how do I actually turn off the IM ???
Posted: 5/21/2007 9:06:18 PM
okay, I still go with my above statement. LOL

I keep my IM turned off, too many creeps wanting to cyber or the like of it. Cuz really a girl like me wouldn't do that......tee hee

Seriously, I keep it off because it interupts the other things I'm doing. It's great to use if you don't want to give out your msn,or they want to show you web/voice. So the option is always there.

send fishmail....it works, some ppl even think before they reply to fishmail I hear

VVVVV yeah, I reply anyways I dunno about the rest but I'm just a big jerk like that. Than again I send them out usually first, if they reply well hell yeah I respond. How am I going to find a fish if I don't cast out?

When I'm on this site, I'm always doing something where I'm 'thinking' and the IM feature is extremely distracting. I'm either posting in the forums, trying to think of a response to someone's e-mail or trying to woo da pants off a lovely fishee (woo woo!!) with my own e-mail. If someone sends me an e-mail and wishes to IM on here, no problem. Turning the feature on is easy to do.

I usually leave my IM on and when i IM a lady i am always very polite and never ask degrading questions and usually i am complimenting them in some way and most times i get no answer ,so either they are not really there or they just don't give a damn ,either or no sweat to me ,but i am always polite and never ever ask to hook up or say you wanna get laid ,not my style .........but each to their own i say .........

I hate IM!!!! i find it distracting, impersonable, cold and you just can't get a vibe or read anything from an IM conversation. I will occassionally IM with a few friends but strangers, nope! i've tried a few times and it always ends up in the same thing...hey, you're hot, wanna have a threesome, etc. you know, if you're going to ask for sex, at least have the courtesy of being creative LOL

send an email, that i'll respond to 99% of the time--even those who ask for sex i usually email back to say no thanks LOL

to turn it off, just go to mail settings and select no, yes or friends only.

I dont think that IM is dumb. It has its time and place.

you read the profile and whoops IM is turned off....why don't you email? Show a bit of your personality and proof that you've read their profile, and they most likely will respond.

I agree IM's that are turned off are really weird because your on here to talk to someone to get to know them sometimes its best to IM i think honestly that ppl with IM turned off are scared to find someone but thats jsut my opionin

There is nothing worse than feeling like the flavour of the moment! When you sign on and a stranger pops up less than 10 seconds later to “chat” you know they have not read the profile to see if there is anything beyond the picture. When I was looking and even now, the IM is inactive….I always felt that if someone took the time to actually look at my profile and take the time to write, that was the best start.

Who has the time to sit around and “chat” anyway? Anyone who has there ass adhered to the chair for hours on end chatting with a ton of women wouldn’t be someone I would be interested in anyway.

Nothing personal, so please don’t rip me a new one!!

.....Something,
I completely agree with you - that's exactly why I turned off my IM. The types of men who take the time to read my profile and contact me, we usually establish some kind of communication. My experience with most (not all, most) of the men who have IMed me were the "instant gratification" types - the ones that would want to meet tonight, "let's grab a movie and go to my place" - just saying really inappropriate things that made me want to give my head a shake. These were men in their late 30's and 40's - that many years on earth and still that clueless - it boggles the mind. I calmly directed them to the intimate encounters section and told them to read the BLOODY PROFILE before sending someone an IM.

When my patience started to run very low - I decided that this IM business is not for me, lol.
This is my experience only.

I get tired of seeing the mans willy....IM pops up and full blown Willy!

Just a note to people if your going to be naked... Remember that there could be kids around. One time my 14 yr old was in the room...and YOWSA...this man was in full blown stroke mode...and thats all she and I seen.

When kids are home now IM Is turned off...when not home I have it on...but if your willy is hanging out...I will delete you and report you. Let me decide if want to see it but first you might have to ship me a magnifying glass so I can atleast see it.

I am a good sport about a lot of things.. and will take the good with the bad.

I'll be honest I've thought about turning my IM off for two main reasons. One I enjoy the messaging better. It's a good way to get to know one another, at your own pace and there's no awkward forced conversation. Second, mainy times when I get an IM its a guy and all he wants to do is talk about meeting up for sex. Three, I always get the question do you have msn...

That being said, I still leave the IM option on. At least for now. I've had some good conversation on it, but most of my friendships and dates that have developed have come from messaging first.

I think it's rude to IM someone you don't know if you don't get their permission. So emailing someone and getting to know them and then talking on IM is considered ok. On IRC I get plenty of people try to private chat with me when I never spoke to them before. It is out right annoying and rude. Also what happens if 10 people IM you? Can you keep up? And those awful ads with spyware and crap. You're better off using msn or yahoo for private chat.

personally, i don't like IMing

if i get to know someone through mail and there's mutual interest then i might IM or maybe chat on skype or somesuch, but i don't have the blocks of time or inclination to sit and "chat" to someone i don't know and maybe wouldn't want to know

At work, I have no access to msn but I can get on here. I have a LOT of friends on here that are also on my msn. If I want to strike up a chat, I can do so here. That is the only reason why I keep it on. But as some other posters mentioned, it can get annoying when someone you don't know messages you to talk about sex or to ask for your yahoo or msn, or to beg/plead to meet.
Hell, I just had a convo with a guy I never spoke to before who ended up saying he loves me before we closed off the chat. I already told him three times in the chat I was not going to give him my number, my msn or yahoo, and I had no interest in meeting him. ugh

for all the above reasons and the fact that I have a very old computer with limited memory and it slows my comp down too much. It also boggles my mind when a guy sends me an introductory email and immediately asks for my msn or yahoo ... sorry, I only give that out to people I feel comfortable chatting with. Heck, by that time they usually have my phone number :)

I had my IM turned on for a long time but got tired of the faceless male trolls fishing on here for sex only or cyber sex, so turned it off.....if you are interested , send them an email. I respond to the emails I get and if I want to chat with someone , I turn it back on and ignore the trolls.
