If they play the way they did, points just fall into the offensive team's lap.
The high pressure, blitzing style they use might be a problem if Manning had better receivers. Great quarterbacks like him shred blitzing defenses like that many times. Quarterbacks like Manning, Brady, Montana, Young and Unitas loved to be blitzed. Any time you took a guy out of coverage with them, you were asking for big trouble...They're read it right off and take advantage of it; just like Brady almost did when Caldwell was wide open yesterday...
I think ANY of those guys I mentioned would rather be blitzed than face a three man rush (or even a TWO man rush, as the Rams did with the Niners in the eighties and made things very frustrating) with a zone defense...
...but even great quarterbacks need great receivers and I don't think there are any receivers like those guys had in the game today. At least, I don't think Manning has them. | |

Have to disagree. Marvin Harrison is a Hall of Famer and Reggie Wayne made the Pro Bowl this year. Dallas Clark is very underrated as a tight end. Indy's line will do a great job protecting Manning. Every year he's near the top in terms of how few times he's been sacked.
Chicago's D is a bit overrated. They can be run on. And if you don't turn the ball over like NO did, Chicago can be had. IF that Bear's offense has to make long drives because the D isn't giving them a short field, they are in trouble. If Indy gets ahead early, the Bears are done b/c Grossman is not going to pass them back into the game.....he will make too many mistakes for Chicago to play catch-up.
Not a Colts or Bears fan. I'm a Dolphins fan. Miami is one of the few teams to have played both these teams this year. Lost to Indy 27-22 in Indy and beat Chicago 31-13 in Chicago.
What it comes down to for me is this:......Chicago has less margin for error. If Grossman is ineffective(which has been about a 50-50 proposition this year), then the Bears HAVE to count on that D to force turnovers...or even score to win. Just can't pick somebody to win that has to count on defensive and special teams TD's to win. | |
