cops protect their own. my dad was a cop, and when he beat the ever livin' dog snot out of my mom, the police came to the house and hauled US (mom and kids) out and used scare tactics on my mother. in addition, a friend of mine is married to one of these troglodytes, and he beats her regularly. the only ppl who become cops are ex highschool bullies who don't have anyone left to pick on anymore.

My wonderfull N.Princess! I was sooooo very much like you when I was on the job. I used to train my people to the following sentence, and to do their job the correct way no matter what: "People come first in this world and you should treat others the way you would like to be treated. Be fair and honorable-not because you will get something out of it, but because it is the right thing to do". So I can proudly say, that the officers I trained work hard, and treat people fairly. How do I know? Because I've seen their work, and I've seen the results. Their Chief has called me on occasion and told me about their work ethic, and praise of them. So at least I know that those I passed this onto, took what I told them to heart. I couldn't train them all, but those I did are worthy of their uniform. Unfortunately, I've seen bad cops pass on to their trainees the very worst of who they are and how they perform. I know of one that is a supervisor on another department, and he and I were like oil and water. That guy could start a fight in a phone booth, and he'd love every minute of it. He's no d@mn good. His Chief knows about it, and he's tried to correct the problem, but do to the politics of the job, and so forth, his hands are tied. And even worse, this Chief is do to retire soon, and this very bad example will probably succeed him. Yes my N.Princess, I was very much like you, glad you are on the job. Because you see, over time, you may begin to feel the hate of the public. And although you try to harness it, it bleeds into your system, and then one day, you sit on the edge of your bed at the beginning of the day, and wonder why on earth you are bothering to go in. Knowing that not only the public is watching your every step, waiting for you to fail so they can jump. But also the people who work with you and are your supervisors looking to highlight even your littlest faults. God has been very good to me, and I made it through 26.5 years before I retired. Don't let this forum that seems to be bringing out some of the most vial personalities, disway you of being the very best you can be.

Because I have never run into one without some defect mentally.

I'm certain you can say this about anyone who runs around with you.
Most people who are cops come from homes where Daddy was not around
And you know this how? Certainly not from studying sociology.

Seems to be a common thread running through the negative and sometimes insulting posts........ignorance.....and in the case of some men like the one quoted above....undoubtedly, jealousy. Seems to me that his is an obvious matter of always feeling as being pushed around, never getting respect, or ever having authority. Face it you're at the bottom of the food chain and are whimpishly swiping at others more accomplished, powerful than you.

I've had cop friends all my life; the ones I've known are compassionate, athletic, courageous come from loving familes. They're good men.

However all IT workers are a$$holes; suffer from penis envy; this makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

My brother is a cop and he doesn't smell like bacon or eat donuts. Hehehehe! Police officers are first and foremost human beings. Any and all human beings are capable of being a$$holes, so it stands to reason that occasionally you will run into a cop you don't like.

Personal differences we can experience with one another and the way we deal with these differences can also be the problem. You may think someone is a real piece of work because your bad mood provided the obstacle that leads to the heated exchange or arguement that in turn leads you to think or say "what an a$$".

So I guess what I'm trying to say is not all cops eat donuts. Just love saying that.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

rtdhrny,
It only took me ten years on the Job to get to that point, of often dreading going in.
I am lucky to not have much family to bring the stress home to, but unlucky in that I lack a support system at home, of course besides my big goofy still growing Rottweiler, that has no sent me to ER twice for dog-related injuries (and just think where he would be without Obedience Training?).
Another person on this thread posted that I am too SENSITIVE for the Job. The post was deleted, because of a little extra heated banter going on. However, I think in a lot of ways she was correct. The job is taking its toll on my health, and aging me at a rate that I do not appreciate.
Seeing some extra difficult situations have had me come home crying into my pillow, because sometimes it is just too much.
Knowing there are ***holes and Hypocrites on the Job, when we should be held to a higher standard is frustrating and infuriating, but I cannot elaborate any more that that. Ever see "Serpico". I have told people that I may not snitch on you, but do never ask me to lie for you! Unfortunately, that is what you have to do while still walking the streets, because if you cross that Blue Line, then you have no backup, and just like Society, there are some bad seeds, and in a perfect world, they get caught and wind up in prison. Ever see The Sheild, where they cold-heartedly assassinated one of their own?
On that note, MOST of the people that I work with are very fine, dedicated, hard-working officers, although caring goes out the window after about five years, because no matter how hard we work, it is just the same nonsense and the same criminals day after day. Before the ink is dry on our reports, the criminal is back out.
I can think of four that I knew personally that wound up in prison, and all of them actually shocked me.
Regarding Police Brutality, some people embrace the rules of the streets, after seeing so much, and this is no justification for the police to act the same as street thugs, only with a badge and a gun, only to take them to jail afterwards.
On the other hand, it are those same heavy handed cops that also help to keep me alive. If I screamed for backup, they would come, and the criminals know backup is on the way, and they might subscribe to the same street values as the criminals.
Do I hold myself to a higher standard? Yes. Do I try to avoid seeing anything dirty? Yes.
If there are dirty people out there, then I do not want to see it or know about it! There are more GOOD COPS out there though, IMHO, that really want to make this a better place, support their families, and go home every day after work.
I partnered on several occasions with one of the men who went to prison. He never did anything dirty around me, and in fact, I had thought he was an effective police officer. We chased down people in stolen cars and made some good arrests together. It turns out that he was shaking down the dope boyz, with thousands in their pockets. He would take their money and kick them free, and eventually they started to complain, and he got caught by the FBI.
That made him a criminal, robbing other criminals of their dirty money, and I am sure he and many others are able to justify that to themselves. But that is not me.
I have told people that have gone to jail that not every one is arrested is a terrible person, just someone that made a bad choice, some worse than others.
Cops need to be held to a higher standard, I agree. But some of the best cops are those that are able to think like criminals, and that makes for a very blurry line.
Let's just say, nobody does anything dirty in front of me, and that is the most I can hope for, right now.

Yes of course I've seen both Serpico and Shield. Both very good in my opionion. When you have a particularly difficult day at work, you can tell me about it. I already know what kinda of crap you'll face. When someone you know commits suicide and you have to do not only the report, take all the photos, do the investigation and followup stuff, I've already done that, and I'll help you understand the whys and everything. I'm here for you and you can write me here or if you'd like, leave me another address, and we can talk there. And then if you feel comfortable about that, then we can talk on the phone.
It must've been very dissappointing to you to see an officer you knew, be arrested by the FBI. At least he was good enough to leave you out of it!! And yes, those guys that sometimes use a heavy hand when it comes to "disciplining" the hard headed criminal type out there really are needed. They do come to your aid when it matters, even though you know that sometimes they go overboard, remember, in the old days ('20's, '30's, '40's and so forth) that is what the public EXPECTED of cops. And because they did, most of them stayed in line do to fear of getting their ass kicked.
Now I sound like someone who meted out a lot of punishment in my time. Wrong!! I was in very few fights, and those I was in, I won. (Good Marine Corps training, thank you very much!!). But most of the time, I found that all I had to do was talk to people, like I would expect to be talked to, and they listened. Its called reasoning with people. I went to many, many domestics, and upon arrival, found one or both spouses ready to fight with ME! It is true what they say about attracting more bees with honey, then with anything else.
In regards to cops that do wrong when you are there. Well I found that I would just confront them with whatever they did, and tell them, that I'd not support them if they continued to do stupid sh!t. I flat out told them to stop, and never let me see them do anything even remotely close to their "stuff" ever again. I told them I just would not tolerate it, and believe it or not, they respected me, and agreed not to ever again. And I never had any problem with them, and they never failed to back me up.
Now, something a little less cop like. Why did you get yourself a Rottwieler?? They have a tendency to be mean!! I once found one out in my area of patrol, and she was just as sweet as could be. I gave her treats ( I always carried dog treats and stuff in my cruiser) and she got right into my car, without any problem. I later took her to a friends house until all avenues could be gone through to attempt to find an owner. Unfortunately while being borded at my friends house, she became suddenly and unrationally violent and attacked the man, crushing his genitals!
Needless to say, I had to pick her back up, and she then went to the dog pound. I hated doing that, because she was very sweet, to me anyway. After she was held for 10 days for observation, a Rottwieler group (people on the internet) came and picked her up. Hope yours has a better disposition! lol
Back to the cop stuff. . . . . I know what its like not to have a sounding board about the job. Its always good to have someone to talk stuff out with. The stresses of a normal day are bad enough. But, add a little more, and then maybe someone in the office b!tching about something they didn't like seeing you do, well that can make for a lovely day!! And then add sooooooo many calls coming at you that you can not possibly go to them all, and add that you must prioritise them by closest to you, most serious threat and so forth, and again, it just adds to the fun!! I think I'm beginning to sound like I miss the job. Don't bet on it! This morning when you and all the other fine officers got into your cars to go to work, and it was snowing like it would never stop, I took one look out the window, got dressed, took my dogs out for a little walk, came back in, got back into bed. Thats what I said . . . . got back into bed!!!! Now, do I sound like I want to go back?? lol Be safe, D.

AAARGH,

I do use paragraphs, but on this site unless you double space between them, it comes off as a giant blur.

Yesterday, a woman with two infants, when it was under thirty dregrees outside, handling her babies alone, pulled into her driveway, and could only handle one baby at a time by herself. She took the one infant into the house, which took a moment and a half, and when she walked outside, she observed the vehicle with her 8 month-old child being driven down her driveway. She called 911, and the suspects abandoned the car with the baby, stole another car and a third vehicle.

The arrestees were a fourteen year-old, a sixteen year-old, and an "adult", on a car stealing spree! Fortunately the baby was recovered quickly and intact, due to the response of POLICE!

Yep, that is just another reason to hate us, huh?

AAARGH, I do not know what you have been through that makes you hate police so much, but please stop judging me, because I am one of the good guys!
=======================================================
Before I left work, I had a heart-to-heart with a veteran very close to retirement, about the job.

The Job has aged me. Kevin told me that the only way to not let that happen is to accept the internal politics and accept that there is nothing you can do to make a difference, more or less, and just come to work and do your job as it comes. I personally believe that most cops that come onto the job come to make a difference, and he is not the first boss to advise me that I cannot save the world or even a portion of it. Add in the internal politics, plus the hardships we see, plus the squashed ideals with a family to protect, and you have the other side of the Real World~~someone that just wants to go home and has become completely jaded.

I told him that I cannot live a life of ignorance and I wear my heart on my sleeve. I have had many people say thank you, that they are glad they got me.

But yesterday, I talked to a different friend. She was making $25 an hour at a good job, but she is also fortunate to have a husband with a good job. So she is working at an animal rescue shelter, scooping poop, and mopping cages with bleach, but also exercising the animals and giving them love and helping to rehabilitate them for potential adoption. She said, "I am lucky, because I am able to live my dream, of working with animals!"
We have had many talks about whether or not Cop is my calling, and he has surprisingly encouraged me, while encouraging me to go my own way if that is what is best for me.

If I had the means to support myself, I would most defintely live the life Laura lives, and one way or another, devote myself to abandoned critters that are the result of ignorant aand inhumane humans.
For the meantime, I devote as much of my time and energy to Animal Rescue as I can!
And if you want to ask me about the needy children, well I already have an answer for you: I think I learned about birth control in 1980 or 1981, and the US is not a country that has no concept nor access to brith control. Critters are not educated to have that type of knowledge.

I think people should need a license to be parents and be screened before they are allowed to have a pet! But that is just my two cents.

The level at which you "hate" cops is relative to the amount of illegal activity you are engaged in.

I don't think so. I had a good friend who was a cop. Nice guy, and I've known a few others too. Something about the job makes them never fully trust you, so in return I can never fully trust them. No matter how good a friend this guy became, there was always a wall I could never cross to true brotherhood with him. I don't know where it comes from but I think it has to do with having to deal with suspects.

WOW! I am not going to get into some of the preceding friction, if I do not have to.

Instead, let me tell you about my last night at work:

One of my assignments was for a vacant rental property that had been broken into, and all of the copper piping had been stolen, which is very common in this area. There was no heat and our temperatue was around 28 degrees F. She began jumping up and down and admitted that she needed to use the bathroom.

I live my life by the roll of the dice, by my instincts, by my Spirit Guide.

I told her that I had viewed enough for my report (I still needed her information) so why don't we go to a restaurant around the corner so she could relieve herself and we could proceed. She did not know the area, so she followed me. I took her to the nearest restaurant, and BOTH of their bathrooms were out of order...glad I didn't ask to see the kitchen! But there was a bar/night club next door that I took her into, mainly for her protection, because I had a gun, and I am not allowed into a bar except under official business. If she had sat there by herself, well there may have been greater official business. I then took he report under more comfortable circumstances. It are things like these that keep me being a cop, because every time I get a surprised thank you, it makes me stay another day.
So, thank you for thanking me!

I think that cops should be able to get more physical, more able to do their jobs. If the cops were able to kick your stupid ass for just drinking and driving, even if your being cooperative alot less people would be commiting crimes. I personally say taze every single person that gets arrested, no matter what they do. Maybe we could actually reduce crime in this country if the police were given more rights than the worthless criminals they have to arrest.

I'm not responding to anyone in particular;just speaking my mind. I don't particularly like cops, but they are a necessary evil. Just about all of them I've ever come into contact with have super egos. Part of this must come with the job. The rest kind of grows on them,as they are in a position of authority, and I believe that they abuse this position...the elite. I also feel that there are 2 sets of rules-one for us and one for THEM,and as they are public servants, this should not be. It is truly amazing that whenever you have a confrontation with a cop, especially in court, they are never wrong, and a judge will never rule against them. When confronting a cop in court, you have 2 strikes against you before you even begin. I've personally had cases in traffic court where I've been railroaded by the cop. You have to go through unbelievable lenghts to put up a defense while they just have to show up-it's in the bag. I've won some, and I've lost some, and, for the most part,I don't care for them and never will.......As for drinking and driving, anyone caught intoxicated while driving should immediately lose their license..If you wish to kill yourself, you have that right. Just don't take anyone else with you.

YIKES! I miss a couple of days and anarchy breaks loose.

Sounds to me like venom and animosity and hatred are key components to Society, and not just cops.

Can't we all just get along?

=========================================================
I will admit that there is a certain amount of double standards for cops in law enforcement, but I try to level the playing field by being equally decent to most everybody I encounter. Perhaps the title should be modified to"...MOST cops!"

Personally, I despise hypocrisy, and I strive not to be a hypocrite.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Last night, I was at a hospital, guarding a prisoner who had a bad case of Jailitis (someone who knows the system and wanted to get out of jail for a while). Once again, there was nothing wrong, but they gave her a prescription for Motrin, because our Jailers cannot administer ANY drugs without prescription, and that was my night at work. OUR tax dollars at work!

I am generally decent with the criminals I guard, and I have learned to tell the difference betwwen someone legitimately sick, and those that are just spending our tax dollars so they can get a bed in the hospital, over a cot in a cell. I will not elaborate on that, but let's just say that this woman was faking it, and she would not have been nominated for an Academy Award, either. I treat every body like a person, until they give me reason not to!

She had been in the hospital for over four hours and refused to give a urine specimin because she "couldn't go." That was all that was remaining.

The doctor, a very sweet, young Asian woman (who also was nearly done with her shift) told this woman that everything else was done, but they NEEDED a urine sample. The prisoner ignored her and kept her eyes shut. The doctor practically begged this woman, and she is obviously a young doctor that has not dealt with too many felons with Jailitis. She begged that if the woman did not get up then they would have to insert a catheter for what they needed to complete her evaluation.

The doctor thought this woman was really in that much pain, so she attempted to help the woman up, to avoid the catheter. The woman glared at her and cussed her out! At this moment, I told the doctor, just use the catheter! Frankly, this woman really was a piece of garbage, IMHO.

The doctor is a very sweet young woman. She gave the prisoner another chance, even after the earful she received. The somewhat older male doctor said that after seeing so many fakers (like her), if he asked her if she had to go yet and got cussed out the way she did, it would have been catheter time, for a prisoner male or female. Whatever you are trying to hide, you are interfering with my job, and I do not have time to waste on this nonsense!

That anecdote has nothing to do with anything here, except for that is how many of the people are that we encounter at least in my municipality.
========================================================
HOWEVER...while I was there, one of the nurses approached me with a quesion (we develop a rapport) about DV. She asked that if a person was witnessed beating another person, why wouldn't they be arrested. I told her about how arrest is the preferred policy and about procedures and my successes in at least getting the case to go to court by getting papers issued. I forget what her exact words were, but something to the effect that the culprit was a person of authority.

She didn't say, but I got the impression that the person was a ranking police official. Let's just say that is a report that the supervisors would order someone besides me to write, and the writer would leave me out of the report. Further, if it was a person with a high rank, it is also a person of prominence, with a superb income AND a gun. The Boys Club wants to protect each other, and it is just a cycle of snakes eating each others tails, and rewarding each other for their loyalty. Thus, now we venture into Politics.

HEAVY SIGH.....

HOWEVER,

I can say that when I lived in Florida, I was stopped several times by officers of both the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the Osceola County Sheriff's Department for no reason. The times when I lived in JAX, they always made the excuse that I looked so young, and they thought I might of been a truant skipping school/or violating the city's curfew ordnance if it was during the nighttime. Just walking around during the day/or night shouldn't be enough of a reason/provocation to stop someone and do lengthy warrant checks (they usually lasted about 10 or so minutes and I always had to keep my hands on the hood of the cruiser...it was always rather embarassing when people go by and gawk at me sorta like "What'd he do?") Personally, I sorta wish now I had launched legal action against the repeated and unprovoked harassment by the JSO, but being about 22 years old at the time, it never really hit on me to do that.

Another time in JAX, approximately April of 1998, they actually stopped me at gunpoint at a intersection, Powers and University for those of you knowledgeable of the area. (they later told me that I had fit the description of a bank robber), but initially they refused to tell me anything, which really peeved me off .It wound up taking a ride in the back of a cruiser to the JSO headquarters for the detectives to determine I was not the one they were looking for.

Fast forward about five years later, when I was living in a subdivision in Kissimmee (a Orlando suburb), a male and female detective of Osceola County stopped me as I was taking a walk, and yet again refused to tell me anything. This time around though, I pretty much blew up when they eventually made the excuse that there was some burglaries in the neighborhood and that, this is a exact quote coming up: "I looked like I didn't belong in the neighborhood". That point I just lost it, and they were whining that I was becoming "combative".....well, they wonder why! My neighbors were out, and the detectives could of confirmed that I lived in the one house, but they refused!

Ever since then, I have despised cops.

I never have hated cops. I was raised to respect them, that they are there to help others and so far in my lifetime, I've found that to be so true. One instance only, I could write tons... but this really blew my mind...

I had a gig one evening but knew I had some Christmas shopping and errands to do before "showtime", so I shopped, ran my errands then made my way to the club. My packages I'd bought were in the back seat of my van. At closing time, I went to get into my car and leave when I'd found that I had locked my keys in my car. Got into my purse to get my extra set, only to then realize that I had switched to a smaller leather purse that matched the jacket I was wearing for our gig that night, a purse that was small and held "very little", therefore I had left my extra set in my other purse at home. A couple of police officers were driving through the parking lot, checking things out as this paticular club had a bad incident happen the weekend before at closing time. I flagged them down and told them that I had locked myself out of my van. Not only did they (give me a ride home)!! Yes!!.. but they also told me not to worry about my packages that they would patrol the parking lot through that night to make sure no one broke into my van!! Now, I don't know about you, but to me, that was VERY nice of them and something they didn't have to do at all! Oh! And.. btw.. both policemen were married and one of them was a female officer incase anyone is thinking.. "Uh huh, men officers helping out a woman." And.. I had never met either of them in my life.

Of course there are "bad" apples in all bunches of work forces, but my hat is off to those men who often put their lives on the line to keep us others safe and also to their families who never know when they leave the house if they're going to return home safely.

A (personal) .. Thank you to all of you (good) officers out there and an early

wish!

UniqueLadyLov: I'm just curious darlin, why didn't these officers offer to use a door device (such as a slim jim) to unlock your vehicle instead of taking you home and guarding your packages?

Where I used to work, we would have had you sign a form saying we (officers) weren't responsible for damage in trying to unlock your vehicle, and after you did, would have made an attempt to get in for you, after verifying you did own the vehicle of course. I always told people that, "I will treat your vehicle as my own, and will treat it gently". "If I can't get into it, I will tell you so, and then we'll go from there". Now adays, its much for difficult to get into cars. Car manufacturers have built in blocks (with car doors) that guard against theft, and also keep officers with special tools from gaining entry.

Also, if the vehicle has electric door locks and windows, it just better not to attempt entry with the tools, because damage can easily result. I can't tell you how many times I'd be off duty somewhere, and observed someone locked out. I'd help them get back in, but I had to be certain that they owned the car first. But a phone call to my dispatch center helped in that case. Anyway, I just wanted to know in Unigueladylov's case why they didn't attempt to get in first. Later, D.

Personally, I look at police as equals to the rest of us, they aren't gods, they aren't all powerful all knowing higher beings. They are human beings with a job...keeping the peace, and up holding the law. I will respect them like I respect all other people, who if treat me right, I will treat them right too. Equals. I don't go out looking for trouble, so, I expect not to be hassled.
I admire them for standing up for those who can not protect themselves, for putting themselves in the line of danger, but I admire anyone who does this, not because they are getting paid for it, but because they are decent human beings. I thank those who do thier job well, but I'm not kissing anyone's a$$ either.

just my humble opinion.

Hi rtrdhrny,

I'm sorry, I did fail to say that they did call in to check and see if it was my vehicle and also, I do have electric door locks. That's why they didn't make the attempt, as they said they were afraid they would damage my window or windows.

I actually wouldn't have needed the ride home if my girlfriend who I was talking to out in the parking lot after everyone had gone, hadn't driven off and left me standing there before I even got into my car. Duhh! I personally don't drink but she does and I guess maybe her mind was just a little clouded. Come to think of it, no, I don't think it was the drinks, her mind is a little clouded most of the time.

Anyway, like I said, I'm just very thankful for the kind policemen.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?

I see a lot of ... defensive posts in here .... this is supposed to be why do people seem to hate == then in the actual question ... dislike cops ...... not .... this is why you should like us ... ..... just accept the fact ... and try listening to the reasons....

to the cop who said ... go ahead ... we don't care if you hate us ..
well your a sorry young fool and need a lot more training before you will ever be a good cop.

Everyone likes good cops ... except the bad cops and hard core criminals. [that not too many people in comparison to all of society.]

arrogant cops ... well ... they sure piss off young people ... for a start.
...................... harrassment is probably the biggest reason [ false assumptions by rookies]- not always but often. ... some cops just seem to have a chip or prejudice for certain people... this bugs those people and their friends ... [sickness spreads]

Like previously stated .... it the distrust thing that is also large ...
................... you never fully trust because you feel they never trust. ... tit for tat.
................... there really is no solution to that one.

as far as illegal activities .... do you take pens home from work without asking?
Do you ever speed? forget to signal your turn or lane change ... mister policeman?

petty as it may be ... your conscience feels guilt ... so flashing red lights bug people.
if your behind the lights... you get those vibes labled onto your presence ... sorry but true.

there really is no arguement or defence ... its just feelings ... part of the job protecting society is that you are no longer fully integrated into society ... you sort of get put on the outside yourself ... to chase all those others that are outside and considered dangers.

Most adults are not in that ... hate group ... but are not in a lets socialize group either.
marijuana ... does play a role ... so does blowing over the limit or deals on things.
even downloading stuff from the internet can be a reason for seperation... sorry ... I know you are good people in general just like us ... but we don't trust eachother and without trust you can't have a good relationship.

BTW, I've been a cop for the last 18 years and I think I know a thing or two, I still get training since the learning process never ends, but thanks for calling me young. Fool????... maybe, but I think I'm a good cop.

While reading the threads posted on POF I've noticed that many people seem to dislike if not outright hate Police Officers. My question is "why"? Police Officers can be****,conceited, obnoxious, over bearing, nasty and mean... just like people in any other profession, but can you really imagine our world without someone to protect it from those who don't or won't respect the rights of others? I can't I'm proud to be a Police Officer and I think I'm a damned good one,I believe that in all things I should treat others as I would want to be treated (I think that's called "The Golden Rule") and I try to teach this to younger Officers when I train them. How do you feel about Law Enforcement Officers as a whole?

Oh ... old cop .... here is your post .... where did you say that ?

I said go ahead and hate us

Now ... maybe you did say that ... but it wasn't your original post.
I stopped reading the comebacks for that didn't feel like much of a discussion ....
it was more just reactionary to hearing things you didn't want to hear.
If you don't want the reasons ... don't ask.

the reference I was making ... was from a young person's post ....
[K town] not yours ... and I was writing to his attitude.
I tend to only read the first one or two posts from any one person ... since I'm not here to read bickering and chat... If you can't state your idea and answer in two posts then something is wrong with the idea or question. ... or your chatting ... or bickering.

you may try to teach the young ones ... but do they really learn it very fast.
what is the drop out rate of Cops ? I've never heard any stats on that.
what is the kicked out rate? Never heard any on that either.
these things would paint a better picture as to how good the weeding process is.

I know you are trained better than the past ... 18 years isn't very long to me...
I've been in my trade 35 years.

My message still stands.

Thorb,
Cops do a lot of good in a world that is getting worse and worse.

I do not agree with the attitudes that some of Us carry.

However, we are also the ones that run into burning buildings to save lives, and rush towards the man with the gun. Society is also flawed, and it just keeps getting worse.

When I was in school, kids did not carry guns to school, and now we have Columbine Syndrome. Crack did not exist when I was a kid, and the worst that anyone I knew did was some marijuana.

I feel like an old fogey, but it is a different world. The laws protect the criminals.

However, I still maintain my Humanity. I had two young girls, 18 and 21, in my car the other day. Here is my synopsis of the story:
Girl 21 had a fiancee that was a dirtbag, and her 18 year-old girlfriend and her male friend were hanging out. I do not know why they got pulled over, but everything got worse from there.
I was an assist car because one of my chief qualifications as a female officer is to check female prisoners. These were decent girls, especially the younger one.

The one girl had a gun in her purse and the other girl was charged with possession of marijuana. While the girls were crying in the back seat of my car, I believed them. Ultimately, the guy who had the marijuana claimed it. Our suspicion is that the one male actually owned the gun, slid it into his Girl's purse. The best I could offer her was to advise her on how to get that expunged.
The girl with the marijuana needed to call long distance for a ride, so I let her use my cell phone. I advised her not to hang out with knuckleheads, because they will bring you down.

Often, I may be a little bit too blunt. But I really do mean well. I do not ever mean to scare people, but I want them to be wise and to be aware!

As an urban police officer, we do experience a lot of crap. I have seen and experienced things that no one should have to see, which are conditions in which many people live.

I do not want to know many of the things I know, and often wish I could have remained naive.

Don't hate all of us! We see death and evil and complete lack of humanity in humans. There is corruption in every corner of the Universe. We see children and elders abused, innocent people terrorized and shot and sliced. We fight with the evil-doers to protect Society. We are crucified by the citizenry and by the media and by the politicians, and there are also the internal politics that are much defined by the external politics.

Yet, we still keep running towards the man with the gun...???
