| Dell Hell Posted: 1/18/2007 9:43:23 AM | A computer is like most other electronics. The manufactureres warranty probably lasts just a little under how long the components will last. A typical dell medium system is around 599 USD. If you want to get it up to respectable performance factor in another couple hundred to double Ram and storage and another couple hundred to upgrade the processor. A dell medium entry system fully upgraded could cost well into 2000 dollars. Many people have praised the warranty. This is why companies are making crappy products today because we are so focused on warranty than quality. I dont know about other countries but the American consumer seems obsessed with warranty now a days.
If you are going to pay an extra 2-3 hundred dollars on extended warranty you might as well use that money to buy a better PC. Dell is simply the Mcdonalds of computers. Massmarketing and easy access.
As far as the people who complained about customer service, fact of the matter is some people immediately get offensive when they encounter a different accent. Happens to me all the time and I am right here in the USA. I get asked a minimum of 5 times a day if I am in india. I dont sound like an Indian so clearly the people are already biased .Just when you were in school. If you hated a teacher or considered him or her a moron, you would never learn anything in that class no matter how brilliant the teacher may have been. As far as best buy and compusa, most of these places are a complete waste of time as far as pc repair. The only thing they specialize in is reinstalling your software with no data recovery. If you dont have your original discs they will be glad to help you purchase them. Most people are so freightened by computers that they will pay these supposed "guru's" a few hundred to reinstall their sowtware, something they could have done on their own.
Dells warranty may be all that and they do have some extremely good PC's if you are prepared to shell out the bucks but if you want quality..stop thinking about warranty first. If you have the patience, you can put together a super PC for less than 600 dollars.

| Dell Hell Posted: 1/20/2007 9:46:54 PM | Dell computers are not very standard thats one issue. The parts inside are different depending on the model. I know where i work, Dell is a competitor, and dealing with my clients they prefer going through a computer where parts are the same, and not being changed due to which is the current "deal of the week".
But getting extra warranty's are good if you have a one year warranty on your computer, unless your getting the macked up 4 hour on site warranty.

The parts inside are different depending on the model. No sh*t? Woah. I think you meant the parts inside can be different even with the same model. Desktops only.

| Dell Hell Posted: 1/21/2007 8:38:01 AM | | I bought a desktop second hand. After I figured out it was a boat anchor in disguise, all I really wanted was the hard drive. I went to Fry's and bought a USB conversion kit. While I was there, I saw the floppy USB conversion kit and the CDRW USB conversion kits. I now have a USB HD, CDRW and floppy. The rest of this crap is useless. I got a buddy who fixes computers and he will trade me a couple of bottle of bourbon for the left over crap. It's all good | |

| Dell Hell Posted: 1/25/2007 7:19:24 AM | | The whole financing thing is pretty much inexcusable and I am sure in no way reflects any kind of corporate policy, but rather a PEBKAC error in their sales department. I agree that Dell has issues, but any large manufacturer mass producing a product for a global market will have the same issues. Let us not forget, that without this type of mass production, computers and therefore the internet would be sorely out of reach for a HUGE number of people who could otherwise not afford to own a computer. What an impact on their child's education that would be. | |

| Dell Hell Posted: 1/28/2007 1:38:36 PM | | I Have a custom made dell insiron 9400 laptop. 200gb hdd 2gb ram, ati radeon mobility 1400 video card. i love it.. it is a great laptop cost $1900. i find that lower priced dells are sh&t. my brother bought a $700 laptop and he already ahs issues with it, and preformance wise it cr@p. i bought my desktop(which i recently sold for my laptop) from a non-francise store. only the parts. assembled it. cost me $600 plus $300 for a decent lcd. after a year and i half i sold it to some guy for $800 becuase i told him you go buy a comparable system with 400gb 2 gb ram. nividia 5400 video, and 64bit proccesor, for a good price. hes like well i went to futureshop and to get the computer with alot of space like yors and ram they want $1500 plus tax. sold it right then and there....( i gave him alot of software to photshop mcafee, dvd programs and more) you will save at least 40% if you buy that way ... just and example.. your money belongs in your pocket.... if others want to throw money away to get a computer so be it.. by the way if you buy your computer parts from a non-francise store you could usually get it assembled for like $40-50.... saves you alot of money.. | |
