Posted: 12/24/2006 1:49:15 PM | I agree with Jeep. CHRISTmas is supposed to celebrate the birth of Christ. The only (ok, not the only) problem is that according to historical astronomical data, Christ would have been born in the summer (northern hemisphere) Early Christians just found it easier to co-opt existing Pagan celebrations (infiltrate, subvert, overtake), the most notable being the Winter Solstice and Yule.
You know what christmas means to you.
I know what it means to me.
I won't try to convert you if you don't try to convert me.
 
*edit* actually, my point (twisted as it may seem) is that chrismas means different things to different people, so therefore, christmas spirit also means different things to different people. I have my normal christmas spirit (bah, humbug lol) It's not always happy, it's not always sad. It just is what it is. | |

But what you have never known was it has nothing to do with his birth at all.
It is why christ was born for as to why it is called christmas .
It has nothing to do with ANY ONES ETHNIC BELIEF'S AT ALL!
And I do mean you'll see it has nothing to do as to if you are christian or hindo or asian or russian or jamaican or portarican or what ever.
I bet all the kids who any of you have can tell you what it means better then most adults could!! Care to ask your kids ??
Or better yet go read the bible about the birth and read slow & carefully and maybe and I mean just maybe some of you will figure it out!
And if your wondering you can find it also in alot of peoples profiles on POF .
Hmmmmmm got yeah wondering now I bet !!

You may be right, but it does have to do with ones RELIGIOUS beliefs, as anyone who is from another religion or who claims to be non-religious would agree.

A story book compiled 300 years after the supposed birth of christ which is also chock full of contradictions as well as many other things that are not only frowned upon but also illegal in most cultures. Which is something one would find if they read it slowly and carefully.

Being together, loving each other, simply "being". It took a great deal of work for us all to get things together, but we are all here now. House is quiet and I know that I am loved for who I am. No more humbug as tis time to relax and enjoy what I think God gave me. And for others, whatever or whoever gave them the same thing. Peace and joy for all! | |

The Bible was written by a couple fo guys in 300AD give or take, and yes they left out quite a bit and they decided what it should contain...But who cares. There isnt one "bible/holy book" that was written by anything other than Man.... Unless someone can find a book actually written by a "God"..
Worship what you like, wanna worship trees or the Sun or Rocks, be my guest... Its all the same to me...
All I can say is maybe we sould take a lesson from The British and Germans fighting in WW1 and put down our arms for one day, look at each other, talk to each other and maybe just maybe we will see that we are not so different (if only they had come to that conclusion millions wouldn't have died)
Use 12/25 to be kind to another, to show your love for another to just be nice to each other.... Who cares what the day was chosen for, just use it as an oppotunity to be nice!
