| What do women think of guys who dont drink??
Posted: 11/20/2006 11:29:41 PM | I wonder how many of these people who state it doesn't matter if he doesn't drink have ever been with a recovering alcoholic. There is a big difference in someone who doesn't drink vs. someone who should NOT drink, and does not drink because they are recovering.
OT: I prefer to date someone who drinks socially. I like to have drinks from time to time and I am not at all comfortable doing so in the company of someone who can not drink or does not choose to drink.

The answer that I generaly give is that I'm alergic to alcohol. Some people are. I am
and that's the truth. Alcohol has very adverse affects on me. The actress Terri Moore
said, "If you have to drink to be sociable, you're not social drinking." She said that
back in the 1960's. Terri Moore was right on the money. No one needs to drink, but
we all need friends. Drinking never creates friendships. But drinking can and dose
destroy friendships. It's realy no ones business why I don't drink, but my own. Any
one that makes a big issue,as to why I don't want any more than to just be friends,
probably would'nt be much of a friend to start with, and probably leave you eventualy
any way. Perhaps certain women who 'Just want to be friends' with a man who dose'nt
drink has sereous problem with alcohol themselves.
It is possible to have a lot of fun and not drink. Some people can't. That is a cold hard
fact. Some people die having fun. That's called alcoholism. It's a disease that will
kill a lot of people, and young people.

people ask me is it a medical condition ( they say "why whats wrong with you )
I have moral objection against alcohol
but i do not begrudge someone else drinking - its their choice
as for being a designated driver
fark that I am not being used as anyones taxi -- go ahead and drink but get your own cab ride home | |

Alcohol is such a part of society that some people cannot think of going a day without a drink. I will very rarely drink as I know what affect it has on me and I dont like it.
What I wonder is these people that find this objectional are perhaps uncomfortable with an individual who doesnt need to "medicate" away their days? And if that is the case, they are probably better not in your life! | |

I went to a bar this past weekend to meet up with a girl that a family member was trying to set me up with. She was cute, I was attracted. However, this girl brought her posse of 10 GF's and she proceeded to get absolutely smashed and wasted with them...
I emailed her a few days later telling her I was not interested in her... I would have been, but the way she acted is not at all the type of woman I'm interested in... I assumed the way she acted she was not interested in me anyways...
I'm just not a big fan of alcohol, and hope to find a woman someday who is ok with that... | |

Seems in social situations most people are cool theres always some though but that applies to most situations in life.Sometimes is a deal breaker sometimes not.I would make a good DD was one of the last comments.I dont mind driving at all but I dont like to be taken advantage either.I dont know where to begin to rely to all individuals who have replied all I can say is every reply is so unique as the person who sent it all in a good way | |

Seriously, I wouldn't date a woman that didn't drink, so I can completely understand her point of view.
You can say what you like about having a good time without drinking, but it's not the same thing at all. I LOVE having a couple of bottles of wine with dinner, talking away for hours, and relaxing the inhibitions. If I was on a first date with a woman that didn't drink that wouldn't happen. Alcohol helps you get carried away by the moment, live in the now, forget about tomorrow.
It drives me crazy how so many people equate drinking with alcoholism. They are not the same, and not everyone who enjoys getting drunk is a drunk.
If your date was anything like me, I'm sure she's looking for someone who can deal with having a job and a real life, but can handle having a drink and a good time too.
Anyway, there's nothing like good drunk sex. It rocks!    | |

It didn't bother me at all! As long as a man isn't judging me because I like to have a drink or two .... I won't judge him!
Plus... I like the fact if he's driving ...he hasn't been drinking!
I had a girlfriend that had a HUGE problem if a guy didn't drink...............but I think that's because she had a DRINKING problem! | |

Drinking put people on a different "level"
Drinking makes stupid jokes funny.....ugly people look good.....and sexual inabitions fall to the wayside.
As a NON drinker for 3 years now(ocassional slips)...I've found it very difficult to "be as fun" as i was when i was a steady drinker.
I'm still fun..but hanging out at bars just doesn't do it for me anymore.
If i drink....well...Bars are a blast.
I get drunk....and have a blast "working the room"
I find women (usually the ones freash out of a long relationship) Want to "cut loose"
Feel what they've been missing. (Partying)
They seek out"fun" men.
This usually goes hand in hand with guys who drink.
Stupid jokes.....cocky ...confident..all brought on by the boose.
Many times....these same drunk funny .cocky.confident men....are ***holes when sober.
So.there you have it ladies....
Your drinking buddys(guys)......are the loosers when sober.
But you love then when they drink.
Wonder why relationships are fleeting..........
Now.....Us guys who don't drink.....well.....we get to listen to the drinker girls who whine that they can't find anyone decent....and the last guy they met at the bar..is only interested in sex.
Hahahaha....
And you wonder why i'm selective....and rather cuddle at home with a special someone.

Posted: 11/21/2006 9:40:18 AM | My boyfriend doesn't drink (because of diabetes), and I don't care. I don't drink that much myself, but sometimes we go out and I have a glass of wine or two while he has iced tea or a non-alcoholic beer.
I don't see why it should matter.
I'd rather date someone who doesn't drink at all than someone who's a drunk.

Posted: 11/21/2006 9:49:30 AM | I'm basically a non-drinker, and I have found that people are uncomfortable with my decision, especially within a social setting. I can go to a bar and happily drink pop/water but I hate spending a good part of the evening fending off unwanted drinks, and explaining my choice. I can laugh, joke, converse and dance without alcohol and I have no issues with those who like to imbibe a little. I'm a great DD!
I may (on that blue moon special occasion) have a glass of wine or a sip of someone's drink (I do ask first, lol), but the instances are few and far between.
I am not a recovering alcoholic; I have never been in a relationship with a person with a drinking problem; there is no trauma associated with alcohol. I generally just don't drink. It doesn't make me a better person than one who does, it's just my choice.

I'm not into the pub/bar scene. So therefore meeting someone who doesn't drink I think would probably open up avenues to doing things that I find more interesting such as going to the theatre, being active, talking over coffee etc... | |

Makes it difficult for a guy to know where to meet me....LOL....No Bar and No Starbucks....I also quit smoking 2 years now....but if someone else smokes,drinks, or coffee it does not bother me in moderation of course and I never judge them for it. I understand how you feel
It is for health and choices. Most people list in their profiles ..........drinking or no drinkng. So maybe they should read that part..before pursuing a relationship.....just a thought....

Posted: 11/21/2006 10:46:13 AM | i prefer a man who either doesn't drink or drinks socially. if he needs to have a drink to "loosen up" then i'd rather he saw a therapist to find out why he can't loosen up naturally. if the man is an "alcoholic", i would probably not date him, unless he was an active AA member (preferably several years), as i don't appreciate "dry drunks" either.
if a person refuses to drink because of their past experiences with another's alcoholism and if that person starts becoming a control freak, then i suggest that person get to al anon for friends and family members. alcoholism is an insidious disease and a family disease. you don't have to be the drinker to suffer from the affects upon your soul, particularly if you were raised in an alcoholic home.
many people who stop drinking in AA or NA, then attend al anon to deal with the people who still drink in their lives and also to deal with their own "triggers" around drinking. as a musician, this is a particular issue. i am a jazz crazed person, as well as a dancer, and know many musicians who have dealt with their own drinking issues and wanting to still be part of the "scene". | |

Posted: 11/21/2006 1:16:46 PM | I prefer a guy who drinks very little, but I guess I like being able to go out and play a game of pool over a drink or two. I wouldn't pass up a nice guy because he doesn't drink, whereas I would pass up a guy who drinks heavily. And there is always something nice about never having to decide who the DD is going to be (because I won't drive after 2 drinks).
Moral here is that is depends on the woman, the right woman for you won't care that you don't drink, and will be confident enough in herself to not have to get you liquored up before she feels comfortable with you. | |
