I eat what I like to eat in the morning, yesterday I had a bagel with smoked white fish salad and lettuce and tomato, I was in Brooklyn NY and coffee. I later went to Junior"s for a strawberry cheesecake...
This morning went to a local diner for my Sunday French toast with wild berries and french whipped cream.
In Paris you can't pass any street corner with out seeing a crepe stand
And a morning doesn't start without my chocolate croissant and cafe au lait

Italy has no concept of breakfast, either. They have great coffee and then nothing of substance.
North Qld In Oz is terrific - seasonal fruits such as mango, paw paw and pineapple. Poached eggs on sour dough.

Asia has the best IMO. A bowl of pork ball soup and noodles from a street vendor, spicy basil , chilli and rice or pad thai does it all.

*climbs onto the soap box*
On the Nazi thing. The Americas were lucky enough to not have the the direct influence of the nazis on their front doors. Take a walk around Auschwitz or Birkenau in Poland. They are just two of many places throughout European areas that have the strench of nazism all over it.
If you can visit any of those death camps and still flippantly use the term "nazi" I'd be very suprised. There are still people very much alive all over this world who have lived through the terror of hitler's reign. They probably not only find the word offensive, but downright terrifying and painful.
And yes I am a Seinfeld fan.."

I would eat pastries for EVERY meal... if I could.
But I can't anymore. Bran muffins just don't cut it either. But I love fruit.. I am not saying fruit fills the void of a fresh glazed *drool* donut. But I am getting by.

So far we've interjected religion, nationality and politics in the name of eating a bloody pastry. Oh....Wait a minute, I'm sitting on my arse reading this. I need to get a life. Maybe there's some good looking women down at Dunkin' Donuts.
See ya.

The last time I was in Poland, we went to Auschwitz, my first consins on my mom's side spent the last days of their lives there..... Later that same night , I was still holding a piece of glass from the camp, thinking maybe one of my consins touch it before dying... To this day, I love everyone, I hope that no one forget what the cost of freedom really is....... It's hoping that someone would say no, not my neighbor, not my friend, not my brother.......

And pancakes with loads of sirup??

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But its better not eat at all, then eat some pastries full of sugar!

Peace out!

AMEN, ROCKY!!! Like, no wonder there are so many wrecks in morning rush hour- they're loaded up on carbohydrates right when they need to perform on the road and at work, but they sabotage themselves with gluttonous fare when they need to be fueling "Da Machine"!

Two proteins to every carb, and some good natural sugars instead of all the processed, modified and synthesized crap. You ever wonder why truck drivers are fat? Look at all the fast-food moving into truck stops... I dunno if that's the case in Canada, but it sure is down here in the States. YECH!!!

AMAZONK, I'll eat oatmeal, grits and cream of wheat with you in the morning, provided that glass of white you have is the likes of a good Pinot Grigio, and you're willing to share your pears and brie after work, lol!

I've got 3 reasons:
1) CHEAP
2) FAST
3) EASY

DIXIETRUCKER!!! Lol... How'd I know you knew where sesame street REALLY was?! Dangit, I bet you got one of those microwave/power inverter combos on sale at the Pilot! Sorry, bro, just couldn't help myself... Car-hauler variety of fellow trucker-trash wavin' back at ya. I just spent the last year and a half leased to old sorry-assed Jimmy Schumacher (J&T, out of Metamora), draggin' a reefer out yonder and back every week, and began to discover all the goodies I could squirrel away in a 70" UltraSleeper with the built-in 'fridge! I spent a long time(12yrs) in a flat-top 63" Unibilt with cars over my head, and used to carry my Weber Baby-Q with me. Dang, I miss my grill(had a '77 Ranchero bounce on it in the belly of the trailer in Wyoming, smashed that sucker baddd)...

Anyway, just sittin' on my laurels, gettin' fat an sassy, and yes! I have been guilty of eating Eggo's and Cap'n Crunch with Crunchberries here lately. I'm waiting for my new 379 to deliver, and it's back to health and wealth relocating 4"wheelers out west again.

Okay, Dixie... Saw you in there, knew what I saw and figured I'd razz you a little. 24yrs out here and like I said- Just can't help it. Dang, I'm cravin' the buffet at the petro. Uh... can you say, "Buffet-findin' Goober-smoocher, c'mon beeeek?!"

Happy trails, Driver. Whoop-whoop!!!

> The vast majority of people parrot this "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" routine, but if you read Marilyn and Harvey Diamond's excellent books on the science of Natural Hygiene, you will learn that breakfast is the meal to skip. If you eat anything before noon, you are breaking one of the body's three main cycles. (The Elimination Cycle, in this case.) I used to laugh at this, until, that was, I studied their books. Believe me, breakfast is a meal you want to forget all about.

SOULUNION, you are onto something there.... I was a HUGE breakfast eater as an adolescent, like half a dozen eggs, 3-5 biscuits and gravy/jelly, and enough bacon, sausage or ham to make it all go down well, a big glass of juice, and as much as a half gallon of whole milk. I've always been hard-put to keep weight on, especially during summer and periods of continued physical activity- mind you, I'm an auto-transporter. To date, I am the same size and weight(6'@180Lbs, 32 waist and 42-44 chest) at age 43 that I was in high school, and my blood pressure hangs around 107-110 over 68-72. All my cholesteral levels are healthy. I am much less attracted to breakfst than I used to be, maybe eating a formal meal as such less than once a week, on average. I tend to work 40-48hours at a stretch with just enough to sustain me, and a cup or two of coffee, some juice, and bottled water in that period, before I reach my destination, unload 9-10cars, perform maintenance on the truck, shower and eat, and maybe have a few drinks before sleeping 9-14hrs and beginning the cycle all over again. I think as I matured physically, my need to eat early on declined, and my metabolism settled into a healthy rythm. I was not one to have issues about food either way, and since it wasn't a focal point in my life, or something I compensated with, my metabolistic "thermostats" were set and locked early on. It's why, I believe, that I remain healthy, fit and energetic at a point in life when many of my contemporaries have to lift their gut to procreate or pee, and huff and puff like a choo-choo just getting across the parking lot. Breakfast actually is unappealing to me now, though when I feel a need for a particular food, I pay attention to my cravings and indulge in moderation. You've heard about people eating dirt, or needing to crunch ice... I'm not gonna allow myself to get into a state where I eat dirt to keep my iron at the needed level, lol! Additionally, where you refer to the "cycle", I tend to do that at the end of my work/eat/sleep cycle, which is typically the morning after and then that event moves to the late end of the day over the next 36 to 72 hrs, coincidental to my strange working hours and stranger circadian rythm.

But hey... I'm just a dumb truck driver! If I can tolerate it, I must admit to having a bit of a hard time understanding why(yes, I like pastries, and all kinds of crap that like me less the older I get....) some folks pay Jenny Craig and their endocrinologist/cardiologist to help them manage their particular health picture, when there is so much they could do sensibly and easily to accomplish the same thing without ever taking a toll on their health as a precedent to said realization of red flags.

Just my .02... Sorry I was so loquacious!

But hey... I'm just a dumb truck driver! - Classy Nomad

> After reading your posting and what you say, I for one wouldn't call you dumb.
> The best book by the Diamonds, in my opinion, is Fit for Life. The front jacket talks about: "The natural body cycle, permanent weight-loss plan that proves it's not what you eat, but when and how."
> For instance, if you eat protein - say some scrambled eggs - and then you finish it off with some fresh fruit . . . lovely and healthy, eh? Ah! Not so. What you are doing is combining two distinctly different food types. The protein, the eggs, takes hours to go through your digestive system. The fruit takes only up to 45 minutes, at most. So the fruit is at 'war' with the eggs (the protein), and as a result humans get ulcers and cancers and all kinds of ailments. The fruit wants to shoot through your digestive tract in record time. Meanwhile, the eggs are still being churned around in your stomach like a cement mixer.
> Eating fresh fruit (never tinned or processed) is extremely good for you, but only if you eat it on its own. Fresh fruit - and nothing else. Most people haven't a clue about food combining. They go into McDonald's and they shovel down all kinds of food groups into their stomach, and we wonder why Westerners are so obese and sick?
> Fit for Life. It is a book I highly recommend, not just for food combining but for its amazing wisdom, including topics like The Theory of Detoxifcation; The Natural Body Cycles; The Theory of Metabolic Imbalance; and The Principle of Correct Fruit Consumption.
> Best wishes, Nomad - and to everyone.

i differ with the sentiments of some of my fellow-Canadians who seem to be on board with the sugary obsession of our US counterparts...but then again, i've never been overly partial to sweet things in general. i'm more inclined to have whole grain cereal, fruit, maybe a bran muffin, a bagel with peanut butter, or if i'm feeling indulgent perhaps eggs benedict if i'm out at a restaurant...on very rare occasions my sweet-tooth might assert itself to indulge in french toast at brunch, but that's the exception rather than the norm for me.

north america has a junk food culture, and i won't claim to always be a puritan about my nutrition, but despite being a fuller-figured girl i tend to lean towards a healthier diet in which i can still recognize what my food is, rather than eating a processed mess of refined sugar, white flour, food dye, and additives and calling it a meal. ick!

The protein, the eggs, takes hours to go through your digestive system.

That's why I eat only protein for breakfast - so it stays with me all day! Eating the carbs, like pastries or toast, or yes, fruit, doesn't have any "staying power" and just makes you hungry in an hour or two - also causing blood sugar to spike and drop - usually why so many people are ready for the coffee break mid-morning with more pastries!

As noted in another post, Dr Atkins was on to something!

Myself? Coffee, OJ with fiber dust stirred in, can of Slim Fast, two bowls of Lucky Charms, more coffee.

I like chocolate chip cookies
and a coke for breakfast.

The name of God has nothing to do with it,
He is not even thought about when I eat
my cookies.

However...when I step on a scale I yell:
DEAR GOD!!! HOW DID I GAIN THIS WEIGHT

I have a sweet tooth in the morning but I don't indulge. Yes breakfast is the most important meal of the day and people really should consume protein in the early part of the day. Actually for the people that want to lose weight but have an unsatisfied craving for unhealthy selections should eat the more fattening foods (like pastries and meats)in the morning so they can burn it off then stick to leaner foods in the latter part of the day.

HANK, you'd be among th healthier trucker-trash on the road, lol. Sometimes, I grab some of that Slimfast just for the benefit of it's nutritional value, at least relevant to my particular theatre of operations...

DANCER... You are to young and cute to be worrying about prunes yet, and for THAT matter, so am I!

GIL! I used to haul chicken 44,000lbs at a time, fresh and so warm after slaughter, that my reefer unit SCREAMED all the way from GA to AZ before the damned stuff quit dripping itself al over my freshly washed and polished Peterbilt. Having been extensively in Mexico and suspecting things WEREN'T chicken even though it said it was on the menu... Cat, Horse, Monkey, Donkey, Coatimundi, Mapachi(racoon)... Hell, Dog probably isn't too bad. I can think of a few from my past that would have made better BB-Q than the meaness they turned into because some poor slob put them on a logging chain in the yard after they weren't CUTE anymore. Much like the fabled Alligators of the New York Sewer System! Bow-wow-wow-wow...(music, please) Meow-meow-meow-meow!!!

DEBBIE... You and Dr. Atkins are BOTH on to something. A Rhoad's Scholarship to you on the merits of good intuition and common sense.

CURLZ! You exude sensibility... Eat sensibly whatever turns you on and makes you feel good, knowing it's the right thing. My sentiments echo yours- nothing is better than fresh, hand-crafted goodness. Sushi and Hershey's dark chocolate ROCK!!!

SOULUNION- Thank you for the kudos. I have a friend in SC who is my bestest friend. He was my coach and married one of my teachers- way back in my Jr. High days. Youngest daughter graduated summa cum laude from Duke, biology. Oldest daughter married her only love ever, after they both completed their MA at Clemson. Michael is the middle child, and Jeff taught me to play guitar- we still get together to pick whenever we can. When Michael was 18, Jeff had me spend about 5hrs in a music store picking out the cream of the Taylor Guitar stock for his birthday gift. These folks have been my grounding in sensibility and balance. They are vegetarian, and hippieish, have produced stop-traffic good-looking kids, have a loving and warm role-model kind family, and have produced achievers, in spite of stereotypical hindrances.

I appreciate you seeing the influences that are now part of my soul. Long live Martin Guitars and good, satisfying and healthy cuisine! You are right- not ALL truck drivers are dumb. Hats off to my freighthauler friend on this site, Dixietrucker.

Give me eggs, juice, fruit, cereal or oatmeal and a muffin or bagel plus coffee and good to go.
Danish is good too not eating too much. Depends on the level of activity as to the amount of breakfast I eat. There's a study out that expounds that people who eat breakfast look younger and live longer too. Eat a good hearty breakfast and eat a light lunch or skip it if you must. So go ahead and enjoy your danish, donut. pancake, etc.. for breakfast...just balance it out with other nutritious foods for an active day.

For those of you slamming others for what they eat who exalted you as king or queen?
Many Liberals these days act more like freedom-squelching fascists!

I prefer to eat healthy with toasted Multigrain bagel with peanut butter, fresh cut up fruit & yogurt and oatmeal cereal. If I know I can't eat all of it at home, I will prepare it ahead of time, and heat it up at work. I have to start of my breakfast healthy with whatever food choices, and eating sugar throws my start of the day too off. Now where did I put my blueberry danish..lol
