE THEMSELVES.

Individual policemen and women can be great--they have to be psychologists, puzzle solvers, as well as enforcers. I have never had a bad encounter with police, personally, but it cannot be disputed that SOME individuals abuse their power. If I were a member of the police or its union, I would FIGHT to get those abusers off the force. But instead, the unions fight FOR the abusers--that is ONE reason public perception is so bad.

Have any of you seen the tazer thing with the UHP it was plain as
day what was going on there and they said it was justified. I agree
with both sides of most of the posts^^^^^there is two sides to the
story, but.... it does seem like it them against us for the most part
and there is so many new laws that it is crazy, I thing most people
are hateing the can't do this can't do that and the cops swear to uphold
the laws good or bad so the hate is directed to them and thats how
big brother wants it. And I see its mostly women who have the good
stuff to say, he stopped and made sure I was alright, ya uumm.
Byrd is right about american being divided and thats what big brother
wants fight among are selfs and they close the noose.

and to think, all this time i didn't even realise there was a discussion forum on this site...

I personally hate cops because of an incident which occurred to me 8 years ago at the hands of 4 corrupt cops and a dodgy ex-manager at a bar I used to work at. I did drink a lot that night, tripped and fell in the lobby knocking myself out and was taken to the sick bay. One of my friends (who was working there) told the manager that she would take me home (as she lived around the corner) at the end of her shift. When she finished her shift, I was nowhere to be found and the manager told her that I'd woken up and caught a taxi home. She later found out through one of the bouncers that the manager had called his mates in the cops and organised for me "to be taught a lesson". I was taken out the side door by 3 bouncers, who took off my shoes and smashed the window of a car in and placed in said car, the location of which was provided to the cops.

The beating I received at their hands was severe, including a broken wrist and two dislocated shoulders and has caused me no end of problems in my personal life ever since. I have photo's of the cuts and bruises all over my face and body.

This event and one other (not involving cops) are the two major events which nearly broke me and my wife up, and directly lead to the one thing which saved our marriage - opening it up to sexual encounters with others as after these two events, the sex life we had enjoyed so much for the first few years of our relationship was gone due to different desires and my inability to do the things which we had previously done all the time.

Sure there might be some good cops around, but here in Victoria Australia they are outnumbered by the corrupt ones. The lessons I learned was don't get drunk and do not ever trust a cop.

I have ZERO problems with law enforcement / police officers - but then again I don't have any warrants out for my arrest and I haven't served time (which could be some of these other peoples problems). :)

All kidding aside.. When it comes to dating I really don't have a problem with policemen or military personnel so long as they are SINGLE, and are not players.. (not juggling multiple women) . Of course the same criteria would apply as do for other gentlemen that talk to about dating as per my profile.
