| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/2/2008 1:47:52 PM | | For me, if a male or female does these types of pictures (the infamous shirtless shot or the flash boobs shot) it shows me that they feel that is all they have to offer. Being surrounded by plenty of those people who are great until they open their mouths, I have no interest in even reading their profile... NEXT! | |

| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/5/2008 10:18:45 PM | As you can see to the left, I’m one of “those” guys. It’s no big deal. I haven’t read all the posts, but I get the general idea. If it’s a turn-off, or if you can’t appreciate the work it took for me to get to this point, you won’t be messaging me. I’m not the one for you, and you’re not right for me. However, I find it hilarious for those of you that take that leap of faith and figure that because of my “appearance”, I must be a dim bulb. Trust me, I didn’t buy my doctorate and master’s degrees from Sears…
In a related issue, another thing I find hilarious are women that take the phony high road and say, “I don’t care what a man looks like, I just want someone who is sensitive, honest, caring, blah blah blah”. If most of you passed me on the street, you wouldn’t give me the time of day. Shirt on, shirt off, muscles, no muscles, beer gut…doesn’t matter. Being of average looks, I don’t have a “look” that will catch your eye, even though you don’t “care about looks”. I most certainly am a nice guy, but it’s not gonna get me or any other nice guy anywhere. Put it to the test. Go to one of these dating events for singles, be a fly on the wall, and observe what goes on. I’m not talking about a “one-night stand” bar, but an organized legit gig. Those “honest, caring, clean-cut, nice guys, etc”, that are such a good catch, almost always strikeout, while the “bad boy” with some tats, long hair, maybe a few piercings, and a TON of attitude, goes home with his pockets stuffed with phone numbers. The “shallow club” isn’t exclusively for females. Men are just as bad, they just don’t lie about it. They’ll come right out and say, “I prefer women with huge breasts and poofy blonde hair”. There’s a guy on talk radio that says, “Men get the best looking women they can afford, and women get the richest men their looks can attract”. I pretty much agree, except as most of us get older, we end up “settling” for less than what we expected to get in our wide-eyed youth. Since someone will undoubtedly come back with, “how dare you say all women and men are that way”, I’ll state the obvious ahead of time. I’m not talking about everyone, but the vast majority. I’m not gonna score any points for this post, but that’s cool. We all have our preferences, and we’ll all keep plugging away until we make it through…

| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/6/2008 6:29:26 AM | | While it's admirable for people to want to keep in shape as they get older, it is just as obvious with a well-fitted shirt on and more attractive, too. I actually think it's more sexy to wonder how someone looks underneath than to have that offered up at the first take. | |

| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/6/2008 2:21:22 PM | Pete, remember last summer when you and LifeLessOrdinary were frolicking around in the forums with your magic wand? Showing all of that skin will get you into trouble.... (Whatever happened to Life, anyway?) | |

| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/6/2008 11:21:49 PM | ^^Boomer, I think Life found love (NOT here on fish) ... and became a forum drop-out.
< --New pic I took the other night... (need to have a friend with a camera take some good ones!), but for now,... acceptible or too much cleavage?

| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/7/2008 12:21:07 PM | I'm guessing the 'appropriateness' of a muscle shot depends on the context in which the photo was taken.
If a guy is looking for a woman who likes surfing and also says she wants a really FIT guy, then what's wrong with a photo of him walking out of the surf with his surfboard under his arm? Last time I checked, guys go shirtless at every beach. :) As long as he's not wearing a banana hammock, what's the complaint? :-P
On the flip side, I'd probably agree that photos taken with a cell phone camera, with the guy flexing his muscles in his bathroom mirror, only shows narcissism, or he really wants you to see that he keeps his bathroom in spotless condition! Nice job with the 409 and Windex, buddy....that's a streak-free shot of your six-pack abs. :-P

"I don't know what the big deal is. People are on here to market themselves. Some do it with shirtless shots, some do it with boob shots. Unfortunately those are'nt shirtless."
I think this topic is REALLY FUNNY...LOL Well, I agree with the comment the guy posted. Just look at the media, marketing, and the entertainment business in general. Sex sells and that's that. This topic kind of reminds me about the post of women that rather date regular men versus more attractive ones... That was really funny too. I really don't know why men insist on having women think like men, and why women insist that men think like women.
I think that is the bottom line on most of these posts. We are just different! Different in our wants, needs, what we like, what we don't like! It's almost a known fact that women don't like men with shirtless pictures. Men need to just accept it and get over it!!! Men obviously are more visual and are probably not going to complain about the booty or boob shots. Ya it makes me think that the woman probably has nothing else to offer but her looks. I guess it goes back to how people are marketing themselves. I guess women assume that if a man is shirtless he is full of himself,****, self centered, conceded, arrogant, etc... Those are obviously stereotypes and not always true. Why can't women appreciate the body of a man like art? It seems like people are willing to accept tattoos as art but not appreciate a man's body.
I also know why this makes men mad, I know because I work out. It takes a lot of time, hard work, discipline, sacrifice, persistence, focus, concentration, and mental strength to master your body. Any time anyone downplays your achievements it's disrespectful!
I think it's also a known fact that some women have self-esteem issues and are insecure. I think women may also feel intimidated if a man is "too fit" because most are self conscious about their bodies. So women that are more confident or have healthier self esteem are not really going to have a problem with attractive men or men that work out, versus a woman with low self esteem or who is insecure.
And women: there are plenty of men that have balance in their lives. That's another stereotype that if a man works out his body he has no brain, is dumb, or has no personality. Personally I try to be the best I can be in all aspects of my life. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc...
Chris Rock said it best: Women need food, water and compliments!!!LOL He also said that women would have ruled the world by now if it wasn't for the fact that they hate each other... LOL It's also been said that "you can never make a woman truly happy". I've learned to just love women and accept our differences.
The moral of the story: We all know what happens when you assume. You make an ass out of you and me.

Are there any other gals out there that find a guy trying to show what he's got physically a turn off? Note to men...most of us women are more turned on by "the man" than his muscles. Wow me with your wit, charm, intelligence and caring personality. Please...no more muscle shots!!!! Women are more visual than you'd admit. They often respond to the photos and faces and bodies of guys just as guys respond to women visually. You and others may want a man who's witty, charming, intelligent and caring and yet there is little way to represent that in a single avatar photo and honestly... that's about all the attention span many people have these days (I'm sorry to say).
And you seem to suggest that "most of us women are turned on by..." If I know anything, it's that women are individuals--it's difficult to say almost any accurate sentence that begins with "most women..."
You'll know his character by meeting with him for coffee. You'll recognize that there may be some attraction by his photo. A man is a collection of all his attributes and that includes his physique as well as his intelligence. I'm sensing that you're suggesting that a man who has muscles doesn't also have brains, a similar preconceived idea when people suggest that a beautiful woman can't also be smart.

| Guys showing (trying to show) muscle Posted: 7/26/2008 11:43:52 AM | Geez.... I wonder if my photo in shorts is a little over the top now
My take........ if the photos are ALL centered around sporting the so called physique shots, then yea.... probably a lil too much.....but if the guy has 6 pics and in only ONE pic he is shirtless....then I don`t see there are any issues or flaunting.......the guy is simply presenting the complete package....... the physical/visual aspect by his pics and his inner self by the text in his profile......
I mean.... isn`t that what pics are for...... to (in moderation) present the visual outer self ?

You have the cutest knees and the sexiest legs on all of POF. I can read a lot about your personality from that photo. (And for 25 bucks I'll tell you what I see.) LOL

Dave said: I didn`t realize that it was so obvious that I was playing pocket pool, lol Dave, I said "I could tell a lot about your personality , not about your recreational preferences.
(And for 25 bucks I'll tell you what I see.) ^^^ Would that be considered Oral? For money Pete, if you consider THAT oral, then we really need to talk...
