All the people picking Ovechkin forget he has two years of pro hockey on Crosby.
I'll take Crosby any day.

| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 12/31/2006 4:22:17 PM | | It's a tough choice. Both are extremely gifted players. I'd have to go with Ovechkin though, simply because of the fact that he is so laid back about his passion for the game. He plays with emotion, but overall, he enjoys the game, and smiles a lot. Crosby loves the game, and is passionate, but his passion for it, manifests itself in the form of outbursts, complaining to the refs, and taking stupid penalties for retaliating. Ovechkin's got a better grip on his temper, so I'd go with him. | |

| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 1/3/2007 7:45:04 AM | | I think Crosby will have more success in the league in terms of stats and hardware, but Ovechkin is just so damn dynamic. Both on the ice and off. He's a hockey player that actually has a personality, and that's a rarity. It's so refreshing to watch an Ovechkin interview because it's not filled with your standard hockey cliches that seem to be in every other player's repertoire. Also, I think Ovechkin would make a better captain than Crosby some day (they'll both be captaining the Caps and Pens eventually), judging by their personalties. Crosby seems more reserved than the outspoken Ovechkin. | |

And other greats that were always finishing 1-2 in scoring. I know, it's only 2 seasons but you see so much alent in the 2 players it's hard not to think of 1-2 punches in the NHL.

| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 1/8/2007 4:36:51 PM | Crosby! Have you seen the kid skate?? Hell he's amazing! He'll be awesome for a while too! Just look were he is in points...
1. Crosby - 64 points 2. Marian Hossa - 58 points 3. Ovechkan - 56 points 4. Martin St. Louis - 54 points 5. Vincent Lecavalier - 54 points
Goals..
1. Marian Hossa - 26 goals 2. Alexander Ovechkin - 26 goals 3. Martin St. Louis - 26 goals 4. Dany Heatly - 25 goals
18. Sidney Crosby - 20 goals
Assists..
1. Sidney Crosby - 44 assists 2. Joe Thornton - 42 assists 3. Jaromir Jagr - 38 assists 4. Marc Savard - 38 assits 5. Henrik Sedin - 37 assists
14. Alexander Ovechkan - 30 assits
In my opinon what makes a great player is by assist! you Cannot exactly score when you dont have a play maker!

| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 10/14/2007 9:57:07 AM | | It's a tough call, look at the talent Crosby has around him vs Ovechkin. I still take Sid as he sells tickets, and is a complete player. | |

| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/2/2007 8:59:25 PM | Malkin. He's in Crosby's shadow, and a bit underrated. This year, he has played better than Crosby or Ovechkin. People forget that he was ranked higher than Ovy by alot of teams before the draft.
I'd rate it like this: (potential) Crosby: 40G, 110A New Gretzky, sees the ice better than anyone since Gretz, can carry a franchise Malkin: 55G, 80A New Lemieux, can see ice to lesser extent, but can dominate a play especially once he fills out, can carry a team Ovechkin: 60+G, 60A New Jagr, sniper that can hit, carry a game, but will never carry a team. They will always look for "his center" to get him to his potential.
It's just awesome to be able to watch any of them. I've been watching hockey for 20 years and this is just...man...hockey rules.
|
| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/3/2007 6:41:16 PM | | For me, I like Alexander the great better. I'd even take Zetterburg over Crosby, but that is just me. | |
|
| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/5/2007 5:07:58 PM | I like seeing these threads well after the fact. Anyone who honestly takes ANY player in the league over Crosby needs their "hockey head" examined. He'll win the scoring championship again... and next year he'll sling an Olympic Gold medal around his neck and lead the Penguins solidly into the playoffs... only a few years away from Stanley Cups. | |
|
| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/5/2007 5:42:00 PM | This supporting cast some of you speak of – who might that be? Malkin? Hmmm....I guess Sid's 102 points two years ago was done with smoke and mirrors. Staal? Please. Staal is good, but would he have gotten 42 points without Crosby? Nope. Same with Ryan Whitney...Erik Christensen, etc. Crosby makes the players around him better. That's what reminds me the most of Gretzky when I watch him play - how much better he makes everyone else on his team. Messier, Anderson, Lowe, Coffey...they all said it - they would have never turned into the players they were if they didn't "grow up in the NHL with Wayne". It's the same with Sidney Crosby's teammates. He, quite simply, MAKES the supporting cast. Need more proof? Here's a name for you - Marc-Antoine Pouliot. 70 games with Crosby in Rimouski in 04/05...114 points. 55 NHL games without Crosby...11 points. Crosby could turn a wheat field into a 50-point winger Ovechkin? Magic to be sure....but have others improved because of him? Not so much. If I'm building an NHL franchise around one player, it's Sid the Kid.
That said, I don't see Pittsburgh ever threatening in the post-season as long as they have Marc André Fleury as their #1 goalie.
|
| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/6/2007 8:19:24 PM | I still think that Fleury will eventually become an elite goaltender. With the Pens, I don't know Shero's patience, but I hope it's strong. Goalies develop (in most cases) very slowly. Fleury's 23 ( I think), and was thrown to the wolves much too early. The Pens defense is still horrid, and it's reflecting on him.
Look at Brodeur, now that Sutter's swaying from the trap, and his defense is mostly gone, look at his numbers. How else could you justify Chicago having Belfour as #1, and Hasek as a backup, then trading him for nothing? Cujo was the same way. You could put Patrick Roy or Jacques Plante in net for the Pens, and both of them would tank. In my opinion, we need better defense first, then a solid, proven veteran (Dallas trade?) to mentor and share duties with Fleury. Don't make him the starter yet.
|
| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/7/2007 3:49:27 AM | | For Fleury's sake I hope you're right. I just don't see it. He has flopped at every level in his career. Never won a damn thing. But it does take time to develop as a goalie, for sure. | |

How hard do you think it was growing up from the age of 12 as "the next phenom?" AO was an unknown until just before the draft. Sid has been on everyones radar for years and still lived up to the hype!

| Crosby or Ovechkan? Posted: 11/22/2007 3:04:10 PM | ovechkin is the better shooter, and has an edge to his game, and plays with much less talnted players.
crosby is the better playmaker, is canada's golden boy, and plays in an actual hockey market.. well somewhat.
id take ovechkin, because he doesnt whine and cry, and complain when someone is within 2 feet of him... its kinda sickning to watch.. i like eric staal's game more than crosby's, and i would take lecavalier over sid as well.

You could have had Tuuka Rask. I remember when they made the trade, telling a Leaf fan friend of mine that they traded the wrong kid goalie. Rask was the best goalie at the World Juniors a few years ago.

^^^The leafs dont need Rask. They have Pogge. Pogge was the best goalie at the World Juniors when he played that year.
Toronto 13th best franchise...Well its not number one...but ahead of many other Canadian and American teams. I cannot remember exactly how many NHL teams there are now...think its in the 30 range. I guess all the Flames, Oilers and Canucks fans should bail on their teams coz they scored even worse than the Leafs eh...Puuhleeassse.

Pogge was the best goalie at the World Juniors when he played that year. Soory pucks. Not according to the hardware handed out at the end of the tourney:
Rask and Pogge have faced each other just once, during a Finland-Canada game at the 2006 world junior championship in Vancouver. Pogge's Canadians ended up winning the gold medal while Rask was voted top goalie in the tournament. Pogge plugging away http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Toronto/2007/11/21/4673515-sun.html
As for 13th best franchise, who cares. The Hockey News two years ago picked the Oilers and the Hurricanes to miss the playoffs. Umm, i think they missed that one by quite a wide margin. Second of all agent 86's article he posted yesterday is posted Dec 4th, which based on my calendar seems to either be outdated or some type of crystal ball projection. My calendar tells me its the 23rd of november So again, he's posted another article applicable for the planet Orion operating a similar galaxy light years from here. Maybe we should post an article about all those great red Wings teams that took up space at the bottom of the standings thru the 70's and 80's as well.
1967-83: The "Dead Wings" Era
By the late 1960s, the Wings started to flounder, and entered a funk that they would not emerge from for almost 20 years. Between 1967 and 1983, Detroit only made the playoffs twice, winning one series. From 1970 to 1983, the Wings had 16 head coaches (not counting interim coaches), none lasting more than three seasons. Their first seven coaches--Art Duncan, Adams, Ivan, Jimmy Skinner and Abel--covered a 41-year period. During this era, the team was derisively known as the "Dead Wings" or "Dead Things."
Say ten hail mary's for Mike ilitch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Red_Wings
OT: Crosby or Ovechkin...hmmm..tough call...I think Sid the Kid

Well my Blue with envy Leaf friend sorry but Rask won the award for top goalie at the 2006 World Junior Championship. Pogge was great but not as great as Rask who walked away with the award. Another one of Fergies screw ups!
