I absolutely loved him until he started saying things that show that he believes that Israel can do no wrong.

This wouldn't surprise me.
Maher is conservative Democrat.
How PREDICTABLE.

I didn't even realize Maher was a comedian.
Come to think of it--yeah,Maher did TRY to be funny on his old talk show.

I NEVER laughed at ANYTHING he ever said.
He in league with that goof from "America's Funniest Home Vids".

Different. Better?

Comrades: Difficult to find (to my mind at least...perhaps in the company of myself) a punchier , 'funny' -- I use the term advisedly, knowing full well that the Revolution shall be a humourless affair -- critic of the cultural/political status quo.

Perhaps the stuff for another thread...but who does it Better?

Agree that Will Rogers was a Master. Notwithstanding the undertaker doing a bang-up job, it'll be difficult to get his make-up right under those studio lights.

Even Lenin's looking a bit down in the mouth these days...

Bill Maher is quite possibly the sexiest man alive. Love his brain, love his nose, and from what I've read, he's also a very talented boy in other ways...I'd take him home tomorrow if I could...

Alas, he appears to prefer black chicks.

I love him most of the time. The times I don't love him are when he calls people idiots for believing in God, and when he gives that beeoootch Anne Coulter a platform.

I prefer Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky , Bill Maher is a Liberal cheerleader while I find a lot of what he says funny , if I'm going to read something critical of the US , Chomsky/Zinn is where it's at.

Maher isn't afraid to come out and make a statement. He really took some hits, simply by being honest. The fact that his show got cancelled proved that type of issue to anyone that doubted it.

He simply said that the people that flew the planes into the buildings on 9/11 could not be called cowards, although they could be called a lot of other things. He was essentially right. A coward doesn't pilot a plane into a building at 500 miles an hour.

For that, he lost his show.

When I see comments as this, I feel the need to comment. Flying planes into a tower full of non military personnel is being a coward. When innocent civilians are killed by mistake that is totally different. The terrorist pilots did not face their enemy face to face nor even electronically in an acceptable military fashion. Cowards kill the innocent and weak because it is easier than engaging their equal in combat.

The Steve Irwin bit was over the top, but still a valid statement, in a sense. Here is a fellow that spent his entire life with dangerous animals, who gets killed (in an almost "hit by lightening" type of event by one) , and who is suddenly turned into this mythical figure because of it.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but I see the point he was trying to make by doing it - as a comedian.

Which, of course, is cool to have your opinion. On this, I strongly disagree. I don't see any sense in making fun of this specific happening.

As for Maher, in general, I use to enjoy him. But, as others have said, he has steadily gone downhill, for me personally. Which is a shame to see good wit grading into dribble. Unfortunate.

Anything that involves using your body as a guidance system is not cowardly. It may be malicious, insane and evil. But it certainly isn't an issue of fear.

Knowing your death will be swift and quick... that you will not simply lose a limb or two and/or be captured to be put in prison is a coward. The fear is dispelled in the absolute knowledge of the outcome. These suicide pilots also have injection drugs secured to their bodies so that if the crash itself doesn't kill them, a quick end is easily obtained.

Not knowing if you will be maimed or killed...what lies in wait for the soldier around the next corner, bush, hill, etc. displays much more bravery. That's just imho.

You cannot compare Maher to Chomsky. Very unfair. Maher doesn't even try to be Chomsky.

Maher's basically just a comedian with a leftist political and cultural leaning.

You do realize that our government thrives on bullying weaker countries don't you.

I think the point the Bill was trying to make was that anyone who is willing to give their own lives for something they believe in (no matter how ludicrous or inhumane) can not be considered a coward. Did we face our enemies face to face when we shot 1,200 rockets into Baghdad during the first 48 hours of our attack on Iraq? I think not.

Here's the actual quote :

"We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly. Stupid maybe, but not cowardly."

I still agree with that.

Evil.

Certainly.

There are many other names you could use for that action, and none of them ( by my definition) deserving of the word "cowardly".

Ironically, a RIGHT WING commentator (Dinesh D'Souza ) had said it first, and Maher repeated it.

Guess which one stuck ?

We ourselves sometimes see such actions, in the heat of combat, as valid. During that darkest day of the Battle of Britain, a British pilot ( with no ammo ) RAMMED a German bomber.

He survived, but that was certainly not a certainty when he hit that plane high over London.

Pilot who 'saved Palace' honoured

Ray Holmes saved Buckingham Palace from a German attack

A wartime fighter pilot who saved Buckingham Palace when he rammed a German bomber is being honoured.

Sergeant Ray Holmes, who died earlier this year at 90 in Wirral, rammed his plane into the bomber when he found he had run out of ammunition.

There are a few other instances of such "suicide" attacks, which we have honoured.

If one does not have cruise missles, and faces a superior enemy, then it becomes far easier to consider what we might think as "unthinkable". As for attacking civillian targets, that's been pretty much a standard in modern warfare since WW1 and the Lusitania.

Not condoning it, but it is an inevitable result of military superiority on the battlefield.

He used to get on my nerves alot, but since I saw this video, I'm starting to think maybe he's not all that bad.

Plus I liked his role(some would say he basically played himself) in the movie called House 2. You can see a picture of him here(wearing a pink tie) with the cast of House 2: The Second Story.

I liked his Politically Incorrect show a lot more. Better show, more fair and balanced. Always went after conservatives but allowed for the conservative opinion and had some conservative opinions of his own from time to time. I feel he has become a complete shill for a very liberal HBO. I don't mind so much that he hates W but he's gone a lot further than that now. It will be interesting to see how he handles his coverage of the next election. Very interesting candidates in one of the most important times in the countries history. The show for the most part has become him and three liberal guest. Not that interesting and not funny enough to be considered great satire. Pollitically Incorrect seemed to be more interesting, controversial, open minded and funny. Maybe he's sold out a bit to HBO so he does't lose another job. P.S. Bill Clinton gave some excellent advice a few years back which suggested the democratic party stop with the hate mongering, they have not listened yet and it continues to cost them.
