| Choice - a person who smokes 2 pks of cigarettes/day or a non smoker who smokes 1 joint a week Posted: 4/1/2005 1:40:29 PM | | My fourty cents.. I've known many people that smoke pot, I have yet to know one that I actually say has thier life "put together". Without a doubt, I've never met a pot smoker who doesnt have worlds of drama that they are trying to cover up. Although same goes with two pack a day smokers. The only place you actually seeing these people hang out are in dive bars shouting out how bad life sucks. So I've given up on any woman who smokes anything. As this site implies,, there are plenty of fish. | |

I know stoners I'd trust my life over life long "sober" folks. Pot and Nicotine are horrible drugs, but one doesn't come from an industry that has knowingly killed how many? In High School I won Forensic Competitions stoned off my_____. Some people are helpless when stoned, some aren't. To some of the self righteous men on the thread here, tell me you wouldn't have jumped at the chance to shag Diane Keaton as Annnie Hall?

I'm not anti dating smokers exactly but 2 pks a day... As for the one joint a week, maybe this is the university student coming out in me, but if someone is a weekend smoker it wouldn't make a bit of difference to me. I can think of the examples of people that smoke a lot of weed to mask their drama or whatever, but for the majority of people I've come across it's no different than having a few beer. It's just fun.

| Choice - a person who smokes 2 pks of cigarettes/day or a non smoker who smokes 1 joint a week Posted: 4/1/2005 4:45:49 PM | | Ritz, I'd say the pot is far less risky than the 2 pks of cigarettes per day. At least pot has some merit and value. I think most get too upset by a lot of things like marijuana, and even the pain killers drugs like Vicodin (hydrocodone). There are lots of misconceptions about what brings on addiction. Some don't know the intractable pain can only be controlled by potent pain killers, and in such instances of some long term use of hydrocodone, and some other meds for relief of pain, intense spasms, etc, no addiction develops. I have discussed this with several reputable physicians for years. So I am for the legalization of marijuana. It is far less harmful than regular cigarette smoke. I am not going so far as to advocate regular use of this for pleasure, but certainly do believe it has a place in treating many chronic illnesses. | |

| Choice - a person who smokes 2 pks of cigarettes/day or a non smoker who smokes 1 joint a week Posted: 4/1/2005 4:58:22 PM | I would much rather be with a person who smokes a joint a week for a couple reasons
1) their breath doesn't taste like a freakin ashtray ... the most disgusting thing in the world. My last girlfriend smoked a pack a day, it got to the point where i demanded that she brushed her teeth after she smoked before she tried to kiss me ... even that was wearing to the point where i was gagging with each kiss
2) the smell! I mean cmon people, we're talking about a HUGE volume difference here. People here seem to think that 1 joint a week = PotHead, HELL NO!, thats NORMAL in BC. When i smoke pot, i smoke it outside soo the smell on me is minimal at best ... i tend not to smoke indoors and i do not allow people to do any drugs in my appartment. Cigarette smell is just freakin nasty!, even if they smoke outside they still smoke soo often that it gets into their clothes, you can see the Tar/Nicotine on their fingers, taste it on their lips, YUCK!!!
You guys need to re-evaluate what you would consider a "pothead" because one joint a week is nothing in todays society. I guess with me being a Canadian, i'm a little more open to the thought/usage of pot. To specify, if the person were smoking 2-3 joints PER DAY then MAYBE i could see you calling that person a pothead, but cmon ... 1 joint a day?

AHH and you drink to ahh get drunk...get a buzz.... U smoke pot to get stoned you drink to get drunk...ya lost me there Many people abuse alcohol Many abuse POT Many can control themselves
You're right. But Alcohol can be used in moderation. For instance, I enjoy one or two pints, no more, of Guiness Stout every day. Stout, and Guiness in particular, is packed with more naturally-occurinhg antioxidants than red wine, green leafy vegetables or even blueberries. Antioxidants are proven to prevent cancer. So I drink for the health of it. In fact, I don't remember the last time I got drunk or the last time I even set out to drink with the purpose of getting drunk. If you're only drinking to get drunk, it's abuse. You can sip a beer over dinner and never get buzzed.
Weed, on the other hand, offers no middle ground. You smoke, you get buzzed. It cannot be used in moderation. Therefore, any use is abuse.

| Choice - a person who smokes 2 pks of cigarettes/day or a non smoker who smokes 1 joint a week Posted: 4/1/2005 6:14:00 PM | i have been smoking pot for 13 years and i can tell you i don't get a buzz from it anymore. I have my life more than together and while people are out making an ass out of themselves getting drunk, I can smoke a joint and still walk a straight line.
Now, you ask, why do I smoke pot if it doesn't get me high? Because I was hit by a car when I was 19 as I was walking across the street. I was paralyzed for some time and after immense physiotherapy and intense drugs, I managed to walk again. Now, I have 2 options to control the extreme pain that is the trade-off for me walking. I can take heavy duty muscle relaxants which would force me out of the workforce permanently and as a consequence of that, have me on disability and be supported by you, the taxpayer, for the rest of my life OR I can smoke a joint or two a day (depending on how bad the pain is) and I can go to work and continue to be a productive member of society. My Dr. reccommended the pot, but cannot prescribe it for me due to the health guidelines in Canada. I do not qualify for medicinal marijuana.
As to the original question of the OP I smoke cigs and smoke pot so I wouldn't care either way.
