| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 12/25/2007 10:15:49 PM | called my mom and told her I am not going out today at all, so she said it is fine with her. Made myself a pot of clam chowder. Started reading the book " A year without Made in China.", just about half done. Kids called and friends called to wish me a Merry Christmas.....didn't really feel like talking except to my kids. Tomorrow is another day that I won't be so lucky that I get to relax and do my own things; there is a Pot Luck party I need to prepare foods for.....but that also save the pain to jam into the mall for Boxing Day deals, I suppose. | |

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 12/27/2007 2:45:03 PM | We just went away. I spent most of Christmas soaking in a jacuzzi, sleeping and later we ordered room service.
We bought a mini Christmas tree and decorated it with Chocolate ornaments. Brought all the presents and a ton of food with us.

| Just helpful hints... Posted: 10/6/2008 11:15:02 AM | a couple years back I voulenteered time serving and dishing up meals at the local salvation army... You can also go to the local food-bank and help them out... deliver turky dinners to shut-inns... Working with children as a santa clause... Dress as santa and collect money for the salvation army... Go to a nice restaurant and enjoy a nice meal,..never know who you may meet unexpectedly ,...as there are others out there who are lonely also, and probabaly worse off than yourself !!!! ... Worst come to the worst.. Buy some stale bread or buns.. go to the local park and feed the pigeons..the`re always hungry !!!... and it`ll give you a lift !!!... You must stop and think of all those people out there that are a LOT worse off than YOU !!!!..... | |

We could do something like that, we'll have to talk about it. Will you be in town over the holidays SM?? if so, and you've got nothing happening, we need to get together and see if we can maybe pull something small off?

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/19/2008 7:08:23 PM | past years I made christmas dinner for those who couldn't make it for themselves. people who had to work, who couldn't cook, or who just couldn't be bothered to make it for just themselves. This year in memory of my late brother I am going to volunteer to feed the homeless. I may put in two weeks with a soup kitchen or food bank. | |

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/20/2008 3:05:04 PM | | I'm lucky enough to have family in town that I can spend Christmas with. However a lot of my friends are from other provinces or countries and can't afford or don't want to travel home to see their families during the holidays. Every year some of us get together for what we call an Orphan's Christmas on Boxing Day. That way everyone can celebrate the holidays. It's a great idea for people who are too far from family for travel during the holidays. | |

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/20/2008 3:49:19 PM | NL,
I will be here, as I have to work over the Christmas holidays. Not sure when I work yet, as the schedule is not out. But we could definately have a get together to spread some holiday cheer.

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/20/2008 7:27:30 PM | Ha, that's easy for me I'm going four wheeling or something, or maybe drive up the Athabasca. Something active, ANYTHING other than sitting around moping my ass off. | |

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/25/2008 8:13:09 PM | WoW..I started this post in 2006 as that was my 4th x-mas all alone. the same thing for 2007. and now we are running head first into X-Mas 2008. looks like it will be the same old thing again. X-mas alone, wont feel like cooking so end up making some Kd. I starting to think that Red Deer is not the best town to be in if your looking to find your life mate......ok, look, I dont sit around moping all day, but I do tend to think back to when I loved x-mas and had a great day....look guys, lets get a coffee day going, and if not, im going to go look at "equip girl's " profile, might ge her to go for coffee..... | |
|
| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 12:56:25 PM | | well this x-mas will be my first one alone without my kids, my ex and her b/f are spending it at his place, my family is all out of town, the only reason she is holding the kids away from me is becouse i cant make the child support payment for dec, im handicapped, in an assisted living home, and cannot work, i told her that if i had the money i would give it to her, but by the time i pay for rent/utilities and some minor presents i have nothing left, so overall i will be a little depressed, but hopefully i will be able to talk to them. | |

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 1:12:48 PM | By my family's standards, Xmas will be alone. It's the wife and kids and I, but no rampat house-hopping with 20-30 other family members at various locations going on. So to make it a bit more chipper, we're inviting friends from back east who now reside here as well as some others who are from the same general area (couple hours drive) and are by themselves as well. If we cannot have our blood family around, we will still have a good whoop-up. But back when I was single and alone, I simply started asking around, found out who else was solo for the season and would make a batch of bailys, get some waxed cardboard boxes and some firewood, go out sliding on the boxes while drinking the bailys heated over a coleman stove with some chocolate milk mixed in (very good) and then back to whoever had the biggest tv's place to watch a few movie and such. I spent one year completely by myself and I think it was the most miserable day I ever had. Vowed never to do that again. | |

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 1:13:36 PM | That is her being a****frank.
No woman should have the ****ing right to keep you from seeing your kids. Let alone on christmas. Not everyone can afford alot and that is not cool what she is doing.
|
| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 1:17:13 PM | I'm a huge fan of Christmas and have spent a few Christmas's away from my family for one reason or another (usually I was travelling a lot for work).
I think Christmas is really what you make of it. If you're alone because you can't afford to get to your family's or friend's places then it's time to pick up the phone and chat with your loved ones on that day.
The year I was all by myself I watched every Christmas movie there was...everything from the Grinch Who Stole Christmas to White Christmas to A Christmas Carole and even National Lampoon's Family Christmas. It wasn't too bad...I just missed having turkey dinner with lots of people...but the movies were a good distraction.

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 7:56:55 PM | | who knows, ever since we split 6 years ago, seems like she had a chip on her shoulder, the last time i seen my kids was sept 2008, now this might be a little off topic but since i havnt seen my kids (her choice not mine) in over 2 months, do i still have to pay child support? anyways no one should be alone at any holiday or b/day, i forget who said it but for all of us loners out there, we should arrange something on xmas eve for dinner, just a thought, but i am glad i will be stocking up on rental movies, since i have nothing else to do | |
|
| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 8:00:37 PM | Re: Child support. If it is court ordered, or you're thru maintenance, then yes, you do still have to pay it, regardless of whether you've seen the kids or not. Pretty shitty of her to keep the kids from you though, I'd be consulting a lawyer personally.
I'm still open to having a few people over for dinner (in Calgary) over the holidays, don't much matter what day as I'm off from the 24th to the 5th, could do a potluck or something maybe? Already have a few friends on the list, few more wont hurt. First Christmas without any kind of family around really, except for kiddo, so I'm feeling a bit orphaned myself!

| Alone on Christmas? Posted: 11/26/2008 8:15:44 PM | working nights....new job....low person on the seniority....but, have generally not been into all the xmas hoopla....prefer volunteering, running around dropping off gifts & food to other people.....family isnt always the best sometimes....friends tend to become the family we choose.... | |

friends tend to become the family we choose....
Ain't that the truth!!
I know I have friends who I feel closer to then I do members of my own family!!
Kinda sad, but it is what it is.
