| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 1/23/2008 5:03:39 PM | I had intended on it, but a series of unfortunate events has me slowing down currently... I can assist, if need be, but I'm going to have to take a back seat right now. | |

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 1/25/2008 11:27:05 PM | Ok, talked to Puddles tonight at bowling and it looks like we're going to arrange this for a weekend in February after the middle of the month. We'll set up a party thread once the venue has been determined.

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/14/2008 10:01:26 PM | Graze Restaurant & Grill Located inside the Executive Royal Inn north Calgary, Graze offers a unique grill experience by offering an all-beef menu. No Chicken, no pork, no fish on the menu. Speaking about their menu, it's seven feet tall; too large to be brought to the table, guests have to go to it and are invited to sample flambéed steak bites grilled right in front of them—and can ask the chef any questions about dining choices. And choices include a 5lb steak, 64oz drinks and a 100+ salad bar.
Wow, so I went into their website, everything read as charming as quoted plus a complete fantastic Beef Menu. I have friends from Hong Kong to visit, and they want to try our famous Canadian Beef: I thought Graze would be the best place to treat them. Made reservation and asked if it is true that they only serve beef for dinner. They said yes. Went there tonight and got a great surprise - disappointment. No, nothing as what as advertised in the web. They have Roast beef buffet with about 50 items included desserts. Since we had driven all way there and were already seated, maybe as well stayed, right? So we went to the Roast beef table, there was about 5 inches of Beef left - the dry end part (at 7:00 pm). I asked the server/cook 3 times if there will be another beef coming from the kitchen, instead of answering he kept saying "this beef is good!" I asked the receptionist what happen to their website, why the restaurant is not as advertised, all she said was: "sorry, but we are no longer doing that, it was before." I pointed out that I particularly asked if their menu only consist beef courses when I made the reservation, she should have told me right at that time that they had changed their style. She gave me another "I am sorry!" So what we should do? To stay and 4 of us share that 5 inches of dry end meat or some of the chicken drum sticks (the only other kind of meat on the buffet table)? I was both embarrassed and angry and told the manager we have to leave, for the only reason we went to their restaurant is for the foreign visitors to try Canadian beef. We took off and went back to downtown to Old Spaghetti Factory. Never, never will I trust the website advertisement again! And would someone tell me if I should do something to demand Graze to put their web down or to sue them for false advertising??
So, guys, you can all now forget about that Graze.

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/15/2008 5:04:42 AM | Wow ApplePear! That’s terrible! I don’t blame you for being upset and angry! I think that you should contact the manager and explain what happened with regard to the meal and if you don’t get a satisfactory response, then also contact the BBB and some of the other sites that promote this restaurant like CalgaryPlus.ca and CalgaryRestaurants.ca.
Now you didn’t say which evening you went, but I had a look at the site and they are promoting Prime Rib on Wednesday’s. If that’s the day you went, perhaps that’s what you got in on, but they should have made it clear to you when you called that that is all that was available and they should also make that clear on their website, which they don’t. The fact that they basically “ran out” out food should have also been addressed in a more appropriate fashion, such as preparing an alternate meal for your party.
My SO and I went for dinner there early in January and I have to say that we had a fantastic meal. We liked it so much in fact that I purchased a gift certificate as a gift for a relative. You can bet I’ll be on the phone today to find out what the h*ll they’re doing and I’ll also relay your experience and I’ll let you know what kind of an explanation I get!

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/15/2008 8:09:28 AM | Ha ha, it was last night, Thursday, the sweet Valentine Day! So the restaurant has changed in one month? Maybe they have changed owner(s)? Please let us know what they said after you called them. | |

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/15/2008 8:34:16 AM | | If it's great beef you want, Ruth Chris... (I like Smuggler's for the all you can eat soup, salad and bread but for pure taste see first statement...) Vintage ChopHouse rocks pretty hard too... if you want the good stuff, unfortunately you have to pay for it. The Keg is overlooked a lot but they make a decent steak for a decent price and they mix a STIFF drink... | |

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/15/2008 11:14:34 PM | Smuggler's inn as far as i am concerned is one of the best place in town. The menu changed to A la carte so it is a bit more expensive but at least you WILL get quality and great food.
Honestly if i had some out of town visitor and they wanted good beef, that is probably were i would take them. Some local spots simply canot be beat.

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/16/2008 7:42:27 AM | I would be interested in attending as well, but I don't recommend the Smuggler's Inn. The Smuggler's Inn used to be good, but has gone down hill and the quality of the beef is poor. Redwater or The Cattle Baron are good choices. I've also heard good things about Ref and Beef. My favorite steakhouse is located a good distance south of Calgary but Im keeping that place a secret....lol... | |

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/16/2008 8:28:09 AM | Ruth's Chris is amazing. Again, it's an ala carte restaurant (and not inexpensive in the least) but it's likely the best steak I've ever eaten in a restaurant.
For something more moderately priced, Nick's Steakhouse is a good pick. It's steeped in Calgary Stampeder history too and is a great family restaurant (on a side note, Nick's does a great brunch on Sunday.
OE - I should add though, that Ruth's Chris didn't serve Alberta beef. But it was still the best!!

| New Year... New Dinners?? Posted: 2/16/2008 8:33:54 AM | | Ruth's Chris? I've never heard of it, I'll have to check it out. I've heard Nick's has a great brunch, but honestly their steaks suck. There I go being opinionated again...lol! | |

Welcome back honey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would be interested in something like this but would prefer to have it on a weekend than during the week. Having kidlets at home doesn't give me the freedom of going out during the week very often. You know, all the "mommy" duties get in the way.

Welcome back into the pond Puddle Jumper, been awhile since you have made surface bubbles!!
Either a weekend night (Friday) of a weeknight would be good for me, my kids have all left the nest/pond and they only cause me grief when I don't show up for my grandkids birthday parities on time!!

| It's Fall... new dinners, diners? Posted: 9/29/2008 5:26:12 PM | would anyone be interested in a dinner & wine tasting at somewhere like Cravings Market...or something like the Japanese Village thing, where they cook in front of you....what are people thinking.... | |
|
| It's Fall... new dinners, diners? Posted: 9/29/2008 6:16:48 PM | I'm still working on the Irish thing at Tipperary's Pub/Grill. I kind of was hoping people would check out the $2.99 breakfast before I booked the dinner. Will keep you posted. Watch for "Irish Dinner" event coming soon.
What is the Cravings Market? What kind of food is that?
|
| It's Fall... new dinners, diners? Posted: 9/29/2008 6:25:07 PM | I hosted a Japanese ethnic dinner in which some fishies had their food cooked in front of them while others had the chef make their meal in the kitchen.
It was a great turn out, the food was delicious, although the service was well... if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all.
If I remember correctly, poor Loki had to have a burger at the bar afterwards because his dinner never came. *pout*
P.S. I have never had Irish food but what the heck. That is what these nights are all about. I will keep an eye out for this one Mon Cherie.
