Posted: 12/30/2006 8:29:46 PM | Srtats4, I also do not drink. I too am a recovering alcoholic. I am straight forward with it when asked. I even put in my profile that I am in recovery. I have had a few compliments out of the blue from woman that have contacted me first...not that any of them went any further. In fact most never reply to my messages at all afterwards. Oh well. I have a problem with booze it cost me a lot and took a lot from me, but you know what? I am working on it all. Yes I go to AA a LOT. And yes I like to go. I have not had a drink in some time now. Good luck to you and don't let the conceited ones bring you down. I am quite certain if they were honest like WE are they would admit to a few skeletons too.

It was something I chose not to do anymore for that reason. Eventually I fell away for drinking being something I needed to do to have a good time when out socializing. I haven't any problem with someone else having a drink if on a date with them... it's a personal choice. | |

Posted: 12/30/2006 9:44:08 PM | If someone doesn't drink, they won't be around long. Medical experts say that an average person can go no more than 4 days without water. In fact, they recommend drinking everyday.
So, I wouldn't want to get involved with someone that didn't drink, either. Why invest the emotional energy into a relationship when that person won't be alive at the end of the week. Just doesn't make sense.

Posted: 12/31/2006 12:19:53 AM | I prefer men who don't drink. I don't have a problem with people that do, but for some it can become a problem. I rarely have a drink, and know i don't have a problem with alcohol or drugs, but i don't know if others do.
Most guys i meet don't drink at all. Yeah, isn't that great?

Posted: 12/31/2006 12:14:38 PM | Well I'm not going to lie...I enjoy going out to my favorite club....I love dancing and that's why I go out....I drink when I go out but there has been many times that I've also been the DD....I don't need to drink to have a good time. It wouldn't bother me if a guy does not drink...so long as he is sociable and is able to have a good time....unfortunately, some people who go out and don'tdrink are just bumps on a log....they don't have fun....
I know my head sure hates it the next morning when I do decide to drink....like tomorrow morning... | |

i think its great for anyone to abstain if they choose....
i too have not touched alcohol since i was 18, (now44).not for any sordid reason just pure freedom of choice and being an individual as a young adult ......and way before the drink drive campaigns were even in.....there was pressure and stigma attatched to it along the way and often at xmas the ol talk of..."oh just have one, go on"...and also sumtimes the question of "how could u possibly not drink"..."how do u enjoy urself then"?......the funny thing is ...there are such things as personalities and witt....and when i go out i have a ball...anyone that knows me would say i have heaps of fun and they do too in my company...hehe with me the whole evening on juice or water.........the thing these folk did not quite grasp was if u r not a drinker ....u r not a drinker....so hats off to any guys like me who have stood out from the crowd against all the banter n comments and stuck to what they want to do....dont let peer pressure or silly comments pressure u to do otherwise.
it is easier nowadays with the drink driving issues and folk dont seem to bat an eyelid when u say u r not drinking,but it was not the same years ago.
my friends are all cool about it and it has never ever stopped me attracting the oppisite sex...hehe just think of the money they save !!! hehehe........and i for one would never be put off of a guy who did not drink............so from one fellow teetotaller to u others,guys or gals....hats off to ya xx | |

I have no problem with other people drinking- but other peoples attitude towards me is quite strange. I'm not sure exactly what goes through drinkers minds when they see someone not drinking having fun-but they usually judge me or label me. (can you even believe it!!) I play in a band and party ALOT!! i just dont drink. Girls usually have this un-freaking-believable issue with it like (and i've been told this a few times) "I'd sleep with you if you werent so Lame!!" or "Comon' just a couple drinks" as she atempts to pour liquor down my throat - Whats wrong with you people??!? Girls you wont hook-up unless your loaded Get a grip F%*$&ing Grip!!! Sorry if i dont want to take avantage of you while your passed out! Nice guys will Always finish last - especially sober ones :| Just the way the system works i guess. | |

It's always best to be honest in the beginning rather than hide things hoping the other party won't find out. | |

Posted: 6/5/2007 3:45:48 PM | I think it is a good thing when someone can have a good time without alcohol, it proves they are confident enough without it as for many people it is just a confidence booster. As for the 'alcoholic' side to it, admittedly some recovering alcoholics have other issues too but it depends on how they deal with their recovery and what support they have as to how it can affect their lives, too many people are judged for having an addiction when it is an ILLNESS not a matter of willpower or anything else along those lines. It is not easy to beat an addiction and anyone in recovery deserves a pat on ther back not a wide berth, with a bit of knowledge about this illness a normal relationship is possible  | |

I stopped drinking 2 1/2 years ago, and if a date has a problem with my not drinking, well then he's just not the right person for me. End of story.
I was just a bad drinker. When I drank I threw up, fell down, got loud & obnoxious, had blackouts and generally made a fool of myself. Now I don't. That's a good thing! I have a full social life and have just as much fun as I always did. I just don't have alcohol ruining the evening for me anymore.
I have no problem with my date having a drink or two, but if he can't socialize at all without a drank in his hand, that's a problem. Guys, sorry I won't be able to share that first-date bottle of merlot with you in front of the lovely sunset, but being sober means I'm conscious enough to actually NOTICE the sunsets now.
I'm sorry to hear that some people are afraid of recovering alcoholics. We're not all crazy. Many of us are more sane now than we have ever been. As for some recovering alcoholics still having other unresolved issues, well that's what the meetings, the sponsor and THE STEPS are for. You gotta do the work. Those who don't stay sick. I do the work. It's a priority for me.

Posted: 6/7/2007 9:27:17 AM | i perfer someone who doesnt feel the need to drink 24-7 or use it for an excuse, any day. the friends i use to have , no longer call me to go out(big drinkers, party everyday) cause i dont drink 24-7 like they do, its obvisiously a priorty to them.. my life doesnt consist round a bottleor drugs of any kind, give me a coffee anyday, i am happy happy happy....lol..  | |

I dislike dating anyone who drinks AT ALL ......especially if he is providing the transportation. A social drinker can quickly turn into a drunk..... particularly on special occasions .....and then I'm stuck for a ride home.
So too, a lot of seemingly pleasant people turn into nasty drunks when they've had a few too many. It's just not worth the effort to go out with them. | |

Actually, more often than not it has been my experience that a drinker's perception of "social" drinking is diametrically opposed to my perception. And, not at all implying that all people who drink are alcoholics as that is certainly NOT the case, but an actively drinking alcoholic is going to understate his/her drinking because of the denial aspect of the disease. So I'd just as soon not deal with it. As far as I am concerned, yes, men who do not drink are a blessing from heaven for sure - and very rare. | |

I have drinking friends as well as non, its not even a thought to those who know me and love me :). It may be a problem to someone in the dating world, but its certainly only their problem, and not one i have, either. I dont judge someone for drinking, why should they judge me for not drinking? They can judge away, luckily there are many who dont, and life is great for us! Im as comfortable in a bar as anyone else in there, its the company and entertainment i may be in one occasionally for... | |

I'm glad you posted this. I sort of feel the same way you do about the subject. It sucks because without going drinking socializing becomes harder to do for some people. Bars and clubs tend to be 'hot spots' for ALOT of singles. But I totally agree with you man, 100%.

I know for me and my fellow friends in recovery, we go out on ocassion ~ we are the ones doing most of the laughing, joking, cutting up ~ and we remember it the next day! LOL If anyone is turned off by the fact I am a recovering alcoholic ~ no problem ! It is something I did for ME, not something I did for anyone else. Believe me ~ you wouldn't WANT me to just "have a few" today ... LOL.
I chose my screen name to just "put myself out there" as a former drunk ~ and those who don't "get it", I state right up front who/what I am ~ I'll even tell ya "here's your chance to run" ... LOL. So ~ to you strats ~ as one of our slogans states "live and let live" ~ if she didn't want to be anything other than friends, well so be it. Find someone who doesn't mind someone not drinking, or someone in recovery. I know for me, people respect me for it, for the most part. Those who don't ~ no big deal. I don't "have" to please anyone today, and not everyone's gonna like me Oh Well!
