When my friends and I have our occasional dinner parties, we'll have wine with supper. As a result, if a guy does not drink at all or drinks on occasion, like I do, that is absolutely fine with me. It's an ideal, indeed. Because of my own low alcohol consumption as well as because of past experiences with heavy drinkers I very much doubt that I would consider a long-term relationship with somone who drank daily, heavily or who has problems related to alcoholism. Nevertheless, one never knows were he the type of guy who enjoyed a beer or glass of wine to unwind and that this daily consumption does not cause any type of problems in the relationship or towards his responsibilities, it would likely be ok with me. After all is said and done, all things need to be evaluated in their own particular context. | |

I don't drink often myself, so it's nice to be in the company of someone who isn't going to be hanging around bars all the time or anything like that. There's nothing wrong with not drinking and kudos to you for making that choice!

Its actually turned me off of guys who drink completely. Even socially. I think a guy who doesn't drink is responsible and knows who he is. Alchol in my opinion makes monsters out of the best of men. If she doesn't want to date you because you don't drink, its her loss. There are lots of women out there who don't drink and guy's don't turn them down so why should a women turn a guy down? She is just silly and doesn't know what she's missing. | |

They would not feel that way if they did not have a problem with alcohol & feel paranoid like I am counting their drinks. Clearly their problem & if they are not a vibrational match to your "upgrade," let them go & move on. Then people show up that are more suited to you b/c there is room for them in the absence of the others.

In all the cases I've experienced or am aware of via friends, invariably a recovering alcoholic vs a social, occasional drinker end up having some bumps in the road. The couple of men I've dated in such a scenario, no matter the tenure of his chosen sobriety would say they were fine with a woman they dated drinking but eventually they would speak up and say something - "you're having another glass of wine tonight?" (and the open bottle had been in the fridge for a couple of weeks!)
I've known of others who fell off the wagon while dating, even when the partner didn't drink... yet a huge burden of guilt and/or feelings of failure became a wedge in the relationship.
If somebody just doesn't drink because they don't like the taste of alcohol, healthy lifestyle, etc that tends to be different. Success when there's opposition on any subject between partners involves preference, honesty and good communication without one imposing their own expectations on another. | |

Posted: 12/16/2007 2:04:17 AM | I am not a big drinker anymore, I may have a a drink every fw months, it just seems that the older i get the less i want to drink. For me theres a few reason's, One reason is, the friends that I drank with in the past have stoped drinking too, for whatever reason's, So that is why my second reason is that I am not going to go out to a bar and drink and when i dont have a DD, its not wroth it. Its not fun fun to drink by your self anyways..
The less people drink , the less dui's there will be and thats a good thing | |

A--drugs are illegal, B--using them is even dumber than drinking too much, and C--it is entirely possible for a recovering drunk to control it. I used to drink a LOT, binge drunk that I was, but now, I can have one drink, and be totally fine stopping there. So in short, don't generalize! | |

generally I have found that when telling a woman I do not drink at all - the response is more often than not

We both drunk soft drinks. I can enjoy myself without alcohol, in fact, with it I often just get morbid , depressed, tired or end up embarassing myself so I'd rather not. | |

Ok yeah back in the day i drank, but i have a kid. A teenager now and i had to be responsible. So in all of her life ive rarely went out and drank. i have went to bars a few times a year with some friends but either didnt drink or i got a ride there and took a cab back home. At new years im usually home with her and so i might buy a bottle of wine or some peach snapps. Ive been wanting a wine cooler lately so i may go buy a few of those next week.
I think most of the guys ive dated in the last several years werent drinkers and maybe had a beer or something once in a great moon. Instead of you asking why she wont date you since you dont drink you should be asking yourself why you want to date someone that drinks and wont associate much with a non drinker. Shes wanting a party friend or your just not it. I bright she's not think. LMAO | |

Hi Dj. I'm also a non-drinker, and I'm sure some of those who have an issue with it drink too much, but I think even some of those who drink very responsibly have an issue with it because they're afraid they'll be assumed a drunk and/or they're afraid of making you uncomfortable. Either way, it is their issue and I would let it remain so. Somewhere out there I'm sure there is a nice woman who will gladly take you just as you are. Good luck! | |

I was concerned this was really going to limit my options, finding a non drinking woman. Happy that is not the case, the only people who are "uncomfortable" of someone who does not drink are people who drink alot/often. Who are obviously not for me anyway. If you have to drink to be social and have fun I am sure there is someone out there for you too...It is great to know there is so many woman out there that are "comfortable" being with a guy who does not drink. Posted: 8/3/2008 1:53:08 AM | I personally don't drink, do drugs and I quit smoking a year and a half ago.  It was tough, but I did it. Now that I've put that dirty habit behind me and my body is slowly cleaning itself out, I choose not to add anything else that is unhealthy to my body. I've even cut out alot of red meat from my diet and let me tell you....I love prime rib! LOL Only problem is, I've been 95 lbs my entire life and when I quit smoking, I went from 95 to 140 in a matter of weeks! If you don't know what size that is...its a size ZERO jean to a size TWELVE. That's huge! The weight is coming off slower than it went on, but I keep at it.
Anyway, alcohol definitely is not good for your liver and it's my choice not to drink. I am however, not opposed to my date having a drink or two, as long as he isn't getting DRUNK. I have absolutely NO tolerance for drunks. I don't mind watching them make fools of themselves, I just don't want to date one! ha ha  | |

I don't drink alcohol, at all...and I have found every single woman I've ever dated to be very polite & sensitive around that issue.....in other words, they may say..."Well, I like to have a drink with dinner, or what not...would that bother you?"
Not at all....I usually urge them to 'drink up'. and be merry.....

I applaud you for finding that you have skills and personality and lack of peer pressure
is plenty to enjoy yourself.I too am a very musical person and find a good beat is sufficient to really be happy.Music is like a drug ,which I don't do either.
Your girlfriend knows nothing about herself or the simple joys of life.You will always be a winner as you wont be making spectacles of yourself you will later regret,you wont kill people while driving your car.It takes a big man to take the stance you have
and any girl/woman with any intelligence will realise this and feel safe and delighted to go out with you. | |
