Shaps LOL -- sucker
Will you shadup -- I sent ya a card. So now you know your getting at least one present. By the way it's the same thing I gavce ya last year, so don't expect much.

As for me, this christmas should be a great one as the wife and my family will be all together for it.
As long as my dad doesn't talk about policing and her talk about the steel factory, I should be able to stay in the joyious spirit

I was into the Christmas spirit a week into November, tree was up and shopping started. I finished all my last minute shopping and wrapping this past week. i have already attended 2 family dinners and a work christmas party. I want it over!! This weekend I have a party to attend on friday night, totally not looking forward to it. Saturday Im having my small get together (which im stressing cause my guest list isnt confirmed) sunday is christmas eve and I know my son will be excited all day and then on christmas day I have to get up with kids, open gifts, go to newmarket for brunch and open presents at the inlaws and then get back to ajax for christmas day dinner and gift exchange! (my younger sister is pissed cause she has to wait till me and the kids get there before they open gifts and that wont be till after 2pm)

I know Im complaining and some people have no one to share christmas with, but Im exhausted thinking about it, and none of the plans that I had in mind are going my way! Did I mention that I have to get to the west end of toronto for Boxing day? I totally dread it, driving to the Allen passing yorkdale on boxing day? not my favourite thing to do.

I honestly thought about having the kids open all their gifts on christmas eve so that christmas day wouldnt be so over whelming for them, but really, why should I have to accomodate everyone else's plans.....in a perfect world everything would have been held at my house on Christmas day, but unfortunatly the grandparents on both sides dont get along and my mother hates my partner....

I just keep telling myself "just one more week Kell!".....I dont think I also mentioned that I am the ONLY one with small kids in this family...5 and 2 yet I have to do all the travelling and I dont even own a car which means I need to shell out the money to rent one!

Ok, well thanks for reading (if you did)...I really really REALLY needed to vent!

Merry Christmas!

^^^^i miss the stress of all of what you described above ;)
in the end you get to spend time with all of them, some, like you said, don't get to.
i do have the xmas spirit (as i always do) just not as many to share it with as i once had.
but the bright side: new "family" comes along and ends up saving the day so i am looking forward to certain days over the break.
for any scrooges - 2007 will be here soon enough.

Hmmm....I totally get the SPIRIT of CHRISTMAS, I understand it, I like it, I appreciate it...I JUST DON'T HAVE IT!!! No sense in trying to explain to us what Christmas is all about, I believe we are all very well aware of it...no sense in trying to change our minds or our feelings either.

Everyone needs to get through their moodiness in their own way and time -

Mine was last night - I did it - I went to THREE different malls - shopped - fought my way through the crowds and ENJOYED it haha!! I even put up decorations although - my tree is lost - empty box, how weird is that?? Anyway...I'm almost there and I have a few more days to get the joy of it all!!

Mirages was when she was told she was going to Winterpeg in January....

I know what you all are talking about, I am not into the spirit myself, for a few reasons. I have never been one to just think of myself. I have two special friends here on the site, who are dealing with losing a parent last Christmas, and my heart goes out to them, as my mom is my best friend and can't imagine losing her, not at Christmas time anyways. to you two. This is the first Christmas without them, and their parents that they lost, were their best friend as well.

One thing I'm grateful is, my two teenage boys, know the meaning of Christmas and its not how many presents they are getting, but being able to be together and the yummy turkey dinner on the table.

I will share a lil story with you all, when my boys were small they came to me and said Mom are we bad kids, and I said no, why do you say that, they said well other kids got all these presents and we did'nt. They still believed in Santa..so I had to come up with something, and said boys I have to tell u a secret, all the parents have to pay Santa for the presents for their kids and he just delievers them, then they said "Oh" now we know, its cuz you don't have a lot of money to pay Santa for presents. Those two kids of mine got the biggest kiss and hugs from me, as they totally understood, its not how many presents are there,it what you could afford. Now they are 15 and 19 and they are still so understanding, as some years are better than others. They have asked for nothing as they never do, they accept what they get and just want to know whats for dinner. Don't forget the pumpkin pie, one said.

To some people, xmas just one big money day, that isnt the case in my house. Some of us still know the true meaning of Christmas.

and to all of you who are down regarding the holidays, I pray at least next year is better for you.

I think you are all looking for the Christmas Spirit in the wrong place.

Chrismas is about giving to others and treating others with love and kindness and being grateful for all that we have been blessed with....no matter what there are so many people far worse off, and loosing someone though sad, we were still blessed with the time we had with them and we should take this time to remember all the happiness and know they would not want us moping around

Stop being so self absorbing and start doing ...Christmas is what you get in heart, when you share with someone else, even a total stranger.

for me this year has been a rough one... 21 months in a cast and not be able to drive my car, talk about frustrating, money is tight, and I'm not even sure if I will see my family for Christmas...but I still have one good leg, and two canes that get me to where I need to go and theres a telephone to share a friendly voice!

I have met wonderful friends through this site. There have been wonderful strangers who take the time to be thoughtful and open the door or help me with a parcel. It is so wonderful to say thank you and know that they didn't just do it for me they did it for them!

I hope you all look in your heart and realise that is where you find Christmas, not in self pity.

May you all find the Christmas Spirit and have a wonderful holiday...

To me, that is what Thanksgiving is about.

Xmas is supposed to be about celebrating the birth of X but since not everybody believes in X or his father, it would be pretty hypocritical to have the xmas spirit

whykatts,

I think the reason why I feel the way I do this year is because the true meaning of the holiday's has been lost on me. I guess when I do get a chance to spend time with my loved ones I will feel that fuzziness inside. At the moment I don't feel it though. I do like your reasoning for what it's all about.

For me...it's the first Christmas morning without seeing my kids' faces. My first Christmas Eve without our family traditions. My first Christmas without my parents (I flew out there on Boxing Day last year and pretended it was Christmas day LOL). It's the first year I haven't been invited for Christmas dinner by anyone.....ever.

BUT I'm starting to get excited! I've bought a few special people a couple of fun things and I can't wait to see the faces on them and especially on my kids when we get to start our new "every other Christmas" traditions.

Yes, that is what that particular mythology is about. However, not all of us subscribe to that particular belief system. Even those that claim to follow it don't seem to do such a good job at "Love thy neighbour" most of the time.

One cannot love another, platonically, familially, or romantically, without loving one's self first. Happiness cannot be sucked out of other people by forcing yourself to do "good works". Pure drivel.

Love is not a Christian concept. I love my family and friends all year long and don't need the excuse of a holiday to remind me or to express it.

And btw, on the subject of snow and the whole "winter wonderland" thing, I couldn't be happier that there's no snow on the ground

I haven't really felt too christmassy this year. I'm not against it, just not really all into it. I think just now though, I felt a little bit of christmas cheer and wanted to let you all know that didn't hear yet, that the judge that took down the christmas tree in the court house, lost her battle, the tree is back up, and they haven't figured out what they're going to do with her, if they'll disciplne her at all, but the fact is, the Christmas tree won this battle! Now for HO HO HO in the shopping malls and Merry Christmas sayings all over!

That made me happy, and a little more christmassy feeling.
