| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/5/2008 12:57:59 AM | | first off the police aren't the only ones who work dreadful shifts, weekends, put up with obnoxious drunks, hoodlums, druggies, mental cases, etc. i am a nurse and have put up with all the same things. the police have them for a few hours. we at the hospital have them for days to weeks. i think alot of difference would be made if there were only state police instead of local police. when a local police officer hands you drugs back that belonged to your husband rather than throw them in the sharps container tells you alot about the mentality of the local police force. or the officer who pulls my son and me over because he wants to know exactly what my husband is up to instead of getting enough evidence against my husband to arrest him tells you alot about the local police force. or how about the man reported missing a month before he was found drowned. the police said they weren't going to look for him because he just didn't want to be found. i could tell you enough stories about bad police officers that would take up hours of everyones time. don't tell me it's about low class people either unless you consider a rn low class. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/8/2008 10:14:28 AM | | Are you sure you are not referring to the vocal minority of people who say they hate cops rather than the majority of people who interact with them and either like them or are neutral to them? | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/8/2008 10:52:46 AM | I am the type of person who does not get mad over a ticket if I know I did something wrong. If I was speeding and I got caught it was my fault for speeding. I don't hate cops because they punish me for doing wrong... I hate them because out of the 7 or 8 times I have been pulled over in my life only ONE cop was pleasant and simply made me feel at ease... The rest used profanity, insinuate that I am carrying drugs (by asking repeatedly and saying so why else was I speeding), rough me up or simply make a big scene out of a routine pull over by using loudspeakers and making me get out the car which if I'm correct isn't standard protocol for a routine pull over.. And then the famous "you matched the description of a suspect we were looking for in the area" when they had no reason to pull me over and I had no drugs or weapons in the car for them to arrest me for.
More times than acceptable the cops I encounter are rude and condescending. Last time I got pulled over for cutting in front of my girlfriend when a cop was present. She had given me the go ahead to on the phone but she pulled me over and gave me a ticket for careless driving... Then her partner had the nerve to go up to my girlfriend and tell her "do you know he has been arrested for careless driving before?"... What did that have to do with anything ? What gave him the right to tell her my personal information? So its stuff like that why I hate cops and until that arrogant condescending attitude that most of them have I will continue to hate them.
Cops need to go to some serious sensitivity training every year because that badge goes to their head after a while..

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/8/2008 7:45:46 PM | | Ben or any other police officer that is really interested in how the public perseves them, write to me and I will tell you my personal experiances. It is not the job, or the individual officers it is the mindset of the institutution. I will tell you this on here, I have met one decent officer out of twenty and that seems to be a general consenses here and in the general public. There is good reason for that - it does not come out of no where , it is earned. I will not publicly embarress anyone in particular here but contact me listen to my experiances - you will be ashamed. The reason I make you this offer is I do not want to see it go further - I want my grandkids to be able to look up to authorities I want the police to be respected and you should too. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/10/2008 2:27:50 PM | some cops deserve respect some are just plain crap. someone said some people thsat hate cops are the ones cops are looking for BS he's a fool. years ago, when I was a teenager, I got into a lot of trouble and I don't mean small stuff either. I was always getting arrested. don't for one minute think I hated these cops for it. I broke the law they were doing their jobs. they treated me with respect at all times. they got my respect back. several of them even became good friends of mine.(so long as they never asked me to turn anyone in) I can tell you, a few of them, no matter what ,I would not hesitate to step in and help them if I felt their life was in danger. today, I don't break any laws but have very little respect for cops today. most of them are just there for a check and are nothing more than a bunch of smart mouthed punks who apparently feel they need to give the victims a hard time and anything that happened to you was your fault. they treat the victims like criminals simply because they had to get off their dead asses and do some work. call a cop today and what does he say? "nothing we can do about " and thats the last of that they are nothoing more than a means for communities to make money by keeping cops busy handing out tickets instead of chasing criminals and getting rid of drug dealers. they will lie through their teeth even in court and think because they wear the badge judge is going to believe them and chances are he's right. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/12/2008 10:47:33 PM | I know cops that used to steal doughnuts I used to work in a bakery 3rd shift and every morning at 4am when the cops got off work they would come in, sit down, get their coffeee and head back to the kitchen and steal the hot donuts I just made. don't know if they just wanted the doughnuts or trying to intimidate me. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/13/2008 2:32:18 PM | | the place i'm referring to has community cops not state police and i believe that is the problem. i once had a ticket mailed to me. the charge was unknown with a fine of $25.00. no one could make me pay the fine because there was no charge. the police officer who sent it me told the judge to give him enough time and he would see if he could come up with a charge. he never did. i try at all times to abide by the laws. if i break a law i have no problem with the punishment. i had always raised my son to respect the law until we lived at this place. it was very hard to respect the law there and the police and other athorities knew that and they knew why. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? | Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/14/2008 11:08:25 AM | Amen, pen.
The police have a very hard job at times, yet so many still have compassion for people who are in need. I have had good experiences with the police when I had car trouble.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/16/2008 10:24:39 AM | | Well, my brother is a State Highway Patrolman and a lot of my friends are cops. That being said, I know how a lot of cops are. Most don't really care how or why, or if you even did break the law.... they just arrest you anyway. Their are some decent cops out there.... but not many. I myself have been abused by cops...... just to find out a week later that I was innocent....... if you live in North Carolina, watch out for Wake County police. It's all about the green people. That's mostly why anybody does anything. | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 4/16/2008 10:56:20 AM | I have found most of them to be controlling, abusive, self-centered liars whether on duty or not. They get away with breaking the law, they play favorites, and/or continuously bully certain people (this especially goes for small town cops). I have 2 or 3 cop friends but I keep them at a distance and I would never date one.
One incident that pretty much sealed the deal for me was a neighbor dispute that I was involved in. These people had friends wait outside my house for me to come home and verbally harass me and threaten me with bodily harm. When they SHOT AT MY HOUSE I called the police out to my house again. Dude gets out of his cop car, throws his lit cigarette ON MY CAR and proceeded to tell me that if *I* called them again over this that I would go to jail. I ended up having to move over all of this and I hadn't done anything wrong. Their dog jumped into my fenced in yard and attacked my dog. How that warrants shooting at my home is beyond me and to get away with it was despicable.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/7/2008 1:26:27 AM | "My question is "why"? Police Officers can be****,conceited, obnoxious, over bearing, nasty and mean..."
Please re-read that...When a cop has a bad day he can take it out on me. I swear to God I'm 21, I drive a porsche, and I get stopped every few weeks for a 'random' spot check. You deal with a bunch of cops that are pissed because they feel inadequate and then tell me I should praise the local police force...

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/16/2008 11:05:35 PM | cops just make me nervous, they give you that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach like your riding down a rollercoaster... doesnt matter if youve done anything wrong or not. the problem is some are good, and the rest were the bullies who picked on you in elementary school and throughout highschool. these people are supposed to protect us but some just want the power and are there to abuse it. I have been wrongfully charged and abused by officers in the past growing up in group homes, and being somewhat of a gutterpunk growing up. But i cant say that all are bad, because when i lived in my first group home one of the people helping to support us was an officer, who gave me and others in my home school supplies to help us academically. and even allowed us into his own home with welcome arms. like any profession, you have good and bad, i just think the bad sticks out more with officers because one bad officer can make quite a negative impact, especially when their actions inspire hate in youth who might otherwise have grown to respect them... in my opinion,. seeing an officer of the law should not start the fight or flight system we all have as a defense mechanism, but in my case it does. do i hate them?, no i don`t, because i know a lot of them take the job to protect good people and families, and keep violent offenders off the street. but do i fear them, yes i do, they scare the crap out of me and its been that way since i was arrested by brutes when i was ten years old.
still, if given a choice between the police existing, or not, i would chose to keep them around, not because i like them, which i dont, but because they do keep violent offenders off the streets.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/17/2008 8:16:10 AM | Well, I don't hate cops as a whole. Actually, I don't hate cops period. I hate the fact that they abuse their authority, harrass people, and LACK of respect for other peoples' rights. Most cops I have come across believe that just because they have a shiny little shield and a gun strapped on that they are above everyone. SCREW THAT.
About 3 weeks ago I was meeting someone to give them a puppy. Her SO was a cop and when I pulled up he starts walking around my car checking my inspection sticker, my tags, etc...even went so far as to run my tags through. In my state when tags are run, they can tell whether or not you are a felon. Which, I am. So, this jerk wad starts asking me if I have anything in my car he should know about. Now...he is making assumptions about me b/c I have a felony conviction from 6 years ago. And not even a drug related conviction at that! I was about to tell his girlfriend to give me the damn puppy back and that he could go get a damn warrant if he wanted to.
I paid my debt to society a long time ago....so why then am I still getting bothered by the cops? Ehhh....

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/19/2008 1:11:39 AM | Being involved in the criminal justice system for 6 years Ive had my fair share of run in's with cops. Most cops are decent hard working citizens just trying to get through the day, but there were the ocassional a**holes who threatned me, used unnecessary force while arresting me, harassed me, and were just plain rude and those ones I hate | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/28/2008 2:39:10 PM | | I love cops! I love a man in a uniform! My Dad was a cop for a while in L.A. I could never date a cop though, because I have habits, that are illegal, and he would be forced to arrest me, or loose my respect for not doing so. Either way, he would loose, and then, so would I! | |

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/28/2008 6:48:01 PM | I worked the street for four years then inside jails for 8 and I gotta say its the same thing every time people are nice if they need you crappy if they dont. Yet when I am out in town if I see someone in trouble I try to help and there is all sorts of people just walking in different directions ignoring it. I served in the military as well, before this wave of troop appreciation began no one really cared for the military unless they happened to be spending money in thier establishment. As a young lance corporal with a wife and child I qualified for welfare. Couldnt live in base houseing because there was a year and a half long waiting list.
Bottom line no one appreciates ANY profession until you need them, be it cop, military, plumber, mechanic, what ever. Its just due to a police officers authority and the fact that you see him only if A) you need him because something bad happened or B) your the one that is doing something bad and he is coming to put the matching bracelets on.
The only cops with attitudes I see is the young ones fresh outta the academy you can hear the creak of new leather a mile away. Its not that they have attitude its just that while on probation which is usually 18 months they dont have alot of discretion in how they do things because they dont know the job or have that experiance yet.
So cut some of these guys and gals some slack, they're more worried about pulling you over and getting shot then you are about getting your ticket.

| Why do so many people seem to hate cops? Posted: 5/31/2008 5:10:46 PM | ^^^^^ how eloquent, your comment sweet asian goes right along with the addage "treat others as you would wish to be treated" you placed in your profile.....oh the sweet irony.
and I love how some say most people or most cops, nurses, what ever you get the idea. How in gods good name did you get the chance to MEET MOST of the cops on the planet or even most of the cops in your area. You must have been a very naughty girl. And did you meet them in trouble or personally at a cop convention or something. I am curious.
this one is to crafty lady i dont want you to misunderstand in any way I am NOT saying that you are low class but having said that being a RN does not mean you cant be low class. I have met people from all walks of life in darn near every profession and NONE are immune from having low class people in them yes and I lump cops in there as well NO profession is immune. I know of several nurses convicted of stealing thier patience pain meds for self use or to sell on the street. When my ex's mother was passing away she was prescribed THC patchs for the Pain the patchs come in boxs of five the hospise nurse would come and the boxs would only contain 3. The nurse was just let go no crimal prosecution, pissed me off. So does stealing from the dieing count as low class I think it does, and yes she was an RN not an LVN.
Again no profession is immune to idiots but you dont lump the whole profession to due to the actions of a few.
