| Why in the name of god do americans eat pastries for breakfast? Posted: 9/19/2008 5:43:37 AM | | Lighten up a bit sunshine! Saying someone is a "cycling" nazi, "sugar" nazi is making a grammatical point. It pays to be a bit creative with language, rather than mired in the literal meaning. I notice you are called rocky 23. Does this mean you are a drop out from the X Men - being made entirely of rock?? Geddit?!!! | |

I like BLTs in the morning, or apple turnovers. Why? Because I am too f*cking lazy to make a fresh home-made pizza, first thing in the morning. That USED to be my preferred "way to start the day off right", when I was younger & much more energetic.

| Why in the name of god do americans eat pastries for breakfast? Posted: 9/21/2008 4:06:05 PM | I worked in Finland and Russia for a month: Most breakfasts were pickled vegetables +/- fish, with kefir [fermented yoghurt drink]. Never got used to it. What I missed the most in Russia was liquid white gold, hereafter referred to as the glass of milk. When I got home, I drank a litre of milk and peeled and ate 3 carrots over the sink before I took my coat off. Bliss! As another Canadian said: "you don't know what you got 'til it's gone'
No pastry for brekkie here, it's always ultra-high fibre cereal [Bran Buds] or oatmeal or grits with fruit and milk, except a once-a-year treat of banananana pancakes and bacon.

| Why in the name of god do americans eat pastries for breakfast? Posted: 9/21/2008 10:42:34 PM | Personally I think we eat backwards and inside-out here.
We should be eating what we eat for dinner/supper in the morning (for those who eat dinner in the mid-day, that's what we call our evening meal), what we eat for breakfast would make a more sensible lunch and what we eat for lunch we should eat in the early evening.
That way all the huge calories and fat from "dinner" would get used up during the day (instead of sitting in us all night), with a quick shot of energy mid-day, and something smaller and more balanced at night to help rebuild our bodies.
But - pastry for breakfast is an incentive to go out and face what for many people will be yet another nasty day, I suppose. Worry about the consequences down the road when it finally catches up to us.

We are supposed to eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper. We do do it backwards. I think most people take the fast route of quick energy - carbs and sugar instead of the slow steady protein meal.
Myself - I am a midday runner so I eat my lunch - anything from turkey and mashed potatoes to pizza meal - around 10 AM.
